Ever realize how creepy the end is? Instead of a giant world like the over world or nether, it’s just one. A single, floating island with no coordinates, no time and no texture, one block type. It’s almost as if this is some kind of forgotten memory, a decaying land on the brink of corruption. A world that’s lost it’s shape, form, and color. The only remaining enemy is the forgotten souls of the mobs as enderman, and a dragon with a soul purpose of flying about the island, with no hope or any motives. A brainless, empty void of a previous world, fading, corrupted, decaying.

I love how this entire 15 minute song feels like its telling me a story just through music

8:05 I remember one year my great nanny came down to visit us during easter and I was playing Minecraft on my moms computer. I had to have been 8 or 9 as it was a pretty early version of minecraft, the end must have been just added. However at that time, I remember I was in the Overworld building a house and Sweden started to play. My great grandma was a pianist. She could play any song she heard. We visited her house every couple of months yearly. So having her down at our house for a holiday was special. I remember when Sweden started to play, she walked by and said "wow, who is playing the piano, it's absolutely beautiful." I remember smiling and saying "It's my game." She responded "I love that, keep playing your game." ...I never will forget that moment.... I never finished that world... and then she passed away a couple years later... After this, I remember returning to Minecraft on my ps3, creating a new world. I was determined to beat the game for the first time alone without the help of my older brother. After hours of playing, I beat the dragon... but before I left through the portal to the credits... I waited for Sweden to play in the end track at 8:05 one last time. I remember sitting there silently... Eyes full of tears... Thinking about all of my memories made with her during visits... and as the music faded off into the silence of the void, I cried.... I thought "I did it Nanny..." I love you great Nanny. Thank you for everything. All of the memories... I'll never forget them. It's funny how a song from a game about blocks can be so emotionally powerful. How these songs can connect us to moments in life. To people. One of my favorite memories where when me and my brother used to play irl Minecraft in her front yard. It had a big hill we used to climb up and pretend to build houses on. I'm nearly 20 this year. Man time flies... Now in college, I look back at when I was in 3rd grade and experienced these moments for the first time. Feels like another whole life time ago. But strangely as if it was yesterday also. If your still young, cherish the people and things you have around you. Cherish everything. It all goes so quick.

It doesn't want you there so it keeps trying to bring you back with that familiar music but fails due to your constant determination to discover something. The overworld song slowly being glitched is actually really darn genius because is essentially of what is meant to remind you of. Is the end. So it plays a corrupted version of the overworld being slowly transformed into a glitchy yet really spooky state. To the point it becomes its own song.

This probably sounds dumb, but I'm 17, and I've played minecraft for years. And today, I beat the ender dragon on straight survival for the first time (without cheats/creative, or anything of that nature). When the ender dragon was at low health, the part at 8:08 set in, and for some reason it felt really emotional. Before I finished off the ender dragon I closed my eyes and every single minecraft related memory that I have just suddenly flashed into my mind, from when I first got the game on the Xbox 360, to now. almost like an extreme wave of nostalgia. I know it took me a stupidly long amount of time to actually beat the game, but something about the end music is just so emotional/powerful while hearing it ingame

Didn't realize the glitch was intentional

Ok. People with theories. Actual cannon story of minecraft here. If you read the entire end credits text, it's made pretty clear that Minecraft is a "short dream". The "short dream" of the game, as opposed to the "long dream" of life. Minecraft is a lower level of reality that exists within an infinite amount of higher ones. The End is that, THE END. It is a means for the two entities talking to eachother to wake you up from the "short dream" of minecraft, and encourage you to wake up from the "long dream" of life. These two entities, which seem to be the basic fundamental forces of existence (such as atoms, quarks, energy, strings, higgs bosons, etc.), mention the purpose of your existence in Minecraft and the real world. But the information is redacted, saying that you cannot read it because you have not reached a "higher level". Minecraft is just a really long visual poem that tells the player to try to enlighten themselves Edit: Yes, i know this is not an in-game explaination for Minecraft's in-game lore. Its a theory about what Minecraft as a whole (and the end credits) mean. I phrased it wrong in the beginning, and my apologies. Its no more an explaination of Minecraft's lore as it is of the Earth's history. And no, I came to this hypothesis long before MatPat made his Game Theory. I made a comment on HIS video say as such. I know that the honor system doesnt work well on the internet, but I dont like lying to people. I never intentionally spread unoriginal ideas. So please give me the benefit of the doubt, im just trying to be a respectable guy.

