What makes Ghalib's Poetry and Suraiya & Talat Mahmood's voice Shine out is the Superlative Music Composition by Ghulam Mohammad. He was an assistant to Naushad Saheb, but was a great composer. These compositions give me the same pleasure today as they did 60 years ago. This gem of a collection will never grow old.

Ghulam Mohammad's compositions are all wonderful. But as a Nepali boy from Kathmandu, Hai Bas Ki Har Ek by Md Rafi had touched me in my childhood. Rafi's voice has the divine quality, I believe.

My uncle used to like this song. He passed away in 1992 due to Parkinson's. I remember him whenever I listen to this song.

I have seen only 3 films of Suraiya in theatres. However, many of her films I saw in U tube, video etc. She had acted unfortunately as a tragedian like Meena Kumari in few films which I can remember, prominent ones among them being viz. Dillagi, Dastan, Mirza Ghalib etc. But in those films where she got her ending by living with her heart throb like in Shair, Anmol Ghadi, Sanam, Badi Bahen, the songs were made as though she will not get her dream fulfilled of getting married!!! Strangely, the lyrics were so sad and tear jerking that some how it stuck to her life permanently. Very sad indeed. But she was a great singer, very pretty and good looking than her contemporaries of that era besides she could sing so sweetly that one hearing her songs were carried to the ethereal world. That was the charm of this legendary singer. She could have remained in limelight but the tragedy in her life was quite a pain particularly to those who loved her. May God rest her soul in eternal peace. Whenever I drive through the Marine Drive promenade I don't forget to see Krishna Mahal, where she lived.

Love this singing actress..such people like meenaji..born once ..but their death does not dim their brightness...it remains long aftr they are gone..they were bornbto rule... Mirza ghalib saheb ki kalam se roohani shaayari aur ghazlen likhi jaati theen, jinki baraabari iss jahan ke log nahin kar sakte. Unki shaan me kuchh bhi likhna be-adabi hogi.ye bhi ghazab ki baat hai ki Khuda hum jaise bandon ke liye kabhi kabhi Ghalib jaisi shakhshiyat iss zameen per utaar detaa hai.

Hello Manoj Malviya, What a terrible thing to say about beautiful Meena Kumari, both Suraiya and Meena were in their top most places in their careers in their time. I don't think there was any animosity between the two. Both were very versatile in their acting but Suraiya had an edge on Meena bcause of her capability or talent to sing. Love threm both!!!
