The real plus to the Xterra Pro, is not only is it a great detector for the money, but it can use any of the Equinox coils along with Xterra Pro coils. That gives you way more versatility for your money. Great video Mark

This is so true and those coils are pretty affordable as well the owner of this machine could be well off to spend any extra money on an assortment of coils rather than needing to upgrade the machine to a mid-level. I guess the next real big step up from this machine would be to go into multi-frequency but I do see a whole bunch of these getting into lots of new hands in the next week! Thank you for the view Michael and for your comment you bring up a good point and I hope that anyone reading this will know that you are the Minelab dealer I recommend to all of my viewers on this KZfaq channel and can sort them out quick with this incredible and affordable machine! Happy holidays!

Wow! I have waited months for your follow up on the XTP, thanks! I have found 15” cans that sounded like a bar of silver and 1”splinters of sheet metal that hit like a flat silver dollar. The only time I can get the VDI to settle is with the wiggle or a flat laying coin. The nickels seem to be a steady 28-27-29 . One tiny pendant off rose gold was a solid 12. Silver coins 90’s but also large cans. The best tone in the 90’s I still have not got out it’s under a large root and then they posted a large sign NO METAL DETECTING! Anyway anyone with information on the XTP post it! And thank you to all who have already posted some!

You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it keep in mind that a smaller coil would make a big difference with this machine and also I'm hearing a lot of chatter all around the internet right now about people having better luck by turning their sensitivity down on this machine maybe try those two things and see if it helps you in some way. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment!

@WTKMD-jq1qs And Now that you know where the Coin is at ?? It's a Recovery Mission and Not a Metal Detecting to find it per the New Sign that was put in to stop Everyone and the X-Terra Pro just Lower your Sensitivity settings down below 20 and I started with 12 Sensitivity when I got the X-Terra Pro the first day out and it seems to low to get Any targets. but it helped me to understand it and what it was telling me about what the target is going to be and I was surprised when I was getting a 6 inch target and 12 Sensitivity. And I have always been using a Lowered Sensitivity on Any Detector that I have used until I got to know it AND I don't just start at the Full Sensitivity and Get Disappointed after it won't settle down and get me the targets and so I start at the bottom and get to know each target at first and then I will raise the Sensitivity up until 18 Sensitivity Now and to where I know what the target id and Tone is and I can Walk on and I'm not Carrying out more just junk Targets that the other Detectors that I have used and they was supposed to be a Great Simple Detector that I was using and then having to get 2 more Relics Junk Carry Bags on my Belt (3 total and tool holder) and now that I have the X-Terra Pro, I have only one Nail Pouch that holds everything and the tools and just lower the Sensitivity down below 20 and the X-Terra Pro will give you more information about the target and then when it's a Jumping around more than likely it's not a good target and I have left it..... but if it's a good tone then Dig it up but do lower the Sensitivity down below 20.....

@@WTXMD-jq1qs Yes I did have it bunched together and that Coin is a Recovery Mission and don't have any kind of detector with you At the Hole that is made and in fact it's just a hole, but always there is going to be someone who will be complaining on Anything, Karen's are Everywhere.... and I also have shown some of the Karen's my Trash Bag's and how dangerous the Can Slaw that I find is and then they have left me Alone, But it's always a Challenge to find something else wrong with us and the Actual Facts that We are good for Something else besides the Lengthy Talks on how much we are Messing up the Park's but then I would share the Junk Target's with them and Also offer to just go ahead and Dump my Bags on the Ground back to where I have found it and then it's always a no No don't do that but Karen's that is where I have found it 🤔🤔🤔 and I'm actually a Benefit to Collecting the Trash that others have left and for Whom to pick up and then we all know that the Lawnmower doesn't..... And on the X-Terra Pro just lower the Sensitivity down below 20 Sensitivity and also 12 Sensitivity and start the way back up and I have also changed the Tone Break's up to -4 and also the Hidden Features that alot of people don't know that it's there and I have watched ALOT of the Same So Called Experts that don't even know what the X-Terra Pro is capable of doing and you never see them change the Tone's break and will actually leave it on -16 and keep scrolling through again and again and you will find that the X-Terra Pro is a great deal once you just lower the Sensitivity down and let it tell you about what it's found..... ❤️.... and the Coins will really sound off and then the jumpy VDI is mostly the junk Targets, but also a jump Or two is a totally normal reaction with a good target but then it is really jumpy VDI then it's not a good target and I will be watching for the video of the X-Terra Pro Success 👍 and good luck 🤞....

