I love how you use the rear door as a place for your hanging clothes. Very well thought out.

All I can say is, you could sell the plans for this set up! If my dad was still here, he would be impressed! I gather that you are an engineer, there’s so much genius here, I could barely wrap my head around it. I really loved the bed, and of all things, your clothing storage, basically creating a hanging garment bag out of the rear gate- - brilliant! My husband requires forearm crutches, and this is one of the first builds I’ve seen that he could easily get in and out of, simply by sitting on the floor via the side, sliding door, and pull himself in backwards. You have given me a lot of hope, I can see us creating something similar, and that means the world to me, because I never want my husband to miss a single experience.

Oooo...LOVE the idea of the hanging storage on the back door...very clever! Sure wish I had the metal-working skills to make this bed for my Dodge Grand Caravan. That has to be my favorite part of this build because it is so simple to convert. Not to mention being able to use the jumpseats in the back and still access the stow-n-go area. You would have a customer in me if you and your husband ever decided to make kits of this bed for DGC minivan owners to buy, FOR SURE! Thanks for sharing. My comment is probably way off topic. If you haven’t yet be sure to let down the spare tire. I have worked out of a Chrysler minivan for years. The winch that lets the spare tire down is notorious for rusting up. I was stranded with a flat unable to let the spare tire down. It was necessary to jack the van up and actually cut the cable to release the tire. Speaking with a service advisor at a Chrysler dealer he told me “yes I have seen dozens of these. “ FYI please make sure yours works way before you need it and check it often.

The hotels you would stay at on your drive to the destination usually cost more than at the destination. So anything you can do, a van, a tent, etc, will save a lot. I did a road trip to reno, and since its casino town, the hotels are pretty cheap. But on the way there you can spend $100+ for rooms that are dumps and sometimes even a roach friend or 2 to greet you in the morning.