As a classical music lover, I find that soundtrack gorgeous. Not only is it extraordinary beautiful, especially in the context of the game, I am also fascinated by the harmonies in it and the structure of mixing of other familiar themes. Amazing!

Here is my theory: The End is actually the Unknown. The human mind is amazing, capable of imagining things, it's an universe. But, it doesn't matter how much we evolve, there are still many things we won't ever understand. Steve has amazing knowledge. He is able to make almost everything of the simple things he extracts. As an intelligent being, he keeps going further and further, trying to make his life more comfortable. But what if, one day, he decides that he wants to discover the truth about everything... The meaning of existance? Remember the "Farlands"... The glitch version of the world that appeared after you walked a few billion blocks in a straight line? They are the representation of "going too far", by that I mean, learning something above human level... Something Steve can't understand. "The End" is, in my view, is "going WAY too far"... Trying to solve the great mistery mankind never will. That's why everything is glitchy... With shadowy figures and their horrifying purple eyes... Do you understand what they are? Aliens? Corrupted humans?... And why is everything destroyed? What happened? We hear overworld songs playing on the background... This is the character trying to connect everything... But failing. He fails because The End is not meant for him to understand... It is the Unknown... It is The End...

This 15-minute-long song is a masterpiece and is brilliantly made. This soundtrack suits the End perfectly and even leaves more questions than answers, this is probably one of the best tracks on C418's album Minecraft Volume Beta.

For a world defined by infinity, a place named The End sure does seem... strange. A world with infinite choices and possibilities and land to explore and yet The End is very tight and claustrophobic. You only have a tiny island with no escape to roam. Two different kinds of blocks, a single type of mob and a single boss. The only way out is with someone dying. You, or the dragon. Not a lot of possibilities or options. Everything about it is so uncomfortably barren. To me, that's what The End represents. The end of infinity. Humans always want more. They want infinity but aren't satisfied by that. They want an End to that Infinity too. I don't think it's a coincidence that The End and the end were both introduced on Minecraft's full release. Because in a way, Minecraft was that Infinity. And when you kill the Dragon, you're killing that Infinity too. You brought The End to Infinity.

You know how every zombie is dressed up in Steve's clothing? As if they're each a Steve who has perished in this infinite world. I believe Endermen are each Steve who has failed in the void.

The End is my favorite dimension. The way it feels like, with the OST, the islands, the pillars, the cities, the Ender Dragon, the Endermen, the Shulkers, the Endermites, the elytra, the floating boat, the dragon egg and more is so incredible, you can find yourself nostalgic of what you've done, you can feel every emotions on Earth, and you can feel Empty due to this place atmosphere. The End and Minecraft in general is trully a masterpiece, I played it since 2014-2015, and i've never been disappointed. I love this game.

