i hate it when people mirror my body language. i always notice it even if they dont and it makes me uncomfortable

I tried this "Door in the face" technique with my mom. I asked if I could go to a big party on friday, she said "no." It was obvious and then I asked what I really wanted to ask, if I could go and sleep over at a friends house tomorrow after school. She said "no" again. Well I guess, my mom is one of those people who can't be manipulated easily.

I'm homeschooled. A couple months ago I was trying to convince my dad to hold off on chem lessons for a week (it was spring break) and so we argued for about five minutes when I brought up "patience" something I've always hated but he's always wanted me to learn. So he said something along the lines of "so choose a day for chemistry" and I said "next week". I tricked my dad, who's 47 years older than me, to do something that he didn't want to do by just bringing up a phrase.

The closest thing I've ever done to any of these is show up to an interview wearing the same colors as the uniform, but with a jacket over it so it's not super obvious, and not the same style like if it's red polos and black pants wear a red blouse and black pants. I've gotten every job I've done this with. Could be a coincidence but I do it on purpose.

I have been trying the mirroring technique to get this dude I sit next to in my class to not hate me. I think it's working. He was really cold at the start of the semester but when I started mirroring how he sat he started to ease up and is nice to me. Success!

The "Foot in the Door" technique doesn't really work. You wouldnt ask someone for a favor and then directly ask them for a bigger favor. It gives the impression of being needy. The only reason it seemed to make sense here is because you followed the first favor up with a compliment. The better thing to do is to wait until a person needs a small favor from you, or wait until they do something worth complimenting then simply, compliment them.

this is social psych 101. all of these things are usually covered in social psychology classes, and yeah, even your average person uses them. but mostly, they're used by marketers to get you to buy useless stuff.
