I helped design this aircraft for several years in the prototype phase. The engineering team were some of the best in the business with almost 100 years of experience combined. We designed and built an excellent product unfortunately it was too costly a venture. This design with the high wing was the best way to go keeping the retardant out of the boundary layer of the engine intakes. The design was excellent, and I was glad to be a part of it. In my opinion this aircraft is the perfect configuration for this task.

Someone made the BAE 146 conversion work. Don't argue with the engineers and quit listening to the Good Idea Fairy. And yes, you have to pay your bills.

Wow...you can hear the heartbreak in his voice... Its really sad that the actual engineering (concept, build & test flight) was a great success...but it was a victim of pencil pushing engineers...

If the F'ing pilots are blaming maintenance, they're blaming the engineers. Pilots are the worst part of aviation.

It was the FAA and cost that killed it. The FAA continued to move the goal post and treated it with more and more regulations. We built a great mod and it was a pleasure to work with old school engineers. Both have passed on but they taught me a lot. They were Mcdonald Dougles engineers and showed me how to read and understand engineering drawings prior to ANSI specifications. In fact, I had to work on F4 mods reading the original J size drawings. I was the only one in my company who could read and understand the drawings from the fifties because of my time with these men.

What's with the whining? I count 5 of these in the air right now fighting fires in New Mexico.
