Hi Ryan. Thank you for the video. I have ADHD and budgeting has been a really hard thing for me to keep up with. I’m looking for a app that will let me break down my budget DAILY 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ I also need daily reminders to check the app. Can mint do this? I know this might sound crazy to some people but anyone with ADHD would understand.

Angela, I totally do understand that. Not sure if Mint can do that or not, but can you set it up in either 1) an electronic planner program or 2) as an alarm on a watch or phone? You could also associate it with something that you already do every day. For instance, if you already take vitamin supplements every morning, have your phone by the vitamins. Or simply check it at the same time every day. If you check your email every day, you could have tabs set on your browser with your email and Mint. Hope this is helpful. Good luck.

One more suggestion. What I've done recently is set a 15-minute time block called "Bills and Deadlines" that is done at the same time each day - 9 am. First thing of the day, before getting started on phone calls, emails etc. During that block I check the overview and the bills tab in Mint to see everything that is due, and also check my digital planner calendar for anything with the status of appointment, deadline, or bill due. (Created a custom view for that). The timeblock is done every weekday at 9 am, whether it's necessary to check bills that day or not, just to create a habit. If you're super-adhd, set a recurring alarm for 8:55 am as a reminder.

I'm with you. ADD adult here 🙋🏻‍♀️ annnnnd I'm drowning. Always have. I can't wrap my brain around some things and it's soul crushing😭 I've tried EVERYTHING you can think of. I'm here trying again. Again. I can make a budget no problem, it's just in the tracking I can't see what's coming up and the timing of bills and spending and income is overwhelming to me. And I can't wrap my brain around the numbers that roll over, like money that wasn't spent from last month or if you transfer from your own savings, how it factors into everything...I dunno. I can't even really explain what it is I don't understand. It's very frustrating

Thank you, Ryan, for a great introduction. I have a question regarding a first-time setup for a budget. I have not used any tool like this and do not have a formal budget. If I connect Mint to my credit cards and bank account, will I be able to use past transaction to create a benchmark for a budget? For instance, can it automatically load my last 12 months and help me create a budget structure from this data?

Very helpful video. Thanks. I've had Mint for years; almost since it came out. BUT, I've always found it confusing to use, so I've gone away and come back to it many times. The budgeting feature was particularly hard for me to grasp. I started using YNAB at the beginning of this year and really liked it at first, but I'm finding that I have to spend a LOT of time with it. I'm looking to come back to Mint because it has all my history, plus I like the reporting better. This video really helped me understand the budgeting feature better. But my question is what process do you use to close out your budget from month to month and "reset" it for the next month? Any advice?

Question: I have the app and I’m confused about the section at 1:24 where it says $2053 of $2221 spent and $168 left. Where do they get these numbers? Bc when I look at my budget there is more than what is listed there on my account left to spend

Hi Ryan, I'm new to mint. I noticed when linking a bank (NFCU) to mint it did not allow me to select which accounts held with this institution to display in mint. Is there a way to select which accounts within a bank are linked to mint. When I linked a credit card (Chase) it did allow me to select with accounts to link.

Started Mint last night and Can already tell it’s going to take a ton of work daily. Every transaction includes a long text string, so no rule I create will work. There isn’t a rule option to just include a merchant’s name so I’m having to manually edit transactions. If I have to do this daily… I’m out on Mint. Anyone running into this? Is there an option like “if it includes xyz then”?

Sorry to hear this tutorial sucked for you. Here's where there is a "Create a Budget" button: After signing up for Mint, linking an account, and accessing the "Monthly" tab, there is a button near the top of the screen called "Create a Budget". Once you've set up your budget for the first time, you'll then create & add new categories via the "Add Budget" section.
