The 2016 Cooper base model doesn't have as much space to grip the bulb connector harness. You need to completely remove the headlight. Another brilliant British design. Gotta love you Brits. 🤣 You certainly make convoluted cars. 👍

Even better... To properly grip the electrical pinch connector from behind the bulb, you have to unbolt the headlight from the harness. But three of the four bolts screw into a pinched nut dampening connector, where the nut is "secured" in place by a metal cover that is supposed to hold the nut so that you can unscrew the bolt. But since that holder is useless, the bolt free spins with no way to grip it since the holder acts as a shield to the nut. This leaves you with the only option of breaking the seal on the top nut harness, using vice grips to hold the nut in place, and unscrewing the bolt. Mind you, this requires using pliers to bend the metal shield back, so that it uncovers the nut that you'll use a vice grip to hold onto, while you then unscrew the bolt from the nut. The one common sense bolt that actually screws into a metal frame, simply unscrews with a socket wrench. Once you have loosened the bottom bolts (mind you that you'll never tighten those again) then you can lift the headlight up, use pliers, shatter the plastic wire harness that holds the metal pinch connectors so that you can pull out the connectors separately, since none of them were pushed in with dielectric grease in order to prevent the metal fusion to have ever happened in the first place. After you do that, the rest of the instructions on this video apply. Just reconnect the pinch connectors to the bulb, one by one, after the installation. Secure the top two bolts of the headlight, one with the nut you had to use a vice grip for, and then tell your wife that if she hears any rattling in the hood, it's probably just the bottom two loose bolts on the headlight, and not to worry because the top two are secured very tightly. And then tell her to forward any complaints to BMW for making the most pain in the butt car on the planet. Cheers.
