Today for your viewing pleasure, I am getting this classic 1954 Cadillac Coupe Deville down to bare metal. I will take you through the process I use to make this car a blank canvas and give it another life.
I will be using a proprietary 3 step process:
1st step Alkaline paint remover/degreaser
2nd step Food grade rust removing acid
3rd step Water based rust inhibitor
For dipping quotes and or scheduling contact 3s chemicals llc -(814) 749-9015

I wish they had this back when my buddy and I would restore cars back in the day. He’d buy us one in the early spring when we were in High School. We’d work on it during the summer and winter to keep us out of trouble. Well, it worked and we learned a couple of skills. His dad had every tool under the sun. We rebuilt a ‘51 Crown Vic, ‘55 Bel Air, ‘56 Bel Air and a Ranchero. I don’t remember the year. We did everything from the ground up. Those were the good Ol’ days. Lots of memories.

The pink was the original Apocalypse primer. It was nitroscellulo's lacquer. Acrylic lacquer did not start till 1958. That was an original cream puff.

Fantastic job stripper 👏, a reassurance for the customer he has something to start from scratch, full detail from start to finish, a prize finish to show, I love the older cars they have fabric and a better detail, eye catching while on a tour, the older generations remember the 1950,s 60,s and 70,s cars to witch they owned an were proud of 😊.( Memories).

Cool that this car has the trunk-mounted factory air conditioning. We can see the two openings for the air scoops and the rear deck openings for the air intake and discharges. It must have been pretty spiffy just off the showroom floor. I would love to see some follow-on videos, sometime, of what happens to these frame-off bodies once they are restored. Good job.

This Cadillac firewall is intriguing. Most firewalls are ugly with random holes and cutouts. The symmetry of this one makes it look almost styled. It is a thing of beauty.

This is the best way to strip cars that have rust and previous repaints. I have been using Restoration Specialists in Franklin Wisconsin for the last 25 years, they do a great job. I always have them E coat the parts after because it has to go through another wash. I only had 1 issue with acid leaching on a 60 Impala where the fin seam was but I let the cars sit for a month before doing any work on them.

This is fascinating and so satisfying to watch. I'd bet that lead was applied at the factory to clean up the lip under the trunklid. Looks like all the rot is focused in the areas where snow/slush/salt would collect and evade a hose. Interesting that the floor pans are gone but the trunk pan seems really solid. People really drove those cars before they were classics I guess! Great content.

Fantastic video. I remember that people repainted pink cars when the colour went out of style. I the owner restores it to the original colour. The holes in the rear shelf are for the factory air. I remember seeing the twin clear plastic air pipes that came through the rear shelf.

The old metal was made mostly from straight mined ore,today’s metal manufacturing they recycle old rusted metal in and just because it’s melted down into “new” metal doesn’t mean the oxidation isn’t present throughout the metal,luckily today we have superior paints compared to the 50s and 60s to combat corrosion,great video.

How do you go about filtering out the contamination from the tanks? Have you ever thought about putting out a video outlining your process and shop layout?
@minute_of_dangle
@minute_of_dangle 8 ай бұрын
I would love to do a video on that. We are in the middle of remodeling and expanding. So when everything’s all organized and optimized I will definitely do a video. As for disposal we neutralize all the waste so the PH is 7. So it basically just turns into salt water, then we pump the sludge and liquid into evaporation tanks with heat exchangers in them to evaporate all the water out. Next we pump the sludge into a filter press which compacts all the sludge into a cake and separates the remaining liquid. Evaporate the rest of the liquid then put the cakes in totes and have a company that specializes in chemical waste disposal dispose of it for us properly

My Grampa told me they used to use lead instead of Bondo, but never saw it before. This was cool. Also, until this video, didn't know it spent days in the alkaline, I thought it was an overnight thing. Now I understand why it's such a looooong process. These old Caddy's were a work of art. I'm a Lincoln/Mercury guy, but I can truly appreciate the beauty in these luxury barges. 2 questions. Is a feame off resto easier than a unibody? And do you folks partner with certain auto restorers? Thanks for a great video Trevor! Have a happy n safe Halloween!

Many do not know in the 1950's Detroit stopped using lead and went to " body filler" ("factory bondo." ) There are places where body panels , etc. just would not fit together without it. My family's wrecking yard did a lot of business in sheet metal. back in the day.
