As well as that mate if they'd bothered watching this video properly instead of just having a go at you they'd clearly of seen you removing the new bolts from their packaging it was clear as day to see. None of the criticisms I've seen on this video are justified you've done a grand job of this car just a shame a few sour keyboard warriors are seeing fit to try and bring you down. Keep your head held high James you're quality all the best a Loyal appreciative subscriber not going anywhere 👌

You are teachin not just yourself but many many others. Fed up watching folks with 2 post lifts, Air tools and covered premises, you are the real deal. Keep up the good work, MDL

So glad I came across your channel! You deserve all the credits of the world for the way you present the work to be done and do the actual work. I have myself a 2003 Cooper S with 193 k KM which needs I'm afraid BIG work: cylinder 1 with NO compression, knocking sound when I start the engine, yet all valves 'look' ok when I removed the valve cover. Further investigation is needed. Thank you for the guidance you already provided me with your videos!

Excellent work again there. May I recommend that you turn the crank by 2 full turns (the crank shall turn 1 full turn) to check that the timing marks all align and that there's no valve to piston contact. The mark on the timing chain will move of course but this test will reduce this risk. Keep up the good work, very enjoyable to watch.

Hopefully when you mullered the top of the spark plug tunnels they won't knacker the new seals when cam cover is installed, check the plug tunnels for oil after a run. Otherwise top job. Good videos, keep up the good work James. We all learn or are reminded as we go, great value for all of us.

There was clearance between the tubes and the seals as is normal for this engine. The top of the plug lead is what makes the seal. in other words. It'll be fine.

When you do the torque wrench 🔧 you gotta stop literally as it clicks. By going that little extra bit after the click you could be adding on say 10% more..... Eg 44nm instead of 40, or 110nm instead of 100nm It probably won't matter but better safe.
@Riyazatron
@Riyazatron 5 жыл бұрын
@Kris Nicholson simple spring torque wrenches like the one used do add extra torque. You will over torque
@Riyazatron
@Riyazatron 5 жыл бұрын
@Kris Nicholson exactly. The click part is the spring giving way. However the head is still attached to the arm. Therefore you can still generate a force where your hand is and over that length, a torque. Also going over the same bolt after the click isn't right. But it is minor. The whole thing can be ignored if your tool hasn't been calibrated in a while. Most companies do it yearly. All depends how you store the wrench.
@steve0680657
@steve0680657 5 жыл бұрын
@Kris Nicholson he went further that the 'play' that is literally the few degrees as it clicks. Watch again. And once it's clicked that's the 'play' of the click action gone....further turning = more torque.

Glad to see there wasn't a woodruff for the cam sprocket, good job you really shouldn't keep turning the torque wrench after the initial click as it's still applying torque and would be like using a breaker bar instead, I would also invest in an torque angle gauge they cost pennies and are more accurate than the eye

Are you going to crank the engine over a couple of times by hand after this I would do it on the starter with the plugs out . I would use cheap oil and change it say after 100 miles then refill with good stuff . Does the cooling system need flushing out as well , good job well done.

I saw the New head bolts you got in the white card board box (that came with the head gasget) watch the whole series in future. General note. The 90 deg turn stretches the bolt and changes the metal structure in the bolt. (Thats the reason you always use new bolts).

@spiked4735
@spiked4735 5 жыл бұрын
Because even a stationary crank in an engine torn down this way requires a good bit of force to turn. Plus the chain held with the bungee cord means he knows it hasn't moved because the chain will be snug on the crank sprocket.
