***************************************
Minor Swing is the most known gypsy jazz song. It was written by Django Reinhardt and was introduced to a wide audience in the movie chocolat, with Johnny Depp playing this tune by the campfire.
I got many request from people on how to play Minor Swing on guitar. Well, your wish is my command, so here it is.
You'll learn the head, which is the melody, as well as one chorus I made of Minor Swing solo. I'll teach you some of the great gypsy guitar solo lines we all love so much. I'll also teach you some background information of the scales and arpeggioas I use to solo over Minor swing.
Of course I also made the Minor Swing tab, thus includes the guitar solo tab and the melody.
I also made a Minor Swing gypsy jazz backing track, in fast and slow tempo, wich you can download from one of the above links.
The level of this Minor Swing guitar tutorial is intermediate, the melody is really simple, but the solo is a little tougher. I tried to keep the guitar solo simple, but hey, it's gypsy jazz, so it gets pretty fast once in a while :-)
Please give this Minor Swing guitar solo Lesson a thumbs up if you like it. Please share the knowledge!

Went to a restaurant Saturday night in Savannah Ga and heard they had "jazz" music Didn't know what to expect, and then it was Gypsy Jazz! What a special surprise. The guys had one D-hole guitar, one oval hole guitar, a violin and a drummer on "boxes" or whatever you call that All were amplified except the drums They were great. All instrumental, no vocals but a special moment Then I went right back to your teaching to understand again the style Thank you thank you thank you

Sandra, you teaching Django brings me pleasant memories and a bit if a tear to my eye. Here in Australia the leading Gypsy Jazz Maestro was Ewan Mckenzie and a very very dear friend of mine. You may have heard his playing. He was sort of Rosenberg in Australia, and they did play together. He was the founder of the Oz Manouche festival. 2 months ago he died. I'm still feeling that. Ewan and I Djammed together many times and he tried to teach me but I have a brain injury aand learning post that is hard. I thank you for your lesson which is more at a level I nowadays can follow. Request: For Sephora. :-) All the best. :-)

"If" I enjoyed the lesson(s)? Of course I did. Fabulous! Question: For those of us who love Django's music and are classically trained, can you recommend some sheet music to read from?
@GuitarversumSandraSherman

Gypsy players never wrote sheet music, that's why there isn't much I guess. There are usually (badly written) Tabs, like the Robin Nolan Gypsy Gigbook.

@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Vielen Dank Sandra. At least that's somewhere to begin. I borrowed some other stuff, but it too was very limited. So, I send you my thanks mit ein glaesel Gumpholds Kirchner, oder Muller Thurgau, oder Grunner Veltliner. I lived in Vienna some years and I know it well. I've noticed that there are many different approaches to this problem and everyone is an "authority". It's very disappointing and confusing. Your approach is closer to my training. I'm a follower of Julian Bream who began his guitar studies with Django's music and was a great Django fan, whom he dearly admired, and inspired him in his work, in becoming a great classical guitarist. 🙃

Hmm, gute Frage.

Gypsy guitars have the marker at the 10th fret. Every other guitar in the world has it on the 9th fret. Since having it on the 10th always confused the hell out of me, when this guitar was made for me I asked the luthier to put the fretmarker at the 9th fret.
