进步如风人莫变could be a typo of 进步如风人莫辩, which means "lunge rapidly like the wind, the enemy/opponent cannot see/tell what your bladehand is up to". I think this would make a lot more sense.

Great demonstration! I have used this many times and it really works. Keep the shield low, to lure the spear thrust in high. Often the spear will retreat, so one must go forward very quickly, like a 100 meter sprinter starting the run.

I still don´t get how this channel does not have thousands and more of subs it deserves with the tons of info and examples!!! Beeing said that, I'm still not sold on big shield = spear game killer but, was interesting to watch the other side.

Thank you for your kind words. I wouldn’t at all say the the shield automatically shuts down the spear. In actuality the shield manual gives the advantage to the spear in the confrontation. However, this techniques are simply meant to provide a system for dealing with the spear when you have to face it.

@@thescholar-general5975 ill preface this in saying that my experience with spear is reenactment, so we disallow/ discourage -thrusts to the head/ face level -thrusts to the shins and feet -thrusts which travel in a line from lowto high to prevent them skipping and sliding into somones face/ throat these techniques are naturally a tad limited, but that said, my next move as a spearman would absolutely be to switch so the spear is aiming for the shins and feet while backpedaling/ sidestrafing like mad, and trying to expose the fact the shield s mostly covering attaccks trying to come over the head but the shield would have another move to deal with that and now we're off to the races and having a proper series of attacks and counters like most martial arts books

@@elgostine Yes going low is a good counter option for this which can actually lead to the next shield posture I will cover in the coming weeks.

Thanks for watching! What do you think of my using the Leaping Step Stance 躍步勢 as an entry to the Golden Rooster Stance 金雞畔頭勢? It is similar to your own video interpreting the 躍步勢. The spear shaft does end up in a slightly different place, but I think that the main difference would be whether or not the 躍步勢 includes an attack within the posture or it does not include an attack but is instead meant to be followed up by other attacking postures.

@@thescholar-general5975 This is a good interpretation. And I never thought these posture could be connected, I saw they're independence. Thanks your video, give me more new thoughts.

Great 👍 u really need more subscribers bc u got nice substantive vlogs. Is ur friend trained at all in spears? Bc he looks like a total noob and I'd like to see an actual spar between u guys. Also how tough were historical rattan shields? Like can they be effective vs heavier polearms. I don't know Chinese polearms well so something like halberd ax or Dane ax. These could cleave viking shields but could provide protection at other times

Great questions! Yes you are correct that my partner here is not a spear specialist. Sometime soon I hope to meet up with some proper spear focused martial artists and record sparring footage with them. Rattan shields would be fairly similar to viking era shields in terms of durability. You can cut into them, but extracting the blade is a lot more difficult. Shields would be treated with glue and painted after they were woven to give increased durability. Also more conical shields with denser weaves are much more durable than flatter ones with a more spread out weave. Ming sources record that the shields could stop arrows. . In the future I plan on making some more shields and testing their durability.

Are you planning on going through all the techniques in the manual and then chaining them together into a TaoLu, or do they only work as seperate techniques?
@thescholar-general5975
@thescholar-general5975 Жыл бұрын
Great question! I believe that these techniques are definitely meant to be strung together to an extent but I hadn’t considered doing it in a form. I have already planned a video linking many of them together, but making a form also sounds like an interesting thing to explore.

@@thescholar-general5975 I recently ran across this video. It purports to be the 32 Long Fist from General Qi's book passed down through the Qi family, but it's probably a reconstruction. It seems unlikely that it would be passed down for 400 years unchanged, but it is interesting to see it performed. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNyXeKt9uMuWo6M.html

So this negates a spear's reach, basically.

The javelin that you throw beforehand is what really negates the spear’s reach advantage, but this is a good way to quickly rush in on the opponent.

Hi can you do a 缠头裏脑 with rattan shield, I always hear that kung fu who practice dao say that using dao should be fast and dao should wrap around your body. I wonder if you use dao with rattan shield and you 缠头裏脑 wrapping around your body you will be invincible.
