I did exactly what your buddy said. I tried to make some colony traps but the wire was wrong. Now I know exactly what I'm going to do with them now!

what would you say the avg. time is to catch one when you have good sign? I ran 3 mink boxes last yr and never got a single one. Might have to try a more natural approach.

Honestly it all lond of depends on the area. For whatever reason I've got spots it works really well in, then other areas loaded with mink where it doesn't. I use it as an additional tool along with my other mink sets. Also like my k9, I've had catches on day 1, and also waited 2 weeks before a catch, even though it's loaded up with animals. Wish I had a better answer lol. Good luck this season on the trap line!

Pro tip: run fish as bait until cold weather sets in, once cold weather arrives, run red meat and lure with anything containing skunk. Cavens gusto or Dunlap hellfire are excellent lures.

The idea of making a cubby with cage wire is great. Seems like you could do the same with double door cage traps also, a ready made cubby with the doors already in place with less setting time and no wiring.

These are actually faster than they look to set up. We were going slow for the video. We've seen doubles being caught this way as well, and compared to cages, these are really cheap making it a lot easier to have 20 or more sets made. Cages do have their place for sure, but for placing high numbers of them, I'd rather run these.

Looks like that double sided set would be really effective.

+The Rogue Trapper it works pretty well. I'm just getting stuff together for this weekend where I'll be setting at least a dozen sets over several ponds. The rat houses are getting hit hard so I'm using rat meat instead of fish in this case.

Nice set-up but i like to use 120's instead of 110's. In my opinion a 110 is only affective when set as a drowning set.
@MissionOutdoors
@MissionOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
The only time I've ever had an issue with 110's was when they were a little older. I agree 120's are better, but I mainly run 110's at the moment because it's mainly what I have on hand.

Do the traps freeze down?
@MissionOutdoors
@MissionOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
If I'm worried about them freezing down due to freeze thaw comditions, I'll add a little hay under it. If it's just snow underneath, you don't have to worry.

Not yet I haven't. Can't say I've ever caught one actually now that I think of it, no matter what set I'm using. Lucky for them! Lol

I bet that would work for rabbits on dry land! I'm setting these right on the ice here, but dry land by brush could be killer for rabbits. I'll have to try that out.

whats the easiest way to get rid of human scent from your set
@MissionOutdoors
@MissionOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't even worry about it much. When it's warm/hot weather I may run a scent killing spray, but typically when it's cold I run as is.

@MissionOutdoors
@MissionOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
One of the best is muskrat meat, but don't overlook rabbit or fish either. Pretty much if it's meat they'll go for it.

MOST trappers boil the oils off of their traps before setting, but I throw mine in the ground as is and let nature take care of it. After the first season I'll dye and wax them though. Normally I'm too busy bowhunting in the Fall and just don't have the time to really get everything prepped early on.

Question. I had a brown mink get in my coop and kill chickens about a month ago. I personally saw it. I set out a live trap but it was too smart and set it off without getting caught. I moved some new hens into my work shop but came out yesterday morning to find 8 out of 10 dead. I set a live trap in the coop with sardines, salmon and some blood and feathers from the dead birds and made it like a covered tunnel. I went out this morning and there was a white ermine in it. I dispatched it. What's the chances of another one hanging around with it. Should I set the trap in the same spot again? Or do they run in singles this time of year. I'm in Southern Ontario Canada.