First thing what you feel is nostalgia. Then... You just realize that it's literally the end. Nothing more... Thats... All... And then you start to remember everything you went through. That's... All... And you just keep living. Slowly forgetting about those days. But still. Sometimes. Good memories appearing, but, they are already so forgotten that you can't remember what exactly was. Getting to The End (Part 1). A story that will feel similar to a lot of us. Its somewhere in the 2010s, you buy Minecraft. you start your very own world. Then you experience some common things: Rather you spawned on a tiny isle, spawn on some plains, or in a very boring forest. You're so excited to start your virtual blocky life, so you start to cut some trees down, or just dig up some dirt. You probably realize you don't have enough blocks to make your house. You get more of the wood, or dirt. You finally made your simple house. Amazing, right? You've just began though. What to do? Go attack some animals. Doesn't matter which, you're still going to eat from it. Basic survival. "ITS RAWWW", someone famous has said a lot. You wish to make a furnace, but you can't find it in your mobile crafting table. You decide to make a more creative table with your mobile one. Then, you find the furnace and on how to craft it. You don't have the requirements for this item. Cobblestone is needed. You suddenly realize stone is mostly underground, and it can be a little scary mining. So you craft some sticks, use some wood blocks, and make a wooden pickaxe. You dig, and mine your first, ever virtual, piece of stone. not enough though. You get more. You're so excited that you got enough and can craft your first ever crafting table, well, craft. The Furnace. You decide to try and use the furnace, and we'll, you don't have coal. So you will have to mine deeper. No worries though. After you go back to the overworld from your time wasting trip. You see, it's nighttime. After realizing this, you hear some strange sounds coming from near. WHAT IS THAT GREEN HUMAN CREATURE THING? Learning later, it's a zombie, the basic nighttime enemy. You run for life. Home Sweet Home. You made it. Thank goodness zombies are really slow. You decide to sneak out and get more wood, to make, the wooden sword. If you were an OG player, the sword was able to be used as a shield. Pretty cool, I guess. Ehh. Anyways. You wonder, what do zombies have when you eliminate them? You decide to defeat one. What a 1v1. Success, spamming the attack button, you have acquired the Rotten Flesh. Eating it was a pretty bad idea. What now? I've beaten my first enemy? That can't be it. There must be more, way more, than just defeating a stupid zombie. You decide to get off minecraft for the day. If this comment gets a lot of likes, I will continue this.

I have no clue why, but the sound error noise gives me chills... Like it basically sends you a false feeling of home, then it begins losing power, effectively causing the error sound. Then the rest is a "you're not home anymore child" aspect.

Everyone's having theories about the end, when I'm over here questioning how the end portal was created to even go there in the first place.

I have an interesting theory about the dimensions. I belive the end and nether portals are a form of time travel. Let's start with the nether. The nether is a very distant past of the overworld we know today. It was inhabited by a primitive, ancient species that built the nether fortresses.I belive the nether and overworld are connected because pigmen can spawn in the overworld via a pig getting struck by lightning. The overworld is what was evolved from the nether. Over a course of millions of years life would bounce back and the world would be beautiful. Civilizations would spring up left and right filled with life and prosperity. Moving on to the end, the end is a very far future where the universe is on its last legs as reality crumbles before us. You have probably noticed that endermen exist in all 3 dimensions and I belive this is because they have been around since the begining. They have been watching reality take place, hiding in the shadows, becoming aggressive only when noticed. The strongholds were built in an attempt to figure out where the endermen were coming from, but while doing this they discovered the end. After realizing what they just saw they frantically attempted to prevent this terrible future from inevitably happening, but they had failed. It was the beginning of the end. Slowly over thousands of years reality would fall apart and life in the overworld would perrish. The only things left at the end were the ones there since the beginning. The endermen.

This theme makes the Ender Dragon sound like a truly evil being that needs to be slain. A monster with undeserved godly powers, a devil that corrupts the world itself. Really awesome.

The gradual switching from other Minecraft melodies to just nothingness, makes it feel like the end cant really figure out what it is, switching between existing songs, trying to find an answer.

There is nothing left. This is the cold, forgotten remnant of all your failed creations. Every project you quit, world you forgot, every friend you lost to make it here. Its all here. Yet nothing is here. This is the end.

8:06 - 9:48 is easily the most intense part of this song and possibly the soundtrack as a whole. Throughout the song, you can hear distant melodies, songs that you recognize from your journey vaguely fading in and out. This moment right here however has been the most in your face about this. The piano cords are no longer faded out but very clearly in the foreground at the center of attention. A sort of moment of solace allowing you to reflect upon your journey. But then, this motif finishes and you're back to the noise, only growing louder and louder, the faded music returning until finally, a single low bass note cuts through all of it, allowing even the noise to begin fading away. Such a wonderful work of art this music is.

