I love how you geek out about this stuff, Bo. One of the main reasons I got so hooked on your channel. That, and your calming voice. You're just all about it. I haven't been musically inspired in a long time, but you're reigniting my synth obsession, about 20 years after the initial fact. Thanks. :)

Really appreciate that this first look was relatively "raw"! Not sure I would have the courage to post a video where I totally forgot to save the patch 😅 but that's a large part of what makes your content so enjoyable and relatable. Cheers Bo, hope you have lots and lots of fun with your new synth, can't wait to get my own.

I think that’s the most excited I’ve ever seen you 😬 Sounds good! More sound creation, some workflow from scratch building into a groove with some other kit would be interesting to see. There’s something about the capabilities of this synth which combines with the form factor to just make sense. It really feels like an evolution of the Minilogue. A good thing as it would probably have been easy to go too far with new features that didn’t really add anything. Really a great synth for those just starting out as well as anyone wanting a complete package. It deserves to be hugely popular.

Sounds huge. Was going to get a Minilogue but went for the XD when it was announced. Seems like they are different enough to have both rather than just an upgrade on the original. Seems like the digital Osc opens up a huge range of sounds. Hyped for mine to arrive now.
@benjwgarner
@benjwgarner 3 жыл бұрын
That's how KORG's business model works. They left out features from the XD that the original has to try to get you to buy both. Same issue with the Prologue. Everything that they make is intentionally crippled in some way so that you can't buy just one, even on the high end, that does everything. Yamaha does the same thing. It doesn't make me want to buy both, it makes me want to buy neither. Hopefully someone like Behringer comes along and eats their lunch; it would serve them right.

It's hard to know how to get from a boring beep to a lush appreciated soundscape. I'd like to see some more of that kind of info. Minor criticism, please try to arrange your lighting so it doesn't glare onto the small display screen on the right. Thanks!

I'm currently looking for my first hardware synth, and this has been tempting me so much despite being way over my original budget. I'm sitting at 4:00 in the video and saying to myself "Okay this sounds amazing, and has all the features you want.. but maybe you should just get something cheaper like the MS-101. Plus, the MS-101 can do that lovely 303 bass." ...and then 4:35 happens. Damn it. Now I'm seriously reconsidering said budget.

But, at least when I tried this on the Prologue, you can gain stage the drive in the mixer. So while you don’t have a drive knob you can moderate the amount beyond 0/50/100 by using the mixer.

That thing looks gorgeous in black. I'm so glad they got rid of that cheap slider. That's one thing I really dislike about my Monologue. Every time I touch it, I wish I hadn't because it feels like I'm going to break it. To be honest, the Minilogue when I demoed it a few years ago didn't impress me that much. It sounded good but I didn't like it enough for the price. Hearing the first few minutes of this, though, it makes me want to throw my Monologue in the trash and pick one of these up (I have several monosynths and the Korg is probably the first one to go if I were to get rid of one). I'd love to have the sounds and polyphony of this, but I'll have to wait to see if the price ever drops, or maybe pick up one used. Seems like a very nice improvement over the original. Great demo! Thanks!

Delay and reverb at the same time...whoa! I was wondering too if it had that capability like my Deepmind-12. I'm really liking this little synth more and more although I've been recommending people to get the Deepmind-6 instead for the same price, full size keyboard and more voices. If I had to choose between the two it'd be difficult or I'd get both if my pockets were deep enough.

Hello Bo, I'm a long time watcher, first time "commenter" really enjoyed the vid and patches/demo, I have the minilouge and love it, but this defiantly had me thinking about the xd! I'd really like to see a video of them both together not so much of a side by side comparison than have them both synced up together with the mkI run through the xd and the fx section and or just layered together, I think the xd has quite a different flavour with just the filter re-design and is enough to make them a really strong combo? Thanks, A

Hey I looked at a couple of your vids, which are very informative. I'm pretty new to synths and so maybe this is gonna be a silly question. I decided to get myself the Korg minilogue XD. I have a pair of KRK studiomonitors at home that I wanna hook the minilogue XD up to. Now, the KRK monitors have only a balanced TRS 1/4 inch input (and not an TS input). And If I am right, I have to put an unbalanced TS 1/4 inch jack cable in the Minlogue XD output. Can I put the TS jack of that cable in the balanced TRS input of my KRK speakers ? It would be great if you could help me out with this. I'm scared that i might damage something if I put an TS jack cable in an TRS balanced input of the speakers.

Hi Bo! And thanks for all these preset videos. I would like to ask you for advice, given that you also reviewed the Minifreak: the Minilogue XD has an analogue "base" with a third digital oscillator, the sounds seem full and "real" to me, the interface is immediate, the design is classic and awesome, but I struggle with the presets, they sounds good but are very standard, nothing goes "out of the box". I find that the Minifreak on the other is slightly less convincing as a "pure sounds" (if you play a wave without any effects), it seems a little less profound/vibrating to me, but it has really beautiful presets, complex and pleasant, they're very interesting even without having to process them in DAW with other effects. Minifreak is "ready made", Minilogue is a "classic". Which one would you recommend for those who move between electronic / IDM / ambient / glitch (let's say from Floating Points to Max Cooper)? Thank you very much.

Awesome video! Could you do a mash-up between the old a d the new minilogue.. maybe jamming with them both through midi?

Yes, this is a great idea. I will be able to do this soon for my self, but I’m probably not gonna make a video. It would be nice to see and hear a side by side comparison of both OG & XD and a sync jam.

Thank you, for all great tutorial but I've a big issue: If I turn off Local SW and using minilogue XD Sound track in Logic, the sequencer don't work properly: it generates only a short noisy sound, and the joystick goes out of control, if I use it. Instead, if I use minilogue minilogue XD midi out with lLocal SW on, my minilogue work properly (no problem with sequencere and joystic), but midi track doesn't send signal to minilogue if I want listen what ?ve just recorded in MIDI track. Could you help me? I'm going crazy. Thank's PS I use MAC, with Catalina, without any Korg drivers, as Korg recommends
