Mining gold off the clay bottom and striking big!

Dad and I are over for another mining trip, we start the trip by visting and awesome dredging operation and seeing an insane amount of gold before heading up to another site on the clay bottom to see if we can find some good colour ourselves.

On two of your different sluicing spots in this video, I notice that your sluice is not level sideways. This could cause the gold to pile up at the lower side of the box, in the corner of the riffle, and you could possibly lose some gold if it overflows the riffle at the tailing end of the box. However, because you are sluicing in only a few hours in each spot, having a sideways level box is probably not so important, but I always ensure my sluice is level sideways so there's no build-up of material along one side. (Ah ha! You mention this later in this video, that you will level your sluice in future operations).

Cheers bro, yeah rookie mistake by us this time, hopefully didn't cost us any gold but your right one of the most important things is having it level. Appreciate the feedback and definitely gotta check a bit more in future so we don't stuff it up again, just got too distracted by the gold to bother doubling checking lol. Thanks heaps for watching!

Keep going in the kettle hole. It's formed by turbulence and is being agitated while the water was flowing in it and the gold will settle on the bottom quickly.

Awesome video and it is super cool to see ya dad back up the river with a shovel..... not sure how he went with the "Can -a- Bucket" tho 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ lol ..... As for the Hokitika Gorge .... I wanna know how much GOLD is sitting beneath that bridge

I knew as soon as I saw the colour of this that it was the Hoki gorge. I lived at Kokatahi for a while and it was one of my favourite places.

Nice run. Blue clay in my area is the best for gold the my area . That place looks like there could be a crazy amount of gold . Looking forward to seeing what you find next. Heavy pans boys

I see you are using a Keene A52 super sluice. What do you think of it pros cons? I am looking to buy a sluice and this one seems to move a lot of material but it’s expensive in the USA 435 dollars with legs and classifier

Hi Bro, thanks heaps for watching! If you aren't walking very far and in a decent sized creek and just going to shovel one spot all day and can set the sluice up near, its a total beast, the best sluice you can buy, however its not the most practical due to its size and flow required, we would say only 50% of the time we are sluicing its viable or even possible to set up the A52, however when it is set up the most effective sluice both in speed and recovery we have! I would say its not the best sluice to start off with as a starter, I would say a more medium sized sluice would be better, however once you master that and get onto some good ground where a big sluice would be very handy the A52 is the go.