8:06 is by far the best part of this whole 15 minute soundtrack

I love how this game has no real goal. You're never told what to do. You are free to do, literally, whatever you want. You explore this vast virtual world, shape it as you see fit... At some point you start discovering a pattern, a sort of "hint" that there is something out there, a different dimension perhaps, like the Nether? But more... mysterious. This OST PERFECTLY encapsulates what it's like to finish the game. You've crafted your own journey, despite that never being the goal of it. You've built castles, you've slain monsters, you've played with friends... you've made memories... The subtlety of the Overworld OST in this soundtrack is hypnotizing. As if, all this unintentional journey was wrapping up. As if, you're in a place where all of those memories are gone, only coming and going to remind you of their existence. Merely a reminder of what once was. Wake up.

Ive been playing minecraft since 2012, and its crazy to see how much this game has changed... i remember the first ever time i played MC, i built my first house out of bricks in the side of a mountain, it had lava coming out the windows. Do you remember those Nether reactor blocks? The gold, diamond and iron ones? Yeah THOSE days... This song brought tears to my eyes, because it reminded me of the old days. The days that i would stay up through the night, just to make my house look better.

Came just for the piano part on 8:06. It is amazing, emotional, and a 21st-century masterpiece.

This soundtrack touches me the most, its like floating in the end, all the old music playing in the background, your ready to "free the end" in the same way it feels powering like you want to keep going to get elytra and build your world, thanks notch and the rest of the minecraft team.

Theories aside, I find it very ingenious and disturbing that through the end's music, you can hear and recognize various songs from the normla overworld that have been distorted and swept under the ever present noise of vastness from the end.

Why this is feels so good

The part with the Sweden melody playing in the background is easily the best part of the song. It feels hopeless, yet hopeful at the same time. Like everything keeps falling apart whenever you try putting everything together. It can convey many emotions, and that’s why it’s amazing. It’s terrifying how it slowly gets drowned out by the constant pulsating flow of synth, and when all the chaos finally ends, it’s like it snapped, and you are forced to face everything happening all at once, head on. This song is amazing, and is arguably better than pretty much all the songs in the soundtrack. Thank you C418 for making such a masterpiece.

This is by far my favourite piece of music from minecraft. It uses the nostalgic peaceful songs you were used to and contorted them into a distorted and yet epic mess.

I made a theory years ago about what happened to the end, and jit just keeps evolving xd. The overworld music playing at the start made me think that maybe the end was once an overworld and the music slowly becoming more twisted and corrupted means that something happened turning it into the end we know, and sometimes the theory took weird directions, like maybe an ancient civilization of that world that became the end, went to the end of another world, defeat the dragon, took the egg and return victorious to their original world, just for the egg to hatch when they least expected it, causing a big damage to the people of that world, then the dragon starts to lay eggs, that will make more dragons who will eventually annihilate that world, so the remaining beings of that civilization would learn how to hunt them, they then killed "all" the dragons, but their world is already doomed, just dead islands floating in a infinite void, and the only source of food are the Chorus Fruit the only thing that can grow out of the end stone, but that fruit slowly turns them into what we know as an Enderman, mindless creatures who just roam between worlds without any goals, but at the end, a dragon survived, hiding from it's hunters, just to eventually be killed by a person from another world, who takes it's egg as a trophy, and then the cycle keeps going on. I played Minecraft since 2012, but I never killed the dragon until like a year ago, when me and my friends started a realm. It was like 3am and I was building a bridge between the islands, carrying a lot of loot, with this music that I never heard before, and I was completely terrified. I can't remember the last time a videogame make me feel such a strong feeling. And that's why I love Minecraft. Because after all these years playing it, it still has a lot to discover. It's different each time.

i just realized.. at 14:28 The song stops. at 14:34 The song plays but this time its a looping version of sweden at 14:42 A cassette gets popped out of a cassette player and its put back in at 14:50 The song repeats.. that means in my theory the song never ends which means the fight between the ender dragon also never ends, minecraft is just a repeating battle against Reality.

This what I imagine dying feels like. Memories flicker in and out as the overwhelming emptiness sets in.

I played this while fighting the Elden Beast at Elden Ring and it fits insanely well.

