Welcome to our channel!
In this video, I tell you 5 reasons why you should get a mini Aussie/miniature American shepherd. This is an updated version of a previous video ( • 5 Reasons Why You Shou... )
The Miniature American Shepherd is a small herding dog that originates from America and has been provisionally recognized as a breed by the FCI since April 9, 2019. The Miniature American Shepherd was developed in California in the late 1960s by selecting small Australian Shepherds or those thought to be Australian Shepherds. If you research the pedigree of Miniature American Shepherds, there is a good chance that they also descend from important Australian Shepherd kennels, such as Las Rocosa, Flintridge, Sisler, and more. The Miniature American Shepherd is a smaller herding dog between 33 and 46 cm in size and weighs about 8 to 18 kg.
The MAS is slightly longer in body than it is high. It is a lively, flexible, and agile dog. The MAS has a medium-long coat with a thicker undercoat and, just like the Aussie, it can have all kinds of coat colors.
The MAS can have a natural short tail (natural bobtail), but can also have a long tail. In the USA, puppies with a long tail are often 'docked', which means that the tail is removed. This is prohibited in the Netherlands, so dogs with docked short tails are not allowed to participate in dog shows.
The goal of breeding MAS was to capture and preserve their smaller size, active nature, and intelligence.

About us!
We are a family of 3 - 2 Mini Aussies and me, Bibi. I am 26 years old and currently a student at Radboud University. We live in The Netherlands. I have loved animals especially dogs since I was little. I started searching for a dog at 21 after struggling with anxiety and depression. Koa came into my life at 22 and he was the best thing to ever happen to me. I don't know what I would do without him.
Koa, red merle male, was born on January 15th, 2020 in the Netherlands, just before Covid-19 started. He is a mama's boy❤️. Loves agility and trick training. He is the best dog I could have asked for as my first dog. He comes with me everywhere and we have already experienced so much together.
Maui, red tri female, was born on June 2nd, 2022 in Budapest, Hungary. She is the perfect addition to our family. I got her with the purpose of breeding her for my kennel Koa's Ohana. She is currently still too young, but we are hoping, if all her health tests are good, to have our first litter in 2024/2025🤞. She loves to play with her toys and we are training for upcoming shows.
Please follow us to learn more about our family and follow our journey. Traveling, doing dog sports, breeding, and enjoying life!

We call them Aussies in the States. I have a Aussie doodle (standard). Hands down the BEST dog I’ve ever had.

Fun to watch. Your babies are so sweet. Thank you for sharing. We had a mini aussie for 11 yrs. Was the best friend we ever had. We have been looking for another one close to him. We got him at 3 yrs old, he had a great life. Watching your video really gives me hope to have another mini aussie. 🤩

Well done. Excellent points! I only wish MAS with tails were more widely available here in the U.S. Your dogs and their long, sweeping tails are beautiful and they clearly have a wonderful home, particularly given your interest in lifelong learning and training. Thanks!

I am looking at this breed and definitely prefer one with a tail, there are breeders here in the US but harder to find.

We also had a MAS. I've had a variety of dogs in my 80 years, and he was the best. So smart! He learned the names of a hundred or so toys. I would hide them around the house. If I wanted to sit quietly for a moment, I could get him some exercise by sending him out to find the toys by name. Of course he did it at top speed. I miss him so much.

How do you travel with them? My girl I get at 8 weeks on the 25th her mom is 20 pounds and her dad is 15 so wondering if it’s feasible to just carry her on a plane?

Hi! Congratulations on your puppy😊! I have personally never flown with them. I have taken them on roadtrips to Spain and Croatia for example, which some were 24 hours of driving. But I live in Europe so I did not have to fly. I also have taken them on buses and trains. My dogs are around 30 pounds so that makes it a bit harder, especially because in Europe we have a lot of rules for dogs in airplanes. But if she is a puppy I definitely think this is possible. Just look at the rules for the airline. They usually have a weight limit, most are around the 8-10kg (17-20.5 lbs) here in Europe. So that should even make it possible for you to travel with her when full grown if she stays within those limits. And they usually have a rule that the dog should fit in a carrier that can fit under the seat. They have special dog carriers that comply with airplane rules. Good luck!