No worries I totally understand. When I was trying to say is you can see many others in the comments in this video saying that they've had luck lowering the sensitivity. I have not tried that yet but I will. I tend to run the sensitivity right on the edge of too much on all of my machines. I feel like I can handle hearing all of that information in fact I usually run my machines wide open with no discrimination. And it's just because I've been detecting for over 35 years and I'm used to it. If lowering the sensitivity on this machine only helps to cut out chatter and clicks and pops. But does not give me any benefit in unmasking then I will not want to lower my sensitivity at the cost of depth of detection. I will go out and experiment with this and if I find it to be a benefit in unmasking some way for the overall performance of the machine I will make a complete new video just on this topic. Let me know if you try lowering your sensitivity if it helps you at all as well. Happy holidays!

I was one of those in the beginning that waned to give up on it but I learned many of the things you covered in this video by practicing and not giving up and I learned even more from watching this video. I love my Xterra, but I rarely have the sensitivity past 12. In the parks 6-10 and I still dig deep for items. If you listen to the tones, it will sing when it goes over a good tone. I would like to see you go to a park or school that might have more coins so beginners could get a better grasp on the good tones. I watched your first video on the Xterra and it is a great resource for those trying to learn the machine. Keep up the good work. I also use my equinox coils on the Xterra, and I love the small six inch coil. I would also start in 5 tones for beginners.

I have been reading lots of comments like this Terri. I honestly don't notice any detriment or disadvantage of where I had my sensitivity. But many others are saying the exact same thing you're saying I need to go back out and test this in a coin garden and in the field and see if I can notice any difference. I'm also going to put on the 6-in round in the iron and I think that is where lowering the sensitivity May really help with unmasking. I'm going to pin your comment to the top so others can see this and try it as well. I really appreciate you watching the video and taking the time to leave us this comment! Happy holidays!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a Fisher F5 and have dug lots of coins and a sterling silver charm bracelet in the front yard. I have covered that yard at least 10 times with no further targets. I bought an XTP last week and have already found several items the F5 missed. So far, good detector. I bought it with a specific area of water in mind that I want to search. Hope it does as well.

Since I released this video, I have learned that the sensitivity is very important, you don't want to have it too sensitive so that it's falsing, run it as hot as you can until it just starts to false a little then back off. Most run it at around 17 with good results. Thank you for your view and comment!

Great detector for the price. I like dialling in vibration mode when going over iron only. Its an advanced option when using vibration mode specifically when I hunt in iron infested sites. Obviously vibration mode is great for underwater too on all targets if you dont have underwater headphones. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated and very informative video. Cheers mate.

I see that your Sensitivity Was set on Full Sensitivity and The X-Terra Pro doesn't like The Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and that's why the little bit of chirping and the Jumpy VDI on anything that is not a Coin target and I have the X-Terra Pro and I Love it❤, and when I was just starting to use the X-Terra Pro, I have lowered my sensitivity down to 12 Sensitivity and I know that sounds Low but it helped me to get to know what the X-Terra Pro was telling me about the target id and how it responded to the target and when it was Jumping like that it's doing on your video, I know that it's not a Coin target and I know that not too get my hopes up and I have since Raised the Sensitivity up to 18-20 and I don't Go anything higher than 20 without any kind of ground Feedback and Chirping Away from the Many targets and I also have been using the All Metal Mode and that helps to indentify the Higher False Tone's of iron and I haven't finished the video yet and Alot of the Targets have to be Dug up to learn about the X-Terra Pro and how it See's and knows what is there And the Knowledge of the people that have bought the X-Terra Pro and it's not necessary to be on the Full Sensitivity to get the Targets and If you will try again and Lower the Sensitivity down below 20 and If I can get my friends to come over and help me with the Camera and I have the X-Terra Pro on 12 Sensitivity and it'll hit the 6 inch target and I love ❤️ it and correctly identify it too and I will now finish your video and thanks again for using the X-Terra Pro and it's a Keeper Detector... that is fun to learn...... and the Price Range 😮😮😮😮.... and it's a Great Coin Shooter's Dream Detector

I am reading all kinds of posts and information about this lately I have not messed with the sensitivity at all to try lowering it and I didn't realize that there could be a benefit by doing so as I don't see any detriment to this point as far as chatter and noise goes it was nothing that was too overwhelming for the or the machine I felt like I was connected to the ground just fine and able to weed through all the targets. I suppose I could do some testing on this am I going but thank you for your post and advice I will definitely follow up on this. Thank you also for watching the video. Happy holidays!

