I’m so tired of the haters! This was a great match and Taylor is doing great things! I had a conversation with coach who worked with Taylor in the past and I told him she is my favorite player on the WTA right now. Like many of you he commented on her weight and explained she has a medical condition that makes it very difficult to lose and maintain a healthy weight. He needn’t explain more because I have the same condition. You see tennis is an incredibly rigorous sport, especially for women. As a result many female tennis players have elevated levels of testosterone and hence why many female players tend to have a more muscular or boxy physique. While this a good thing for strength, endurance, and athleticism, for some, overtime the continued higher levels of testosterone and cortisol causes the body to hold on to extra fat. (E.g. oskapenko or Serena Williams during the latter parts of their careers) Back in 2021 Taylor lost the extra 15-20 lbs but she’s actually playing much better now than she did then. If she wanted to do that again she would probably have to travel around with a personal chef/nutritionist which certainly not cheap and is probably why many of the higher ranking players have such a good physique. Most of you that are saying mean things out of bitterness and ignorance because if you’re really honest with yourself, you’re probably watching the highlights because you know her story and truly admire her tenacity, courage and talent. Everyone is on their own journey and has their own motivations for playing the sport. Nuff respect for Taylor to keep up the hard work.

See lots of comments about Taylor's weight, and aside from the pathetic snark, it's a valid point--moving extra weight around can be a liability for sure. But watching the highlights, it didn't look to me like Taylor lost any foot speed throughout the match, and she didn't look slow out there. She chased down some balls. So who knows?
@jackwachtel-scott8000
@jackwachtel-scott8000 9 күн бұрын
Plenty of rugby and NFL players look a bit heavy but it doesn't significantly affect performance. If the weight being moved around is largely muscle it isn't as much of a hindrance as you might think. Townsend is pretty solid.
@nt4081
@nt4081 9 күн бұрын
Apparently, she was never taught what is the appropriate amount of food, and has overeaten. She is only about 5'4. If she can lose about 15-20 lbs it will change her physique she will improve many aspects of her game. I noticed a match at Charleston against Azeranka, and Taylor was taking in snacks or something every time she sat. She does not need that, there is too much fat on her body that needs to be burned first. Too many calories taken in and not burned. Who knows what she ate after that match. I thought to myself, if she can stop thinking she is hungry, she might be able to think of a strategy to beat Azeranka. That was nervous eating.

@@jackwachtel-scott8000 Less weight would be better on knees and other joints, and the heart. NFL players with all that weight are not necessarily healthy . They often gorge on too much food and the wrong food.

Taylor can win Grand Slams. She's powerful like Serena Williams but she doesn't have the tactical element to her game. She needs Serena's coach to help her and she can be multiple Grand Slam winner. Right now her game lacks finesse and point construction.
@clarencebland4861
@clarencebland4861 9 күн бұрын
WRONG! Other than gender and racial background Taylor Townsend is nothing at all like Serena Williams. At 27 Serena may have been physically bigger than most of the other woman players but she certainly was not fat. I saw her in person on a practice court and everyone was marveling at how absolutely cut she was in real life! That’s not the case with Taylor. She moves well for a big girl but that’s just it…for a big girl! She needs to either pull a Martina Navratilova and transform her body or accept that she’s only going to have limited success on tour. She’s making some money so that might be good enough.

Calling her future is too soon. I don't find anything dominating in her game. Neither she has a big serve lile Rybakina, nor the powerful groundstrokes like Sabalenka. Her athleticism is above average but still nothing close to Swiatek or Gauff. She plays like Kasatkina tbh, just my perspective.
@nt4081
@nt4081 9 күн бұрын
It is smart not to make predictions so soon. I see a mental focus which is good. She did not put herself out of the match when down. There were grand plans and expectations for Mugurauza and it was 2 Slams and a Final, but many more losses.

What exactly was "dominating" about Coco's game at 15-18? When she was bageled by Potapova and Badosa in back to back tournaments? Also, Andreeva's serve is already much better than Dasha's. Nonsensical comparison. She's still getting stronger and plays closer to the baseline than last year. Some people look at young talents and expect them to have results like Steffi or Hingis, otherwise they aren't great. Those days are over and never coming back. Today the game is much more physically demanding, the balls are causing injuries even among top players, it's simply not possible anymore. If Mirra and her team pays attention to her mental health and physical development, she will be a top5 player within a few years, undoubtedly.

She needs to have some muscle behind her shots. I think it is safe to say that being too slim is not an advantage, and too heavy is also a disadvantage. Miira needed the muscle weight to compete. Even Rybankia has gained muscle, and so has Emma. The skinny girl tennis player is not the ideal, and Mirra is no longer a junior. No muscle and strength would mean weakness and fatigue just like for a woman too fat. Look at sinner as well. Muscle gained helps his game.
