Although I am a grammar nerd who enjoys studying tenses and conjugations for their own sakes, I observe that the technique you present is more effective because it mirrors the “natural” learning process. A minor suggestion. Because Spanish is pro-drop, subject pronouns are usually omitted unless there is a reason, often involving disambiguation or emphasis, not to omit. Learners should be made aware of this.
