Kratos acknowledging that he must tell Atreus, but demanding to personally take responsibility for it really hits hard. In Ragnarok when Mimir mentions how far Kratos has come from when they first met, Kratos responds "I've had good counsel since then" and this is a prime example.

Honestly, this scene was the one that made me genuinely respect Mimir as more than a Mr. Exposition character. Despite being literally just a head with nothing more than his smarts, he openly calls Kratos out for being hard-headed and forces him to confront his feelings face-on. Despite literally just figuring out he's the Ghost of Sparta who decimated most of the Greek Pantheon.
@backtoklondike
@backtoklondike Жыл бұрын
They really subverted a lot of things with Mimir. You'd think he'd only be expositing and be the comic relief and could ruin scenes by making one-liners all the time. Sure he is the comic relief but they gave him depth. When moments needed to play out, he either keep quiet or he'd turn serious. And at the end of the first game, he even stayed with the dwarves because that was a moment Kratos and Atreus needed to be alone for and he wanted to respect that.

@@lordology4815To think about it, Greece was the last trip Tyr went before he was imprisoned by Odin when he returned home. He arrived during Kratos's time serving under Ares (If you look at the cutscenes in Tyr's temple where Kratos finds a vase with the painting of his former self there) so He was there long enough to witness Kratos's war against Olympus and then left when Greece is in ruins. He told the tales about the ghost of sparta to the Aesir but of course, none of them bought it because they think the story is fictious or so unrealistic.

Well, look at the narrative importance Kratos is the title character. This is his game series, we have 5 main games to tell his story Gorr’s only real purpose was to show how strong thor was, we had one comic line (or movie depending in how you look at it) to cover Gorr’s narrative in someone else’s story
@Xylarxcode
@Xylarxcode Жыл бұрын
@@lordology4815 Kratos had the opportunity to be set up over several different games. He's gotten way more time to grow as a character. MCU Gorr had one movie and yea, it was shit, but one movie is not enough time for a villain with a complicated backstory to really shine. He's done better in the comics, but like Ultron (who was also done really dirty by confining him to a single movie), they rushed it and skipped a lot of the interesting stuff, toned a lot of the dark stuff down hard and nerfed many of their abilities and feats. If they had to tell the story of Kratos in a single movie, it would be missing a lot of parts and information that makes him interesting too, because one movie is not enough time to dig into it all. You'd need several movies, regardless of who (hypothetically) makes them.
@Rynjinivar
@Rynjinivar Жыл бұрын
Gorr is pretty cool in the comics, actually. A suitably epic and even tragic character. Not as good as Kratos, since he STILL doesn't have as much screentime, but has a similar arc/realization that in his quest to kill gods he has become the thing he hated. "The god of godslaying" is still, in the end, a god.

That “Never go there. Understand?” from Mimir. The entire time, Mimir’s been an advisor, some entertainment, and a second opinion if he was lucky. But now, speaking way out of tongue, doesn’t advice Kratos to not go, doesn’t imply they shouldn’t, he commands Kratos not to. And I’m certain that was the moment Kratos began to gain a little respect for Mimir, and knowing how he’s never spoken like that before, understands the importance that of all the things Mimir has said, this is the _one_ thing Kratos needs to listen to.
