Thank you, an excellent instructional video, and as mentioned by others it allowed me to ensure that I had all of the correct tools without having to look myself. This job only took me about 15 mins from start to finish (I had just finished replacing the door actuator/solenoid on the the other door so knew how to take the door card off) and I managed to obtain a good 2nd hand door brake/strap including delivery for £15. Now I can get in and out of the car without the door constantly closing on me.

I appreciate this little video. I was told this was a pain in the arse of a job and it put me off, but it's dead easy. It's reassuring to know its really simple like I thought it might be! Right, I'll get some check straps ordered.

Strangely in my case the door opens wider and wider right up to the max then the strap jams in some way preventing the door from closing even partially! Temporary fix was to remove from the A Pillar

Aup mate, just came here to check if others are missing a gasket that mine was. Yours seems to be missing the same gasket boot? I noticed because I have water ingress on my speaker and it's coming from the door brake. Just a heads up, I'm guessing Mini have added this part sneakily into their system as a revision of design
