This is a review of the Milwaukee M18 Compact Handheld Vacuum model 0882-20. It's a versatile shop vacuum for small to medium sized cleanups and has decent suction (40 CFM). I use it to clean around the house, the workshop, and job site, as well as to vacuum the cars and detail my tools after every job. Run time versus charge time is very good when compared to most consumer brands, which take nearly 3 hours to charge or don't have swappable batteries. The Milwaukee's suction decreases with battery power; however, it can be used to collect drywall dust, concrete dust, and sawdust unlike many vacuums intended for household use (i.e., Dyson, Shark, LG, Samsung, Tineco).
I purchased this vacuum at my local Home Depot about a year and a half ago and haven't had any issues. The switch has been an issue for some folks; however, on the rare occasion mine has been finicky, a battery pull or 5 second rest has resolved it. Luckily the tool comes with a 5 year warranty.
***UPDATE: AFTER TWO YEARS OF HEAVY USE THE VACUUM SUCCUMBED TO THE DREADED SWITCH ISSUE SO I SENT IT BACK TO MILWAUKEE. SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER THE 5 YEAR TOOL WARRANTY THEY SENT ME A NEW ONE. SEE MY VIDEO UPDATE HERE: • Milwaukee M18 Vacuum 0...
HEPA Dry Replacement filters are model 49-90-1951. I've also seen them labeled 29-90-0160.
Filters are best purchased at Amazon. Just check the product description to ensure they're compatible with Milwaukee Vacuum model 0882-20

Damn, I wish the filters were washable! I usually rinse my rigid shop vac filters out (and then dry them with a fan afterwards) - it always keeps them super clean which is the name of the game for good suction

I found the same vacuum cleaner with a blocked turbine in the trash. I had to drill two holes in the rotor at the entrance of the turbine and use needle-nose pliers to start the rotor with a relatively large force. Before that, I disconnected the cables from the motor and tried the electronics with a 36V/400W lamp, which works flawlessly. . The engine is running, but the bearing near the turbine has a large gap. Since the whole (engine and turbine) is pressed together, it is impossible to change the electric motor, that's why I decided to install one bearing at the entrance of the turbine. There will be a little more resistance at the intake, but that is not very important to me. In addition, the owner also trashed a working Milwaukee M18 battery with a label saying it was weak? The battery is not weak, but the electronics in the vacuum cleaner reacted to protect the electric motor and battery from excessive amperage. Greetings from Switzerland

@@BruceAlanR Just to add what is the most likely cause of the failure. The vacuum cleaner (turbine air outlet) was full of fine white abrasive dust as if the user was working without a filter! Logo, concrete and stone dust damaged the main bearing which blocked it. Besides. the vacuum was used intensively, professionally, so that the transparent part (probably PC polycarbonate) became matt as if it had been sandblasted. P.S. P.S. The USA was more beautiful when Trump was President...

would you use this for vacuuming the floors and hardwood in the house? Does it keep clean enough for rugs? We are looking at sharks, and Dysons for the house but I am in the Milwaukee world for batteries so I like the idea of swapping batteries vs having to have another eco system of batteries like Dyson or sharks. I also like the idea of using it for the shop or cars.

The Milwaukee is good on hardwood floors. I just wish the head was a little wider. With rugs it’s hit and miss depending on the rug pile. The upside to a Dyson is the weight (my wife says the Milwaukee is too heavy) as well as some the Dyson floor (rotary) attachments. The Dyson batteries stink though and tend to only last a few years (and they’re expensive). I recently saw an attachment for the Dyson handhelds on Amazon that allow for attaching a Milwaukee M18 battery. The adaptor looks rather awkward, but I’ve considered trying it given all our Dysons are beyond the warranty period.

@sarahkeeton8599 Ай бұрын
Did you know about the adapter you can buy online to install on your dyson to be able to use power tool batteries? They have one to use with milwaukee/Dewalt batteries and another for other brand batteries. Makes the Dyson worth having!

Any chance you’ve used the Milwaukee M12 Hand Vacuum? I was wondering how it ranked up to the M18. It looks to be smaller in size and I’m just looking for something to keep under the seat in my dump truck to keep the dirt cleaned out of an evening. Thanks!

Unfortunately, haven’t tried the M12 handheld (reminds me of the old Dustbuster vacs). From what I’ve read it’s loud and suction isn’t great. I’d say it also needs a hose for better maneuverability in a vehicle. If you try it out please post back. Would love to hear what you think. I have used the M12 FUEL wet dry lunchbox which is stows easily. The lunchbox does fine with dry debris, but shines when draining toilet tanks. Ha!

I'm on my 3rd vacuum it would always turn off so the sent a new one. On the invoice it just says motor is worn and nothing was wrong with the switch.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that. I’m really surprised to hear the motor wore out although if it was the motor, it was likely something as simple as the brushes wearing out (the vac doesn’t have a brushless motor). I had to send my vac back to Milwaukee because I started having the “switch issue,” which is not actually the switch, but a faulty sensor. They didn’t bother to fix it and just sent me a new one, which I’m beating the heck out of before it’s out of warranty. 😁

This unit is the worst tool I've ever bought. As one reviewer put it, pun intended, "this vacuum doesn't suck......at all." From day one it barely could suck the dust and tiny bits on a car seat. Worse performance with the dirt on a car mat. Dust from drilling 4 holes in plaster? Over a minute sucking to the point I had to collect the dust with a brush and push it to the nozzle. I've checked everything, and there are no blockages or obvious reasons for the poor suction other than it's not capable. I don't know what 40CFM is supposed to be like, but If this puts out 40CFM, then that's not enough to suck a tiny leaf or sawdust. In my three decades of buying and working with tools, I've never wanted to smash one against a wall like I do with this.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m a bit surprised yours doesn’t have much suction. It sounds like something is up with the vac. I recently started having the switch issue (sensor issue) where the vac would turn on and off after 30-40 seconds. Since it’s still under warranty I used Milwaukee’s eService to file a claim and mailed the vac back to them after which they sent me a brand new one. The new one works even better than the first one.
