You need a rectangle gun patch. Some Hurricans had yellow on the leading edge outboard of the outer gun patch, that might be cool. Now how about your artistic tallent and have some gun smoke streek marks and painted case ports under the wing, just for fun 🙂 All in all, great progress.

Thanks! It’s good to be getting this far along right now! Good ideas!

It looks super good indeed. Machine gun cover is great idea. You should have glued-in false barrels on both sides. It would be really nice. In fact, machine guns were taped over in real life too. By ground crew during pre-flights/re-arms to prevent debris from entering barrels during taxi and takeoff.

Hey Dennis! How are you mate?! My name is Raphael, and I live in Brazil. I am watching your fantastic building since the beginning. Congratulations! I am also building a Himax, and I am using the material I have available in my country. I see that you are using Douglas fir instead of spruce. If you don’t mind I have a few questions: did you reduce the size of the wood due to the use of a heavier wood? My ribs looks so “skinny” comparing to yours: was it made of 1/4 x 1/4 wood? By the way: the manual recommends the use of UV barrier before painting: what kind of material are you using? Thank you very much, and again: congratulations for your excellent job!

Hi Raphael! I could have tested the wood against spruce and then reduced the size by that factor but I chose to stick with the original dimensions. I estimate that I paid about a 15lb weight penalty for that but obviously gained a lot of strength. My ribs are 1/4x1/4. I’m using one of the best exterior latex acrylic paints. I figure if it’s designed to be on the outside of a house every day for 20 years then my hangered airplane will be fine:)

Many years ago I had a mini max with a mosler engine on it and a "fighter jet" style canopy. Never got to fly it cuz it had an electrical issue (turned out to just be a bad condenser) and i headed to Afghanistan for a year. What kind of paint are you using? Please let me know what your doing for the painting sequence.....any UV protection? Thanks

I’m using Behr Marquee exterior paint. The best you can get at Home Depot. My formula is simple, 200g of Paint, 12g of Flotrol, and 30g of windshield washer fluid. The paint is my only UV protection.

@@DTMinimax And that's likely all the UV protection you'll ever need. Someone once covered a one foot square frame with the same material you're likely using, and set it outside, 24/7. He punch tested it every year. It finally failed after seven years of constant exposure, and even then, he suspected a dog had peed on it at some point. 😂
