The legend of Al Capone looms large over the state of Wisconsin, but how do we know if one of the most infamous men in American History actually visited the Badger State?
New photographs and correspondence reveal not only personal friendships and a more playful side of Al Capone, but that he was trying to purchase property in Northwoods, Wisconsin.
In Al Capone: Prohibition and Wisconsin, filmmakers Brian Ewig and
Traci Neuman bring to light a new angle on the man who was once public enemy number one. The half-hour documentary features the family Al Capone was writing to, and the story of how they found out their grandfather was friends with one of the most infamous men in American history; a friendship that was hidden away for 90 years.

As kids back in the late 60’s- 1970s we would camp at a lake resort in northern Wisconsin. Pretty sure the lake was called big McKensy lake(likely spelled wrong). Anyway it was the resort where some gangsters had a big shootout with the feds. I remember seeing gun ports built into the foundation of the resort and bullet marks where there was an obvious gun fight. It was quite the battle. I was told it was there where Al Capone barely made it away from the area alive. It was a favorite hangout for us teenagers to fish and swim all day,.then go bar hopping at night by boat. Those were the days my friends.

This video was very well done and I appreciate hearing details of Al Capone the man, the friend and the family man rather than the gangster, bootlegger, etc! We all have multiple sides and interests showing more of who wexreally are and it was good to hear about the positive attributes and generosity of Al Capone for a change. There really is hope for everyone who seeks forgiveness and atonement through the Lord and a supportive forgiving loving family as well. Rest In Peace
