The Mingda Magician X is a 3D printer specifically targeted at new users. There’s very little assembly and it has automatic bed levelling, a direct drive extruder and a colour touch screen.
In this thorough review, I’ll put it through its paces printing a range of models in a variety of filaments including PETG - not just PLA - to try and help you decide if this printer is right for you.
If you’re new to 3D printing I’d highly recommend watching at least some of my earlier video that introduces 3D printing with the budget Creality Ender 3: • Creality Ender 3 revie...

This is by far the most comprehensive look I have ever come across for this printer and I am absolutely FLOORED that it only has like 2k views as of today while the junk videos have much more. I've been watching a lot of them because my Z axis refuses to go down to the build plate. The Infrared sensor for this is definitely working because it is so consistently leveling to the same 10-ish mm off the bed. Unfortunately the printer thinks this is rock bottom so it wont obey z axis adjustments...sigh...

Thank you - really happy the video helped. Are you sure the z limit switch is not obstructed in some way? Have you contacted Mingda directly - I found their support pretty good. Good luck sorting it out.

@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks man! Definitely subscribing! The sensor isn't obstructed but I did bring it to minga's Facebook group and people have been helping me troubleshoot. The likely culprit is the latest firmware. So hopefully this comment helps someone in the future if they're struggling too.

Thank you for your review, I appreciate how thorough you were! I was wondering, since the auto-bed leveling uses the hot end tip and strain gauge, does that mean you could just put a PEI or removable magnetic sheet on and run the auto bed level with not much fuss?

No problem! Yes that will fine.

Due to the extruder mounting plate being made of aluminum, you can damage the screw holes easily and permanently, if you to take off the plastic cover a couple of times.

After 3d printing for about 3 years. I think that this is the absolute replacement for the go to ender3. That is what I started with. This from my experience this one so much easier to get started with. I have a couple of suggestions for newbs. First is investing in some Magigoo. In the beginning it was hard to get prints to stick. Obviously level the bed. Second is to draw a 100mm x 100mm x about 3 mm high square and print. You just need the first layer. As it prints go into baby stepping and start to lower the z offset until you get the layer look that you want. You can find good examples on line.

I also tried the ender pei sheet but did not fit due to the injected plastic at the front of the bed. I major jam that i attributed to heat creep because i had it in an enclosed chamber. Was quite difficult to get out.

@@TheTechnologyMan I tried that and had mixed results. I found that with magigoo I had very little problems getting tpu pla petg to stick. Still had trouble with asa though. Not really sure why but I'm working on it.

Hi! Thanks for this video I can hardly find any resources on this printer! I’ve been driving myself nuts for a few hours trying to figure out why my extruder gears are squeaking. I’ve tried greasing them, opening it up to see if filament is stuck, I cannot get it to stop squeaking 😭

Hi technology Man! How can change the nozzle in the Magician X printer? Please write me, or show in the video. Thanks, Gabor
@TheTechnologyMan
@TheTechnologyMan Жыл бұрын
Look at Prusa documentation for changing nozzle on say their Mini - it's pretty similar on this printer most likely although it's boxed away at present. Basically get the nozzle up to temp (important!), hold the heater block and unscrew the nozzle.

It's such a fast changing market. It will depend on your budget. I'm just finishing a review of the Creality K1 Max which might be worth a watch. These new enclosed, fast 3D printers are a big step up from printers like the Mingda if budget allows.

I decided to throw my Magician X out today. I´ve had nothing but troubles and failures since it came out of the box. It came with leaking hotend, faulty filament sensor that was shaving off tiny strands of the filament which gradually blocked the intake and stopped the filament from extruding. Later the hotend failed and I had to change it for a new one. Occasional firmware faults like no reaction to a press of a button or failure to lift the Z axis, this was all a common thing. The printer worked normally 2 weeks ago and today I turned it on and it failed to auto level and probe. Updating the firmware and chcecking everything didn´t help at all. Sooo...junkyard it is. These are NOT good printers. Oh, and the prints are horrible no matter how much you calibrate or adjust things.
