Milwaukee M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC6.0 Battery Pack - acmetools.pxf....
--------------------------------------------------
Milwaukee claims that the M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC6.0 Battery Pack delivers HIGH OUTPUT 12.0Ah power in a smaller size. This test seems to show it delivers more than the 12Ah battery does! With the correct charger, the FORGE 6.0Ah can 15-minute supercharge up to 80%. Milwaukee claims this battery to be the most powerful, fastest charging, and longest-life battery in the lineup.

Great testing. The HD12 starting voltage is fairly normal, they just dont like to charge like other M18 batteries do. Often to their eventual determent. Just another benefit of the FORGE, you dont have to buy an HD12.0 which we're on our 3rd (for high demand tools, not runtime focused tools).

I don’t know. I recently heard the Forge has the same output as a 12.0 but a lot less runtime than the 12.0, which is very deceiving. So if this is correct and you need runtime, the 12.0 is the way to go

What is nice about the forge battery I seen was how well it performed but how freaking fast it recovered. That means more cuts and more work done in a certain amount of time. Can't wait to get my hands on one and put it in the field. Also can't wait till the next year for the new tablets batteries there releasing !

@jaycarneygiants You’re right on target with the thoughts that the 8ah being a poor choice of battery vs the xc6ah with 21700s ( a poor choice relative to the others like the 12 or xc6.0 forge 6.0 and imo a really poor choice for high power draw tools. I’ve personally seen the 2826-20 top handle 14” chainsaw kill two of the (48-11-1880) xc8.0 AH batteries, out of warranty of course but the only and both times it happened the batteries were used on the same tool and it’s been the only tool to do something like this. I also own and regularly use the 2727-20 16” saw with an 18” bar regularly and have never had that issue…I figured the battery had just been drained below the LV cutoff but the odd thing is that the voltage on the pack is still 18.5v and the individual strings of cells are all still balanced within .3v so my guess would be either the tool pulled to much current and overloaded the pathway and possibly either shorted something out and fried something on the board or what I’m not sure and am not an expert but I’m also unsure because dr left hand thread has a video showing a similar situation and said whenever he seen that he’s had to replace the board on em so I’m not sure I also seen a few arborists using the same saw complaining about the 8s and having issues with the 8ah specifically…it’s always the eight or 9s with issues ime

Biggest advantage of the forge line is that you get 80% battery on two of them at a time in 15 minutes using the super charger. Essentially you'll always be at max on a battery without having to change often so high power and fast recovery

I’m concerned about Milwaukee’s use of lipo battery in these new forge batteries. Coming from the RC world, lipo batteries need carefully maintenance to ensure long life. The can’t be discharged too low or stored at full capacity for a long. They also need to be balanced charge too. The other issue with lipo batteries is that the have the likelihood to puff up if they are over discharge. Not sure what Milwaukee is doing to address these downfalls with using lipo batteries.

What's the gimmick exactly? I don't see a gimmick in having the smallest form factor tools possible. Being an electrician I will never go back to hanging a fat, clunky, and heavier M18 or similar impact driver off my belt all day. @@onikwa Try using the M12 vacuum, or multi-tool for example, without having to replace the battery after every 5-10 minutes of combined off-and-on use. You can't, because the battery platform is meant only for spot-use, tiny odd jobs, etc. The M18 platform doesn't have that issue. Yet they still market the M12 line toward career tradesmen who work full days, every day. Gimmick at best, false advertising at worst.
