You may think you already know how to do this, but here's the BEST way. It leaves you with a flat bottom (no matter how thick the ribbon is) and doesn't leave you with a bunch of leftover unusable ribbon scraps after trimming.

This is the best tutorial for tying a ribbon and making a bow on a package. I looked at several others but this is the one that actually taught me how to do it!

Man.. this was super helpful! I've always done them the traditional way and never thought to do this. I like it because you can shift it to be off center or right in the middle then tape down underneath where you want it to stay.

The thing is with the knot in the ribbon.. it means the person opening it will need scissors... and I just think its nicer to open a gift by undoing a bow to release the present... than cutting the ribbon off. Just my thoughts as I am about to start selling my own items and using ribbon.

I was with you right up until you tied a knot in the ribbon. That kind of negates the purpose of the ribbon's bow -- that it can be pulled to open the packaging. The way you have it tied, the recipient would have to either try to undo the knot, or cut the ribbon off.

Hey! You can totally use this technique without that knot. I just find it easier to get a perfect bow when I start with a knot at the base of it. Just pull the tail through, cut the ribbon, and then tie your bow like normal. It doesn't negate the usefulness of the technique.

As wide as you want. The nice thing about this method is that it doesn't get bulky underneath, so it doesn't matter how wide a ribbon you use.

There's no twists UNDERNEATH which makes it lay flat and not wobble.

@@mimknits it's not clear. When teaching people how to wrap the teachers should go very slow and film up close. I can't see what you're doing because your hand obscures the view
