This Schwarzkopf triple looper is the world's tallest, longest and fastest indoor coaster, but it's mostly known for a terrible accident that occurred in June 1986 when a wheel sheered off the last car of the train and it smashed into a concrete pillar at high speed killing three of the riders.
Evidence showed that Fantasyland, now called Galaxyland, had ignored a special inspection order from the General Safety Services Division and cars were checked only by visual inspections and not by taking them out from service.
Following the accident the cars were redesigned. Existing four-car trains were converted to three-car trains, reducing capacity from 16 to 12 passengers per train. Additionally seat belts and a shoulder headrest were added, the retaining bolt was moved to the top of the axle, where it is easily inspected, while maintenance checks and scheduled maintenance downtimes were significantly increased. Following these changes the coaster has been accident-free.
Check out the reverse on-ride video we posted to see what it's like to ride in the backwards facing rear seats of this thrilling coaster: • Mindbender reverse bac...
You can also watch the off-ride video we posted to see more of what this fun coaster looks like: • Mindbender off-ride HD...
Galaxyland Amusement Park is located inside of West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada.

@@stannardmoose The perfect example of a dumb GP comment. If your train stopped that’s a sign of it functioning exactly how it supposed to. Most likely a train ahead hasn’t cleared the course so the train you were in stopped at the top of the lift hill. And be real, 99% of looping coaster are over 100 feet tall. That’s like saying don’t ride any “tall” coasters over 200 feet tall.

Btw even the original lapbar was 100% safe. Other coasters like it built by the same manufacturer in the US like Mindbender at Six Flags Over Georgia or Shockwave at Six Flags Over Texas operate perfectly fine with simple lapbars. Accidents like the 1986 one on this coaster and the one on Quimera in 2019 in Mexico is the parks fault. I do think the manufacturer was partially responsible for the Mindbender accident but what happened to Quimera was 100% the parks fault.

I was 52 when I went on this devil's ride lol. My nephew hounded me to go on it with him until I finally said yes. He laughed uncontrollably when the safety bar went down because he knew I was trapped. As the beast coasted slowly out of the starting block I turned to him and asked him what was so funny. The picture that was taken halfway through the ride showed a bewildered middle-aged man desperately clutching the bar with only one eye open and hair awry. Good Lord the way that thing twisted and turned and dropped. You couldn't pay me to get back on that thing but I'm sure glad my nephew convinced me to go on it. A great experience but one for the young!!

I road the mind bender for one purpose only. Just to say I did it. It is a really rough ride and I found that really uncomfortable. It felt like my head was being jerked left and right. I closed my eyes on the loops lol , After I go off the adrenalin rush was amazing. I wont ride it again because of the head jerking but it one hell of ride. Try it out. I will stick with the kiddie coasters lol

I live Near the mindbender, and It is the first serious rollercoaster most people in my area have ridden, on the second loop the G's are so intense that I got pinhole tunnel vision. It is an intense ride, and people here tend to be split between being terrified of it, or loving it. Once you learn to clench and tense up like fighter pilots through the second loop its a great ride, but its not for the faint of heart.

This roller coaster is like “Kimera” in “La Feria de Chapultepec” in Mexico. I think it’s a great and amusing roller coaster. Also, I know it is famous for an accident it had some years ago where the last car went out of the rail, and recently the exact same thing happened to the clone of the rollercoaster in Mexico, but despite that, I really enjoy the ride in this rollercoaster

Fortunately the accident wasn’t as bad as the one with the mindbender. With the mindbender a cart not only derailed but the train also crashed into a concrete pillar. From my understanding with the one in Mexico a cart derailed but the rest of the train came safely to a stop. But I obviously wasn’t there so please fact check me.