That is a great point and exactly how I feel about this machine. The problem with buying an inexpensive metal detector is they are not all capable therefore people who are dabbling into the hobby go out with it and they don't find anything good the next thing you know it's in a closet or giving away and they never pursue the hobby. Had they bought a very capable machine like this one they would actually find treasures and realize how fun and rewarding the hobby can be and with this minimum investment they can consider getting something better like a multi-frequency machine. I believe that lots of these will be in the hands of new detectorists as they're giving out this Christmas as gifts we should see a huge influx of this machine into the hobby. Thank you so much for the fantastic videos, they have really helped me, I am new to this, really love my XTerra Pro, the only thing I would say is that I much prefer using it set to one single, solid tone as I find all the other noises a little crazy and distracting, but set up on the single tone it has found me Roman coins, a ring, lead tokens, musket balls, a crotal bell, etc. Of course it picks up iron and trash cans and I end up digging everything, but for me, definitely that single tone seems cleaner and easier to tolerate :) Thanks again for the videos, please post up more :) Best Wishes Amanda

Thank you Amanda! Sounds like you have some really good ground to search. This machine is very capable and you will continue to do well with it! I totally get the single tone setting for some. Yes me too, it's always an issue with every metal detector and everyone has a story where they dug it one way signal to find a coin on edge or Tilted. The ones that come to mind to me over the years we're also not pinpointed quite well either they were always in the side of the hole. But I have tested coins on edge and an angles in my coin Garden and it's just one of those signals that you have to take a chance on. For me with productivity in mind I probably pass lots of those types of signals over in lieu of waiting for the sure bet. But maybe after a few trips to the same site I start digging all the iffy signals and that's where I find my coins on edge. But you bring up a really good point and I thank you for watching the video and for your comment. Happy holidays!

Firstly, thank you for watching the videos and for your kind words. I sincerely appreciate it! I have found lots of silver coins, tokens, etc at all of those parks as well as Southside Park, McClatchy Park and McKinley Park to name a few more. There are many areas along the river where old coins can be found too. But hard to figure out where your allowed to be as well as possible issues with homeless and bad neighborhoods. I have said it many times before my videos but to be successful with metal detecting you have to try to find a spot that no other metal detector has been to before. That means talking to the older folks who grew up in town and asking them where they used to swim at the river or where Parks were when they were children that are no longer there maybe old Fairgrounds, Etc. Thank you again for watching my videos and for asking this great question!

What pinpointer are you using? What sort of pouch do you carry to put all the stuff that you're finding I couldn't see it? Do you ever carry a magnet with you, I heard that magnets can't really hurt the detector, have you ever heard anything like that?

Great questions! I use many different types of pinpointers because I test all of them and own all of them some of the ones I use are the Minelab Pro-Find 40, Fisher F-Pulse, Deus MI6, Nokta Accupoint and the Garrett AT Pro Pointer. I have found all of them to have strengths and be very good. The type of pouch that I use is a Mag (Magazine) dump pouch. I use one that has Molle webbing so that it attaches to my belt system. My email address is in the description of all of my videos I would like to get a hold of somebody in your Club to come out and do a presentation for you guys. I always like to use large coils especially in schools and parks and less trashy areas not just for coverage but for depth I would turn my recovery speed down to zero on this machine and really listen for those deep Whispers. I know a lot of nice coins were found really in the ball fields around Land Park. The guys that found them were using big coils and creeping around slowly. In this video I was using a big coil and an area where it wasn't ideal that's for sure. So much trash I mean a big coil is going to hear like three nails and a coin all at the same time whereas a little coil might be able to surgically hear the coin in between. But you may also notice that in this video when I was doing the wiggle on the targets even with that big coil it was a really tight pattern over the object and I had no issues pinpointing at all. You bring up a really good point though I will look for your email. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment question. Happy holidays

@@rickylandry9979 the machines are very similar as far as features and Technology but the difference is in the build quality how Compact and waterproof the Xterra Pro is. is the auto tracking the best way to use ground balance?
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 3 ай бұрын
Great question!! 🤠 So if tracking was the best option with no disadvantages, Minelab wouldn't give us the option to manually adjust or ground grab. So there is a minor disadvantage in that the processor and algorithm are not as fast as some may prefer. It also depends what part of the world you're in and how much mineralization is in the ground in your area if you have very little mineralization a ground balance of zero is perfectly fine or if you have lots of mineralization that's pretty predictable and constant you can just grab the ground and use that setting. If the machine starts to false a bit with low numbers or starts whining or crying more than it did before you can always recheck the ground. Personally I do leave Auto tracking on and listen carefully for any falsing. I don't seem to have an issue with it here where I detect. But you are not going to lose any depth or sensitivity by having tracking on other than it could potentially not be fast enough to keep up with rapidly changing ground therefore falsing could cause you to miss a signal. I hope this makes sense as I've explained it. Like I said this is a great question. Thank you for watching the video and for taking the time to leave a comment with a question that might help others!

