It's rare that I'm proud of being from Arkansas, but these guys have let me feel that for the first time in a while. This record is beautiful

I love this album, I listened to it 3 times back to back this morning. It’s my first 5/5 of the year.

Heartless is one of my favorite album of all time. This doesn't quite reach that level for me, but it doesn't have to. It's a fantastic record the likes of which we don't often hear.

100% agree with everything you said, I absolutely adore this album. My hopes were high after the singles but if anything they were exceeded - it's just stunning. I'm obsessed with the second half of 'Signals' in particular; don't know if it's my indie/alt-rock/shoegaze fan side talking but it's so gorgeous. Between this, the new Gatecreeper and Botanist it's been a good weekend of listening!

It's a great album in my opinion. I love what Pallbearer have been doing with their material, taking brave, creative, and emotive strides with their music unabashedly regardless of the moaning and dissatisfaction of some hardcore fans that just want them to stick with the same stale formula of repetitive droning heavy riffs. There is an incredible evolution to their sound as a band, and the dynamic they've managed to achieve from album to album is inspiring, as opposed to artists who too often fall into the confines of their safe zones, releasing the same record over and over again. Another artist that comes to mind who did this but to the extreme was the late great Mark Lanegan, whose later albums really dove deep into the electronica world, much to the dismay of many fans who wanted him to stick with the good old grungy acoustic folk of his first 5 records.

I never really paid much attention to Pallbearer to be honest. I don't know why. Maybe because of the name, I was expecting slower music with growling vocals. Based on your review here, I checked out Mind Burns Alive and I love it. I'll be going back in their discography and checking out other releases. Thank you for the review.

Heartless is my fave from them too, and also 4.5, with 5/5 under consideration.

The singles are ok at best, not feeling the “new sound” but will give the record a listen Sorrow and Extinction is their magnum opus and Heartless is almost perfect

Thank you for the thorough review. I didn't know this band before but once you mentioned Khemmis (who I don't know all that much, but have prev enjoyed), I wanted to know more. I just listened to the album and it indeed is very nice. Love the jazzy/sax part. A splash of that now and again adds variety. I did not expect to find a fun death/doom band from Little Rock today, of all places, lol.. Cheers.

Speaking of highly praised albums, I heard a lot of very nice things about Aquilus' Bellum II.. Didn't have the chance to listen to the album, but I'll check out both as soon as I get the chance :)

Loved their first 3 records but I did not find Forgotten Days to be that memorable. I haven’t returned to that album very often when compared to the others. The singles for this new record I’ve found very promising though so I’m expecting a bounce back performance from them! Enjoyed the review!

hey melty! another banger video as always! three days ago, the bang Coroza released the single As Within, and today they released the full-length (at least according to Metallum, i havent listened to it because its not on spotify yet.) if the single is anything to go off of, id say its a pretty solid sludgey album and i think you'd have some fun with it.

I'll be honest, I never quite got into Pallbearer based on their last album, despite me being a big Doom Metal enby. I guess it's more to do with preferring the more operatic sinister vibes of Epic Doom Metal, akin to Candlemass or Ghost. But given my fondness for Marianas Rest from last year (it was #2 on my best of list) and Swallow the Sun, I'll give this a chance! Though I don't expect it to be as heavy as the aforementioned Melodic Death/Doom titans, I hope to vibe with the music as much as I feel the melancholic introspection of the vocals. Cheers for the recommendation, mate! (P.S: It bugs the shit out of me when people continue to pronounce the full millennium when talking about any given year's release. Why not just say twenty-twenty-four since it's so much easier? This has been, Mystic's Meaningless Nitpicking corner XD)

I forgot, on the horns in metal tip, the new record from DYSTOPIA-De Verboden Diepte 1... (progblak) has a lot of great trumpet work. One of the most underrated black metal releases from April.

Man, Pallbearer was a band I really wanted to love years ago, I remember I liked their guitar work but did not vibe at all with the vocals. I'll give this album a shot though, hopefully it changes my mind on them.

I am still digesting the album. I don't think it is as good as Foundations of Burden or Heartless, but still processing this one! Probably a 3.5/5 for me right now. Thanks for your perspective!

I’ve only heard this album once but I personally found it kind of boring. Feels somewhat meandering! Maybe more listens will bring a different opinion but for now I would go 2/5

I just listened to this new one. It was ok. Yeah I know it's Doom-ish, and there heavy parts, but the pacing is one-note.. I found myself yawning mid-record. I know the lyrics are thought provoking, and even well-written and executed. The singing is fantastic. The mix is even brilliant. Like I said I found it monotonous and repetitive ad nauseum. Best record of the year? No. Pretty good? Yeah. Maybe I need more listens, but I'm not hearing one of the best albums of the year. 3 out of 5. Sorry, just being honest.

I'm trying to feel the album but it hasn't hit me as of yet. Its definitely not a metal album though.
