Thanks for the post guys. Saved my car and wallet 700 bucks. Just a mention for those who missed it. On the 2002, all you need is a 10mm and 13mm sockets, a thick tipped phillips head, a ratchet, ratchet extention and a flat head. Some pliers to squeeze the hose clamp help as well.

You guys are rockstars. Great video. Because of this video, it took me approximately 30 minutes to replace. I bought the part at Autozone for $89.00 Taking the time to go thru this whole process, step by step to help others, makes a heck of a statement on your great character. You saved me hundreds of dollars and the hassle of dropping it off 40 miles away and picking it up. Thanks!!

Awesome advice about the pins, what an easy change out. I used the TYC brand fan for about $85 and reused the better fan attachment bolts from the old fan to make it a little stronger since there are some complaints about after market fans not being put together so well. Thanks again.

You and I have tha same cooling fans but I got it for 83.09 free shipping @ Amazon thanks for sharing! I got tha Bentley publishes book and they don't have anything on the cooling fans. Just as cooling fan and cooling fan cowl are removed as a unit. But not on how to proceed. Guessing on why they don't have that step-by-step? it's common knowledge but heck working with tiny mini coopers are such a pain lol! Mine is why over 203,000 miles the fan it's been working on high speed for 2 years ; I started a tune up and timing chain n sprockets; tensioner, belt , alternator. it's running like a mini champ* I need to buy a camera so I can record some vids. 😜

Listen my friend, it depends on what year you have there's more to it that's shown in this guys video. He'll get you 90% there but give you just enough information to break Really important plastic parts. On my 03 it was hanging up at the point where he took off the top hose, I didn't have any vertical room to maneuver the shroud up and down, I had to take off the left bumper bar down bottom to get the room needed. The fan on the 03 is big, and another thing he never filmed was how to fit it behind the shroud up against the radiator. I ended up having to replace the shroud too because the last owner super glued the shroud in a half a dozen places and it just fell apart when I got it free. Apparently he took the fan out and probably watched a video like this. But, to this video makers credit, in the beginning of this he says make sure you have your service manual. After I found a junkyard mini that wasn't mauled and got the whole shroud it was a pain in the ass but I got her in exactly how it's supposed to be. I also replaced all the stupid plastic push through pieces with nuts bolts and washers. It went much smoother because I just put them all in place loosely and adjusted and tightened until it was in the correct place and all lined up properly. Good luck brother, but give yourself more time to do this job than you think it's going to take!

Hell yeah! Thanks for the video, guys. Really well done as everything is show step-by-step. I did this today and bought a $70 Doorman fan. I was stubborn so I didn't disconnect the radiator hose and had to forcefully wiggle the fan out. I also took off the top left rubber piece that restricts the movement of the radiator assembly (you can just pull it off and push it back on as it's bendable. Putting the new fan back in was A LOT easier and I was really happy with this as I was expecting another hour or so of trying to shoehorn it in. I guess you don't need the cable ties and fasteners for the new cable? This saved me $600, that's the main reason why I am willing to work on my own car. :)

as a general comment for the later R55/R56 mini S cars! replacing the fan is much much easier! "no need to remove anything other then the coolant bottle, charge-pipe, turbo heat shield & the fan itself" jack car up on 1 side (at the front) buy replacement fan unit (without the shroud) remove the coolant bottle (slight amount of coolant) remove the charge pipe (turbo cold side) infront of turbo theirs 1 screw on the top of the fan (attaching to shroud) remove this... at the bottle, again another screw (remove this) once done undo the electrical connector rotate the fan housing counter clockwise (2 small clips in the fan housing etc) once that's done, simply lower the fan through the bottom of the engine bay, just move the coolant hoses out the way (nothing more is required) to refit a new fan its just in reverse... the job itself takes no more then 30 minutes just remember to bleed the coolant of the slight amount of air that's now in the system.....

Labor i thinkis 2 hrs. Took me 45 min. Remove front bumper. Not hard. 10 mm socket, phillips screwdriver.extension, ratchet. Detach upper radiator to radiator. Maybe 6 -8 bolts hold aluminum bumper thats behind plastic bumper. Not hard. 2 plastic pins hold radiator at top, then tilt radiator,45 deg, can slide out fan assembly. Fan Connector is drivers side, by a/c charge port. (2 plugs). Car i did , fan continueid running, there was resistor bad and its in between from fan motor to plug. Located on passenger side top of fan assemnly. :) i replaced fan unit. Comes with all that. Also a relay is beside it hidden. Maybe couldve soldered a new one but who knows what suposd to go in its place...anyway

Nice video. Question: When I try to slide the ac cooler out of the way as you did in the video, it wants to bind and not move very far. It seems like the metal lines going into it won't let it move as far as you did. Did you undo some of the retainers farther back in on the ac refrigerant lines to get yours to move so freely?

Dude where are your reinforcement locator alinement pin plates ? With out them the whole front assembly might not be square ie your bumper will sit slightly off and not line up with the bonnet and mid quarter panel resulting in possible rubbing of painted edges.
@timbrett15324 жыл бұрын
It's a tiny bit hopeful however you should have tested the fan before you put everything back together!!! Now one thing you must now have known, check your power steering ran FIRST!!! If that little fan isn't working for whatever reason(mainly because they get SUPER dirty), the radiator fan won't run. Check you fuses too!! If your Power steering fan is dirty try engine cleaner. I got mine moving freely & working GREAT!!! Make a vented sheet metal guard for your power steering pump fan. I'm betting the new radiator fan didn't work because it wasn't the issue, it was your power steering pump fan or a fuse!!

No need to drain the coolant when replacing the radiator fan...just need to pinch the upper hose when disconnecting for access to your radiator fan ✌🕶🔧