I also have an X-Terra 705 in my arsenal of detectors and it was by far my favourite machine for several years. Having said that, the XTP will run circles around the 705. The XTP is an extremely sensitive detector that will keep up with machines costing $1,000 more. The presets right out of box leave little to be desired but will get you started. I’ve probably spent close to 100 hours using the XTP and have customized the presets to my liking and my VDI numbers are pretty stable. As far as the 705 goes, it had a good long run but you would be much better off spending the money on the XTP rather buying new coils for the 705 unless of course you can find a 3 frequently coil for the 705 for less than $50.

Pretty good video but I can’t help but wonder how many good silver targets you passed up that were being partially masked from being close to junkier targets. I’d like to see a test on how it handles that situation. Will it pick up the iron over the silver or will the silver overpower the iron signal?
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 5 ай бұрын
Can you bring up a good point. First of all the large coil makes it very tough to hear desirable targets being masked by nearby iron as the footprint itself is more likely to have iron masking a good signal. It would have been a huge benefit to bring out a 6-in round coil. I'm sure there are other tests in KZfaq videos showing separation. But I will test this myself and do another video, I love that you bring this up and this makes a great opportunity for a testing video. Thank you for watching and again thank you for your suggestion and taking the time to leave a comment!

A lot of the chirps and pops can come from the "halo" effect of metals leaching into the dirt around them.
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 6 ай бұрын
Yes, as metallic items are buried in soil, over time the chemistry of some types of soils can leach the metal from the object where it is removed from its covalent bonds and the particles of bleached metal gather around the object where a bloom of that metal surrounds the object. These blooms of metallic particles can effect (adversly) the eddy currents from metal detector receiver circuit which can be heard on some machines. Engineers call this a halo as it is literally a cloud of particles now surrounding the original object. Some engineers have said that any kind of shovel going into the ground can "Crack" the halo therefore no longer adversly effecting the circuit and allowing the detector to perform better. Going to pin this so others can see your tip. Thank you for your view and great comment!

@@SlimShady-sn1lz I see you left this comment 4 months ago I'm still trying to catch up on my comments and I work on them daily. I apologize it's taking this long to respond but you don't want to run your recovery speed as high as you can and a small coil like a 6-inch round if you have one trade also make sure that you always do a good noise cancel and ground balance so that you can run the sensitivity as high as possible. Most fine they can't really run the sensitivity past 18 on this machine without it falsing. So start at like 16 and work your way up until the machine sounds pretty stable and not so chirpy. Turn 90 degrees on every repeatable signal. Get that little wiggle down (watch my X-Terra Pro - Pro Tips video on my channel). If your focusing on coins run the search mode Park 1 at 5kHz. If focusing on buttons and relics run search mode Filed 2 at 15kHz. Thank you for the view and comment/question!

My spot i go to sounds n looks like this, what would gold sound like? Or where is the best spot to find gold?
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 5 күн бұрын
@@SlimShady-sn1lz first of all you were going to want to run the machine in the search mode Field 2 so that you can take advantage of the frequency range of 15 kHz. Because of the limit of the frequency to only 15 kHz on this machine it is not the best machine to find gold with. You would be better off with a more advanced detector that has frequency ranging up to 40 kHz. Gold is where it's been found before. One very simple strategy that works good for me is I look to find where miners were doing digging back in the old days and if they spent a lot of time digging in an area and there's tailing piles everywhere they were getting gold therefore you know that there's gold still there and trust me they did not have metal detectors so they missed a whole bunch of it. Oftentimes you'll find gold around where there are quartz out cropping. Thank you for your view and comment /question!

