This is a tongue in cheek look at some of the minimalism "rules" that I do not vibe with. I'd love it if you have a watch and let me know whether you agree with me or not. I don't mind if you dont, as long as you are respectful.
Minimalism and decluttering are often used interchangeably but they do not mean the same thing. Decluttering is the removal of excess clutter, nothing more, nothing less. Minimalism is a mindset, a philosophy that permeates all aspects of our lives, and decluttering is just one aspect of minimalism.

My mum generated clutter, my husband generated clutter, as a result spent most of my adult life battling it as I love nice clear spaces. Following the death of husband suddenly found myself generating my own clutter which did actually distress me. Somebody I was talking to suggested it was an unconscious effort to return to a safe space. That resonated so now trying to be kinder to myself when things get untidy. Surprising what life circumstances can do to you 😃

I'm so sorry for your loss. and i agree, i think you were unconsciously generating clutter after his passing due to missing him as well, not only because it felt safe. I think i also feel safe(r) in clutter and hoarded stuff, but i am able to tidy things up if i have to. sometimes i just want to. yet, it can't stay uncluttered for more than 15 minutes. i have no idea how u.u i blame it on the 4 cats [and recently 2 dogs] we call our babies/children.

Some of your reactions are just priceless! ("I can't come out today, I'm going to stay home and play with my things.") 😂😂 It's true, minimalism should work for us, not the other way around, especially if we're looking for some kind of freedom or to lighten ourselves up.

Claire, you're perfectly right about the beige and hotel room, there is no personality, all pictures I see are so interchangeable, nothing individual. And such all-white kitchens - oh my, they must be really thoroughly cleaned to look halfway as good as on those pictures. One can use other light, soft colours, your kitchen is a nice, good example 🙂 Very wise thoughts in this video, highly recommended for all "minimalism-victims"! 😉🤗🙏

I am overwhelmed with clutter which I am working at, but I believe I need to do something enjoyable as hobbies, sewing, art, etc. to be happy.

You should do whatever your heart desires. It’s just about having your supplies under control. From here on in, I will personally only buy for a specific project rather than ooh that’s pretty let’s buy all the things lol 😂

I completely agree with the white/beige hotel room comment. In saying that, I don’t get the opportunity to go on holidays so I purposely made my common areas just like a hotel so I could pretend holiday all year round. It’s not for everyone but it makes me happy

I know where you are coming from Claire. My eldest son is a natural minimalist but it holds no appeal to me at all. I reckon the main reason he is able to live like that is because if needs something like tools or extra bedding or whatever he comes next door me, who keeps everythinq, for it. Its not his pristine back yard that is parking all the farm machinery. Its mine! I do like personality and colour in a home and forget rules too.

I've asked myself What would I buy if I won the lottery? All I can think of is a 3/8 stubby ratchet. I like the junk I have, it isn't fancy but it is bought and paid for......I earned it. I just need to organize it now....... tHnaks for the video

Lets see, Vintage Battleship game...stays, Red plastic straws I'm saving to make a chain for the Christmas tree...yeah they stay, A book about milkshakes and how the nutrition in the strawberries will save the planet. Definite keeper, A stack of unpaid bills for utilities, taxes, and car payments.....Yeah, all that can go.

I don't like these rules either. Hey, an idea for a video: products you finished. Most other youtubers call these videos "empties of the month" or something.

@@Lifebyclairevlogs It is related to your channel's theme: you use the product until it's over and only then you replace it. buying ahead of time can create clutter. but also not having extras can be problematic - look at what happened in 2020, lol. this is also a good topic to consider for a video. ;p yay! i'm happy you replied :D

There are no rules, just diff veiwpoints.

Not official but there are definitely “rules” (or guidelines) that extreme minimalists expect each other to live by. Ideally though we all do our own thing.
