Fun fact: nether traveling is used to go longer distances because 1 block in the nether is 8 blocks in the overworld, therefore when you went 1k blocks away from your portal in the nether, you were 8k away in the overworld.

Fun fact about the nether, 1 block travelled there is equivalent to 8 in the overworld so you should have went back in the nether and only had to travel 1000 blocks instead of the 8000
