Minirig 3 with the Minirig subwoofer in a 1.1 system. Trying to see how much difference adding a subwoofer makes to the Minirig 3 .The Minirig 3 is a portable Bluetooth speaker while the subwoofer is wired only and connects directly to the minirig. Includes sound tests.
In also need to correct some wrong info. David the owner of Minirig got in touch with me to say regards the tuning, it is tuned to take account of all listening positions and because most people listen off-axis they have taken that into account. However I still wouldnt have changed the recordings to this point because i want to measure as accurately as possible the actual sound of the speaker in isolation. However the point is they now say the treble does take into account off-axis listening. It is also true that the minirig support twice told me it didnt :) Also the subwoofer is 30 watts not 15 watts as I said. I read that off their specs page which says +15w but the actual amplifier in the manual is 30 watts.

Hi Alan - it was the ‘fidelity ‘ portable player . You locked the stylus so you could carry like a large piece of hand luggage briefcase ha ha . Plus I had my vinyls case . I was like a walking music centre . Like you say ....I just remember stuff sounding great ! Maybe we are more critical ..... but I never remember any of my systems sounding boxy or covered .... I hate a covered sound . 🎶😱 Well enjoy the MiniRigs until the next best thing ....we’ll see what comes out this Spring . 😆⭐️ 🎶 I am going to keep with A1’s for a bit so I can really get use to them as they do sound amazing ..... but obviously not as punchy as the Beolit 17 but the wide stereo sound is detailed and fun and they sound full at low volume 🎶C

@alanrossreviews

the sub works well with both the mk2 and mk3. actually its hard to listen to the mk3 without the sub for me, it adds warmth. once you have heard the mk3 the mk2 is hard to go back to because it lacks the dynamic sound of the mk3. however the mk3 is a sharper brighter sound so you will have to like that. you do get to embed eq with the mk3 which you cant with the mk2. the mk3 maybe more tiring over a long listen than the mk2. its a personal thing and i still have not made my mind up which setup i prefer.

Had fun with these reviews =) If the minirigs are always going to be at home, it could be worth considering studio monitors and a studio sub =) The minirig has always been for me hanging while I walk on my side or by my stomach , get quiite good response that way when your outside, always wished for more sub as hate the way it cuts the bass off at such a low volume, it could definitely go louder without that cut off, shame the sub needs a cable, it's good that it goes to 57 hz, shame the 450 hz area is where the cut off is, thats huge, my monitors at home go down to 45hz, bought a sub that goes to 30hz, can really appreciate music with good low end. That increase from 45hz to 30 hz is huge, so it's hard to know if that 57hz is worth it completely. Would of loved to of had a minirig on left and right with stereo and a sub on the waist, it's a lot of money, 1 minirig is better than none, if you keep the volume low enough, the bass doesn't cut off so you still get good clarity, it's almost as clear as a proper rig in a party, as close as it gets to having a studio monitor really for something that's so small :) If you got the money it's worth having the lot, if you can't afford, worth getting 1. You can really tell the difference in the audio recordings aswell, it's nice :)

Thank you for your content. You have by far the most comprehensive Minirig information I have come across. I have a problem I hope you could help me with and that could potentially increase your viewership. I am a truck driver(lorry?) and I essentially live in my company truck. The stereo is not good enough for music mainly because it does not go below 65hz and the directional speakers are in a terrible location. I am not allowed to modify the truck including the radio and/or speakers. I would like to have a pair of Minirigs on my dashboard and a home theater subwoofer in the truck bunk. I need (ok just want) 35hz before dropping off so the Minirig sub isn’t going to be an option. Your videos about Minirigs suggest that they could be a solution to my problem because they have a subwoofer out ability. I have a perfect spot for a subwoofer in my truck, a large built in power inverter to plug the subwoofer into, and already own a subwoofer that I’m not using. Have you ever plugged a large home subwoofer into your Minirigs? If yes, does the Minirig’s DSP limit the lowest frequencies sent to the subwoofer or would it send 35hz and lower thumps to the subwoofer? I have done hours of searching on KZfaq and Google and no one has addressed the external sub question directly. Minirig’s website kinda sorta maybe suggests that it is possible, but I would really like to know before I buy more stuff that might or might not solve my problem. Maybe you would consider doing a video where you plug a home music and theater subwoofer into your Minirigs. I could totally see a lot of people wanting a set of omnidirectional speakers on their desks with an affordable home subwoofer on the floor next to the desk. Sorry for the length of this message. Cheers.