I absolutely love the music in The End. It gives off comforting vibes of old memories while also being eerie.

the music does give a big hint that the end feels like something you weren't supposed to see... Look at the textures of some of the blocks in the end including the end crystals they all have simple designs like they were in early development (including endstone it's a re-texture of cobblestone)

one possibility is that the end is the realm where worlds are unsuccessfully deleted, leaving the old players and the remaining scraps of the world distorted and corrupted. why do you think there are strangely built cities in the end? why do you think the endermen speak english? why do you think they cant stand looking at you? you, a player, still having their world to enjoy, while they are stuck in the "end." how or why such a creepy place would exist is beyond me, but i guess we found a way to enter it.

I really don't want the eerie, empty and vast atmosphere of the end to be lost if it were to be updated poorly.

That echo after the glitch part actually gave me chills. It was like the fact that it was a videogame was echoing far off into the void and carried off by the wind. After that the song seems to tell a story. Minecraft isn't a game, its art.

One of the biggest mistakes I made in my 8 years of playing Minecraft was playing 7 of them with the music off... I really wish I hadn’t now. When I hear the music, it brings up all the memories I could have made if I had left the music on. Moments gone, forgotten. Forever.

It gives such a contrast to the other parts where there's music playing over other music, playing out of tune, and repeating like a broken record. It gives a sense of awakening and clarity. To me, it's saying "Wake up. Your journey isn't over. You're here for a reason."

Time to write a long ass comment about this song's many segments. Segment 1: Not Minecraft. 0:00 - 1:14 The theme begins in an unexpected way considering the context. It sounds like the famous Minecraft main theme, but all glitchy, and it goes up to a painfully loud volume before eventually glitching out completely. This represents how the End is completely unlike the world you've been in the whole time, considering what immediately takes over... Segment 2: Void. 1:17 - 3:10 This is the part that shows best what the End itself is: a barren, lifeless void. It is little more than eerie ambience, with an atmospheric echo. It soon becomes something more, though... Segment 3: Familiarity? 3:10 - 5:00 Suddenly, some distant melodies start coming up in the background. Why do they sound so familiar? It's like an unreachable voice calling out to you... Segment 4: Distant Memories. 5:00-6:50 The melodies begin to get a bit more clear. And this is where it all makes sense. These are the other songs you've been hearing the whole game, and now they're calling to you from far away. It's like they're reminding you of everything you've been through, and looking back on the journey. Segment 5: The Buildup. 6:50 - 8:06 Now the song takes another shift and begins to start building up. The distant memories aspect is fully clear now, and it's time for something big to happen... Segment 6: You're a Hero. 8:06 - 9:48 This is the track's climax. It's the most famous segment for a dang good reason. Now that you've heard everything, it turns to focus on one motif: Sweden. Of course they had to make the most iconic song in the game the star of this segment. Anyway, this part is empowering and full of hope. I think it perfectly shows the "Hero's journey" aspect of Minecraft, especially with the game's context. You've freed the End, and it's glorious. And, like I've been saying, the motif is perfect for looking back on everything you've been through. At this segment's end, it gets super loud, as choirs sing out in glory, all for you! You beat the dragon and nothing can stop you! You're on top of the world! YOU'RE A HERO! YOU'RE- Segment 7: Still a Void. 9:48 - 11:45 Then it all goes away. It's back to just eerie ambience. And the distant memories don't come back this time. While you may have just had a big moment, this part reminds you that you're still in the End. A quiet void. So this part is just a long time to readjust. Segment 8: Glitchy. 11:48 - 13:30 Before it's all done, one lone voice pays you a visit. It is none other than the Minecraft main theme. It's still super glitchy, like at the beginning, but it's there. One little piece of hope in the darkness. But that, too, is temporary. Segment 9: Fading Away. 13:30 - 14:31 The last memory you had is gone, so there's really nothing now. Even the ambience is fading out. It seems like this rollercoaster of a song has finally reached its end. However, just when you think it's all done, the bouncing synth from segment 6 returns. Is this really happening? Will we have one more heroic moment after all? Segment 10: Minecraft. 14:31 - 15:05 Nope. It's all gone now. All that's left is one final appearance of the Minecraft motif, still crackly and glitched. Then that ends, and all you have is the sound of someone turning off a record player. Only silence follows... The End. Wow, this took a long time to write. I don't even play Minecraft that much nowadays, yet I still see all the symbolism throughout this masterful composition.
