1:17 remember when i first heard this sound as a kid and it scared me to death, it was pretty much my first time playing minecraft and i knew very little about it. i remember freezing still and wondering what the hell kind of thing could make a sound like that. i immediately ran out of the cave i was in, because i wasn't brave enough to find out.

What I like about these ambient sounds is that while some of them sound like they could realistically happen in a cave (rocks falling, echoes through the chambers, vibrations from seismic activity,) others sound absolutely otherworldly

I remember getting _really_ scared after hearing some of these.

In my opinion cave14.ogg ( 1:19 ) is the scariest. Most of the other noises are standard ambient sounds that could maybe be chalked up to wind or roxks falling or whatever, but the glitchy sound of this one is so unnatural. It makes you fear whatever could be making the noise.

The minecart rolling sound effect is definitely my favorite. Super creepy to imagine a mineshaft overhead, because who’s operating that minecart? I once heard that cave sound play while I was exploring a mineshaft as a young kid and I promptly quit the game 💀

The choir sound (cave2) is actually insane. All the cave sounds have any meaning. They sound like a danger, or like a rock falling, or a mine rumbling, or some sound effect from a movie. But why the fuck do I hear ANGELS? In the game where there aren't any speaking humans at all?! This is soooo spooky considering the rest of the game

There's a HUGE difference between hearing these in a KZfaq video vs hearing them in-game. In-game they are way more teriffing.

The thing that makes cave sounds truly terrifying is the fact that they appear in a kid friendly game, You woudnt be expecting these sounds to appear in minecraft, But you would be expecting it on a horror game. It causes the feeling that something is there, Even though you cant see it.

I was listening to this hoping I could find one that was similar to a sound I heard a long time ago, but none of them quite matched up…. It happened on a public server a couple years ago, can’t remember which one. I was in the creative mode part of the server (where you’d have a little plot of land to build on) minding my own business when I heard this super bizarre sound. It wasn’t a cave sound- it was something LOUD. I can’t describe exactly how it sounded, but everyone in the server at the time heard it. Initially I brushed it off as nothing….and then it happened again. It happened several times before stopping. Everyone in the server (myself included) was, understandably, VERY confused. I still haven’t been able to find the source of that sound. Guess I’ll have to keep looking.

Cave2 is so creepy

This sounds are so iconic to me, I had so many experiences in hearing them, down to deleting worlds as a kid to getting scared of being alone in a minecraft server kinda weird thing to say but I can't imagine minecraft without this random creppy ambience, almost all of them are just hellish random sounds that can't be explained and I think thats why they are pretty effective at making you scared since you can't identify what or who is making those sounds. Even those that you can correlate with in game context (cave 16 sounding like minecarts for example), they can really catch you off guard, specially with cave16 and being in a mineshaft can give you small heart attack.

I've been playing Minecraft for years now, but decided to play some more recently for nostalgia. I was making my own mine, and as I was mining I mined right into a mineshaft. And as soon as I stepped foot in that place, cave18 played. There was no music playing at the time, no mobs, nothing. It was just dead silence. Then that sound played... Scared the fuck out of me.

Idk guys if you feel the same, but i think that from the most views moment. The scariest sound is the 14, but is very hard to describe why. I think thats because it has the more presence, we can compare it to the enderman chasing sound. But there are more details, when you hear it in the game, its just maddening.

fun fact: cave2.ogg was more than just a noise at one point. the portal to the end was originally supposed to be a portal to heaven. the idea wasn’t used, but the noise was kept. with that in mind, the purpose of this noise originally was to signify that the portal was nearby.
