Caution: if you like the video and are amazed at it's brilliance, don't read this or it might ruin your perspective on it. if you want to know a (possible) way it could work then read on.. I caught onto what was happening around the time you said "81" the nx9-5=(y(+y where appliable)) is just a formula to get anybody to 4. the fact you said 81 (after you said to minus 5) threw me because 9x9=81 -5 is 76 and 10x9=90 - 5 is 85, so you couldnt have got to 81 after the -5. then you said 41 which again puts you in the same boat (5x9=45-5 is 40 and 6x9=54-5 is 49. so in turn, the 2 numbers you threw out gave away your hidden motive that no matter where you go, you'll always end up on 4. 1x9=9 - 5 is 4 2x9=18 - 5 is 13 (1+3=4) 3x9=27 - 5 is 22 (2+2-4) 4x9=36 -5 is 31 (3+1=4) etc... Of course then you have the country's begginning letter, 'D'. Being that there are only 5 countries begginning with D (one of which is an isalnd off puerto rico, and another a small chunk of land in the north eastern part of africa, also not traditionally spelled in english, and neither of them known to me prior to about 5 minutes ago) we are left with the most "picked" choice, denmark. Which is (more or less) programmed into our brain, what with the alphabet game, coupled with the fact we have to make a quick choice and throwing denmark out is much simpler and quicker than the the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (which even in this case you would be stuck with 'E' for your second letter, but the end result would be less impressive) Next you'll be left with an animal that starts with E, and even from the youngest possible age we are taught to assosciate the letter E with elephants, it's practically hardwired into us (A-Apple B-Banana C-Carrot D-Dog E-Elephant) My point being unless your from australia (emu's and echidnas) you will most likely be left at either eagle or elephant, and given the choice out of the 2, the majority will go straight to elephant due to it's familiarity and connection with the blank letter E. And of course the colour at the end is just a bit of extra flare. Algorithms and basic human thought patterns. Just sayin'...

Any number 1-10 multiplied by 9 (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 64, 72, 81, 90) all equal 9 when you add the digits together. Also, if you take away 5 from any of them it will be 4 every time. So you didn't really have any choice of letters, you were forced to pick D from the start, and the first thing anyone would think of is obviously Denmark. Then the first animal with E is obviously elephant. That being said, I picked eel so trick failed x.x

Holy crap he got it. That was the best mental trick I've seen in awhile.

It's just a simple math trick. ANY number between 1-10 multiplied by 9, subtracted by 5, and then added together to make a single digit number equals 4. For example: 7 x 9 = 63. 63 - 5 = 58. 5 + 8 = 13. 1 + 3 = 4. Works for every number. Then the rest of the trick is him assuming that you pick Denmark because there are so few countries that start with D. The second letter is E and when people think of animals that start with E, the first thing they think is elephant 99% of the time. I did Dubai but couldn't think an animal that started with U, although it was irrelevant anyways because it had already not worked for me.

The key of this trick is to think of it quickly whatever comes to your mind. We all know that the number we end up here is 4 and the letter is D. Here comes the fun part, I actually think of Dutch and the second letter is U. If you want to find an animal that starts with U, Wow,,,, so complicated. So, I thought of something simpler. Here comes the Denmark next. Why? Because you want to simplify your answer. The conclusion is that if you really think quickly on your mind, you tend to simplify your answers that comes to your mind. Try it within 10 seconds with the entire process. (4 -> D -> Denmark -> Elephant)
