Miniature Basing / Re-basing with Clear Acrylic Bases

Күн бұрынI'm a big fan of clear acrylic bases, sometimes they can totally save you a huge hassle of making your bases match the terrain - especially with highly detailed boards with changing types below the feet!
In this video, I show how i get my miniatures off their bases and stick them on these clear little wonders.

I love how quick and easy clear bases made basing my Zombicide miniatures! Does anyone else have any games this works or would work really well for?

a trick : you can watch series on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies lately.

I really like the idea on dropping the base size! I'd glue them and put a pin in from underneath probably not needed but it's pvc to acrylic. I used some acrylic bases to re-base Descent 2nd heroes. The edges were faceted also had hard edges I had to sand/buff them smooth worth checking the quality before buying.

Yeah the drop in base size is what seals the deal on going to this effort in this game for me. Made a big difference on full maps to how easy it is to fit. Yeah, I consider pinning too but it’s a lot more effort and risks messing up more. Having played 10s of games with my changed bases only one zombie has come off the base and he was dropped on a tiled floor. Just quickly re-glued and he was good to go again!

Ive worked with acrylic often. Flame polishing is very easy and it makes the edge clear rather than light. Fyi

I do this for shadows of brimstone since the minis don't come on a base. I never thought to do it to my zombicide minis or that it's a good idea to go with a smaller base! Great video and now I'm wishing I'd based all my SoB minis with a slightly smaller base!

Oooh a game that doesn’t come based - that’s a good time to use the clear bases, great idea! Yeah down sizing the bases was the biggest reason that made me switch the bases out! So much nicer on the board now :-D

Michael Glass I also used clear bases for my Shadows of Brimstone before selling the whole lot (that game was a nightmare). I liked the game, but it needs a serious streamlining. Too many dice, to much creature creep, too much of a pain to put together and base the minis (talking about the first core sets and 10 or so small box expansions I had at the time).

Looks amazing! Is there any risk of the acrylic clouding around the feet using the Super glue?

There is a slight clouding if you use too much. I just put a little on each foot and nothing goes outside of the "footprint".

Exactly what Michael said! Just use as little as you can. In now 70ish zombies I have a little clouding on maybe two of them

Nice video! I've been thinking of doing this with my Mansions of Madness minis (great game but horrible bases). Any input on the hold this method has? Do you think there is any danger of the bases breaking off when stored in the box? Thank you.

Hmmm... was thinking I should do this for Dark Rituals. Would look and work perfect for that game. Except that most of the figures have huge either connections to the base or multiple spindly or odd connections. Seems like the chances of damaging one would be high.

I done this with my Mansions Of Madness as the bases were way too big fir the play area.. I just keeps the stat cards to the side when needed.

I haven’t actually, I chose not to so they stand out a bit more. I did consider it and it would be just as easy to switch - just personal choice.

How about miniatures that have a large connection to the base? Like those cthulhu death may die monsters

The larger CMON miniatures are normally glued to their bases and have some pegs. You can normally carefully pry them away from the base

I am surprised that plastic glue works. Is that a huge selfhealing mat from Army painter?

It was just normal superglue. I’d be scared plastic glue would mist/melt the base. Yeah giant TAP mat! Looks nice on my desk :/)

Are these minis glued with plastic glue that melts the plastic together or are them glued with super glue?

How do you prevent any 'clouding' from the glue?

I didn’t! I used a very small amount of glue and there was a very small amount of clouding. Some glue might be better than others, I can hardly see any clouding on my guys

I get a foggy look when gluing onto clear... how are you getting away without cloudy from super glue?

I don’t! But I use the smallest amount of glue I can, don’t have it squig out from under the foot. If you look from underneath mine you’ll see two tiny fogs directly under the feet but no further. Hope this can help!

I heard that acrylic bases make it brittle and not as durable.

Not quite sure exactly what they meant. It’s not going to be as strong as leaving them on the original base, but I’ve switched the bases for my whole game. It’s been three years. I play Zombicide more than any game and in all that time one zombie came off the base - we dropped him on a tiled floor. We’ve dropped them tons and it only happened once. And the fix was just a new blob of glue on his feet and popped him back on the base that came off! That definitely wouldn’t happen if we didn’t switch the bases, but I don’t really see it as a big issue! Hope this helps! :-)

So weird! When I watched it after you commented, it stuttered twice, then was fine the rest of the video. Playing through a second time and it's not stuttering at all now! :-/ KZfaq problem?

Sounds like a KZfaq or internet problem. Not a single stutter for me and I watched this on my cell phone w/o wifi on.