Incedible machine.......i use mine exclusively on the beach and its performance is quite a shock being a single frequency unit.Use mine in beach 1,all metal,sensitivity 18,auto ground balance and 5 tones.I've found that coins give a nice rounded tone and steady numbers (although i don't take much notice of vdi's) whereas bits of mishapen aluminium give a more fuzzy tone.Depth has been excellent and its sensitivity to tiny pieces of aluminium is amazing......i doubt this wil miss much,even small jewellry will be within reach.Depth as i said is excellent in the wet sand at 18 sens but if i turn it up further it gets a bit sparky but good tones are still easy to pick out of the chatter and it will go slightly deeper still.Added bonuses are that its fully waterproof,very light,has a built in light if you want to hunt in the dark and a good backlight also.Ican't fault this machine at the moment....i haven't found anything negative so far.......even the iron discrim in the wet sand is exceptional.

With this particular machine and this is the case with many others as well there is a feature called iron audio where you can choose to hear the signals that are being discriminated out just so that you know you're in an area where there is iron. This is an especially useful feature because it helps you know that you're around where there was human occupation and therefore there could be coins or other Treasures hidden in around the area full of iron. In this video I had the iron audio on so that you could hear the iron however it's a very distinct tone that you would not Chase or dig you learn to ignore it but just know it's there. Thank you for your view and your great question!

Why do you still hear iron when you discriminated it out?
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 7 ай бұрын
Great question!!! So the discrimination is a movable number on all metal detectors. One way to think about it is where you set it simply just tells the machine where to make the split between ferrous and non ferrous to your ears. So in this video I believe I was at -6 for the discrimination that means that anything that was below that that was iron was going to sound like iron but anything that came in above that threshold would still come in on the non-ferrous or conductive side and sound like a good Target then I have to use the other techniques like listening for good constant repeatable tones and even to have those tone stay repeatable when I turn 90° on the target as well as Target IDs that are very close in the number range. So in other words some bigger iron or really rusty iron with a big Iron bloom in the ground can cause the machine to hear it because it made it past the number I set the I don't want to hear it at. Therefore you're going to hear the bigger iron and it's still there it's no different than the other smaller pieces except for it's made it through the Discrimination pattern because I probably have the number set too low for that particular piece of iron. I know this sounds very confusing you're welcome to email me at the email address and all of my videos for a better description of what I mean by this. We have to use these other techniques to guess whether it's a good Target or bad Target after it makes it past wherever I set that number at. Another thing to keep in mind is something that's really super rusting it's been in the ground for a long time has leached a lot of iron out into the soil around the object and when the detector transmits a signal into the ground you get a huge eddy current bloom off of all that rust in the dirt along with the piece of iron that is heard back on the receiver side and can make it past whatever number you have set for your discrimination based on the amount of return from the Eddy currents. A couple times in this video I did open up the screen and shut the Horseshoe off so that you could hear the iron that was at -6 or below. I hope this answered your question if not feel free to email me and thank you for watching the video and for asking a great question!

I run the sensitivity as high as I can until it's just starting to false. If it's falsing I will back sensitivity down but what you're hearing is not falsing every noise you're hearing is a piece of metal that the machine is listening to my ears over the last 35 years of metal detecting are very good at Discerning which tones are good tones and which to ignore. My technique is not for everyone in fact it's probably not advisable for most. It causes ear fatigue for the common person. But for me I don't mind it and I'm used to it. You also mentioned and maybe it's just the fact that the translation is changing the word but you said the machine is set badly. There are not very many settings on this machine in fact only a few and in this detecting trip it was set perfectly for what I was trying to accomplish the few settings that I could change were ideal In This Moment. I do appreciate you watching the video and for your comment like I said my technique is not for everyone.

Sure hope you don’t dig holes like that in a park.

Of course not but then again I don't really detect in Parks ever. Even when I'm out in the fields like in this video I do take my time to cover all my holes very carefully especially at this location is there is cattle there. Thank you for the view and for your comment! Happy New Years!

It's not easy to translate our languages. If you are asking about the size of the search coil, a bigger coil is good for coverage and depth. But not very good for using it in areas with many targets close together including trash from iron, nails, food cans, etc. A small coil is good to use in an area where you need seperation between targets but at the cost of a bit of loss of overall depth and less ground coverage per swing. As far as using the sensitivity setting on this machine it really depends on the type of soil you're in here where I live most of the soil is highly mineralized and I have to keep the sensitivity down in a little bit I just run it as high as I can without it falsing too much it's really just that simple. Thank you for watching the video and for your question!

You need a better shovel and why waste everyone's time, dig in a park and video that. And it looks like you are inexperienced yourself.

OK thank you, I'll make sure to get a good shovel. Also to not make any video in a park and also to work on getting more info experience before I go making any more videos. Appreciate the honest and precise feedback.