I havent tried this. In theory you should be good to go because the out on the minirig should essentially be a passthrough of the whole signal. Theory and practice don't always match of course 😊

@@alanrossreviewsFor sure! I'm worried that there is dsp built into the app and/or Minirig speaker that would regulate the low frequency to a limit suitable to the Minirig brand subwoofer. Do you think I could get an accurate response from Minirig directly? This seems like a type of question where they will assume that I'm an idiot and then send me an answer to a question they think I meant to ask. I've been using JBL Flip 4s with the Connect app and it's so wonky that it makes me wonder if I'm the subject of some bizarre experiment. Anyhoo, if you make a video about it, I'm pretty sure you will be traveling in unexplored territory and guarantee you will get at least one like. ;-)

It's great that you compare to the closest equivalent JBL. Now with the newer releases, what would you recommend? -A Minirig Sub 3 along with 2x Minirig Mk3 -Or a JBL Xtreme 3? -And compared to JBL Boombox 2? I know from reviews that the Minirig 2.2 setup surprisingly sounds better and louder than the gigantic Boombox 2, but what about the 2.1 setup, with only one subwoofer? Also I have a question about the Minirig setup: I will use it only with AUX (no Bluetooth). Is it possible to keep the whole setup (2 Mk 3 and one Sub 3) plugged in to AUX all the time, and simply power off with the button when not using, and back on when you want to use it (without having to ever unplug the AUX cables)? This is important for my setup because I don't want to have to unplug/replug the AUX every time I use the speakers.
@alanrossreviews
@alanrossreviews 3 жыл бұрын
the 2.1 would outperform the x3. but remember the minirigs have a tight defined base and nice stereo imaging. the only place x3 wins is the deeper rumble. the minirgs with one sub means the sub is only playing one channel and so 2.2 does sound better. you will have to power the subs and the woofers off separately but yes can be left plugged in. when you power the woofers back on with aux already inserted it will go straight to aux mode rather than bluetooth.
@JonasViatte
@JonasViatte 3 жыл бұрын
@@alanrossreviews Great thanks! I'll probably go for the Minirig 2.1 pack. Minirig seems incredible! One thing I can't find is the Sub 3's charging time; does it charge in 6-8h like the Mk3, or is it a bit slower? You say that the Sub only plays one channel, but that's only with Bluetooth no? When plugged in with the AUX cable and splitter to both Mk3s, the subwoofer is still mono of course, but it should have the left and right channels in there no? So if I understand correctly, in this 2.1 plugged in AUX configuration, you need to press all 3 buttons to power OFF, but pressing the Power ON button on the Sub 3 turns on the left and right speakers automatically no?

Just one question, before maybe buying my second Minirig 3. If I want to play two Minirig 3s in stereo using cables, do I need one or two AUX cables between the two speakers? I want to send wireless bluetooth signals to one of the speakers from my phone.

If you do it wired then you wire first into the sub and then use the minirig cable to split the left right channels out the two minirigs.

Hi there, I bought a Minirig 3 but I think it might be defective?... Does anyone else get a popping sound with bass kicks on medium to high volumes after only a few minutes of playtime? Seems like maybe the battery discharges fast and can't provide enough power to the amp properly? Pretty disappointed because there's no issue with it immediately after I fully charge it, it's actually pretty damn amazing!! ...but only for a few minutes.. Can't seem to find anyone else mention this online.

I’m in touch with minirig support and it’s coming down to interference from other WiFi/Bluetooth devices when two minirigs are being synced in stereo mode. I’ve been told that if there are too many other WiFi/BT devices the speakers will start cutting off. If I use only one speaker at the time the BT connection is pretty good As soon as they synced in stereo mode, and further away from each other (1.5-2 meters) they become useless. It’s seems like they only will work further away in perfect environment with very low number of other wireless devices. I’m not going even mention how awful it is to use their app and try to have it connect to those speakers. If I’m using Spotify and turn the minirig app on at the same time, it won’t connect to those speakers. I have to close Spotify and refresh minirig app several times to have it work. Overall, great hardware, but terrible everything else. Not sure if it’s worth this much money at this point.

In your opinion, how would the minirig 1.1 compare to the Bose revolve plus w.r.t bass and sound quality? Not considering portability or function features, Just for a person interested in the pleasure of pure sounding speakers.

How to downgrade the MINIRIG 3 and sub 3? Since update 19 it lost its loudness and bass. (The sub 3 mainly) It’s really frustrating. I told the support about this over a year now. But nothing happened. No new firmware and no possibility to downgrade. Pisses me really off. Factory reset didn’t help. The house shattering (bassy) sound is gone…

what happens if you push the volume for the sub in the app?

@@alanrossreviews it gets a bit louder, but not enough. I also use MINIRIG 3 in low mode and sub 3 in high mode to nearly have enough bass. But before 30% on phone were enough to shake the house and now even 100% don’t shake the house…

@@alanrossreviews just try to use MINIRIG 3 on high mode and the sub 3 on high mode and then crank the volume to 100%. Do you still hear the bass then? I doubt it. The MINIRIG 3 is so loud, that the sub is not to hear anymore. So, that’s the point. The sub is way too silent. And this was different before. The bass was insanely loud. Now it’s just „okay“ I need a downgrade firmware file and a tutorial, then I will do anything to downgrade this thing.

Hi mate. Have you ever had an issue where your sub stops outputting any sound literally after a few seconds no matter what? Tried everything. Even sent it back to them and they said there’s no issue with it. Losing the will to live. I have two subs and neither of them work 🥲
