It literally doesn't matter, because they will be at vastly different temperatures anyway. Temperature of the bolt plateaus while the carrier and chamber side of the barrel will continue to climb in a DI gun, in a piston gun the bolt and carrier barely get any heat.

@@alexc.6502 No, one piece gas rings cannot be tested the same way a traditional gas ring is tested. I dont think you understand what a one piece gas ring is.

@@357stoitch7 I use one-piece gas rings on a rifle of my own. And I can tell you with confidence that if they're worn, they will not hold themselves in the upper receiver. they will slide right out the back if upended. I've tested this multiple times, each time I've found my rifle over gassed. Switched out the gas rings. Now, it feels just as new as when I first built it.

@@atox4957 upper-to-lower fitment, or upper-to-barrel fitment was loose? Or both? You needing to drill THEIR upper and THEIR hand guard for the indexing pin is absolutely BS. I notice on their site the upper no longer is shown with the indexing pin. As to the fitment (honestly, not trying to simp for Ripcord, I have nothing at stake) there could be tolerance differences between parts, I’m sure you probably already understand that much though. I’m most curious if you contacted them with your concerns and if so, what they had to say about it?

@@goinhot9133 it's a thing people do on KZfaq where they buy a more expensive microphone and record sounds and sometimes accompanying video, that supposedly super satisfying and make them feel very calm in that way that makes the hair stand up on the back of their neck. Some channels are really big and get a lot of views, people make a good bit of money doing it too. But It's a good joke because it's not really an ASMR channel, but it's very satisfying to watch the school of the American rifle guy work his way through his tests and failsafes.

1 month late, I know. It's because he was a radio operator and Fed LE, not a marksman. Don has gained recognition by his demonstrated ability to shoot rifles and pistols fast in close quarters. That skill set doesn't generally require understanding the relationship between accuracy and barrel temp.

Products are evolutionary. If you’re a good engineer/inventor you will look at current products and note their downfalls and build off of that. Example: steel vs aluminum barrel nut. That’s an improvement in itself if you understand basic heat transfer. Ripcord specifically holds incredibly tight consistent tolerances. You pay for experience, quality, consistency and material selection, which to me means more than having a new snake oil handguard for you IG account. 🚀🌙

Why won’t your gun run as well as the rifle he specs to a builder the same way every other manufacturer does? If you assemble a rifle correctly from reputable parts I don’t see how your rifle is any less quality or reliable than the rifle he specs out.

except, what does "run really well" mean. Don't get me wrong, I love well built AR's, but what benefits do you actually get outside of aesthetics. Accuracy? Reliability? I've run 3k factory guns as well as 1k hand built guns ragged past thousands of rounds. Nether have had any reliability or accuracy issues, and feel fantastic to shoot. The only difference is my hand built gun has some really stupid things on it from time to time as a swap stuff out for fun.

I think another thing that comes into play is that every manufacturer may have slightly different priorities/goals in mind with their builds. For example, this guy seemed more concerned about strength/stability/rigidity with his handguard and the interface between barrel and upper receiver being more beefed up, whereas a lot of other high quality manufacturers would cringe at that because they’re all about shedding weight. Either one could be making really good guns but they may have different opinions on what makes the ultimate, most desirable setup. I think you can get even more into this when you look at gas systems. Some manufacturers are gassing their guns as low as possible to make the system run smoother with minimum recoil while other manufacturers gas their guns really high to improve gun reliability and help prevent malfunctions. And you see people that swear by either of those opinions and say that they prefer one over the other. Now take that into factor when you’re building your own gun and mix/matching parts from all these different (but still high quality) manufacturers who all have slightly differing opinions on how a gun should run and you end up with different parts designed from differing views/opinions (but still high quality) that might not quite run as well as a from the ground up build. I’m sure it’ll still feel like butter compared to a $600 smith and Wesson M&P 15 but perhaps not quite up the same level as a gun that had all its parts designed/built from ground up

@@PW-dw7vf sure, but idk if some of the stuff they are doing makes a big difference. Everything you mentioned can be solved with an adjustable gas block and more parts. I personally would love to see someone test some of this stuff manufacturers are doing🤷‍♂️

If DD is a place you want to spend your money, that's on you. BCM, gas blocks have pretty good QC. Mine was a tight fit to my Ballistic Advantage barrel.
