Minnie Riperton's live solo performance of "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" She was also a vocalist on Quincy Jones' version from his Body Heat recording (c. 1974), singing with Leon Ware and Al Jarreau.

This was the performance that showed that her right arm was paralyzed from the tumor that came from the breast cancer. What an amazing woman; to perform despite the fact that she couldn't move her arm. Makes me sick how the truly talented are taken from us way too soon.

I love Mariah, but Minnie was really something else AND in a different realm altogether! Just like Lisa Fischer and Rachelle Ferrell. Minnie could really belt it out if asked and this is proof right here. Totally underrated vocalist!!! One of the very best to ever do it, period.

It's SO amazing to me that Minnie was battling such a rough disease, yet STILL performed with such fervor and fire! And the vocal phrasing in that high note is nothing short of amazing. This woman is phenomenal.

Minnie was an incredible songbird and a beautiful woman inside and out. She showed so much courage and strength. She wasn't afraid to show herself inspite of the fact that cancer was obviously affecting the mobility in her right arm. Her strength is a testament that we can get through anything life throws our way. Thank you Minnie. Your music moves me!!

Minnie's voice is just so full of genuine innocence, clarity and reverence; it's a true revelation! I loved her when I was a child and love her even more now as an adult! To think that she's singing so effortlessly and joyfully, although her right arm is paralyzed; was in a pain and looking her own mortality right in the eyes! She is a true gem; a legend! Thank God for the moment we've had to experience her heavenly body of work! Bless you Minnie - WE SEND OUR LOVE ALL THE WAY to HEAVEN!

You are so right. Watched the millennials go insane when I challenged them saying "Cheap Thrills' can be written on the back of a paper napkin and anyone can write lyrics like that. They said "ya but no one can sing like Sia." I almost died laughing.

Damn Karen, you took the words right out of my mouth...lol...I was around when people like Minnie was performing live and their voices were like angels singing from heaven. So many great females that could blow any of these "divas" out of the water. Does not surprise me that the young ones took nothing from the great ones of yesteryear. I don't see that happening anytime soon. Thanx to all the Great Female Artists who did it all and sung lie angels....Peace and Love....

it's true there's a lot of trashy music but working in that field I know a lot of genuine true talent and classy female singers. Ones that have taken notes from the greats, with jazz and funk and R+B and have really learned from them and created their new version. A lot of female singers and composers but also working production on their own music as well as for other people and collaborations which is really nice. I think it's a bit of a blanket assumption to claim there's no good female artists like Minnie anymore. I think if she was still around she'd be connecting with these newer female artists who are making great music.

And if you do look at the comments, they are one hundred percent--literally, kind and flattering for this remarkable women, so close to Glory and yet so fearless in her performance--wow, let's just think about her. It just seems like she wasn't finished, she had so much more to give, so much new music to experience, a new sound of the 80's was on the way she really would've sky rocketed....it just seems so unfair :( her spirit was so sweet and she wanted to be with her babies. The song return to forever was so gray, cold and it seemed like it was the very end so so sad.

My fingers smell of pop just spelling their names...

Even in death she found a way of bringing beauty to the world!!! Return to forever! Having lost my mum to cancer at 6 I can't think of a more perfect way for a child to hear their mother's last thought's after she's gone & they are old enough to understand! She's only gone back to being the love that she came from and still exists as many things in many places, I dare anyone who feels her in their heart & believes in the soul to call out to her! She will come to you!!!
