Richard Georg Strauss (1864 - 1949) was a German composer, conductor, pianist, and violinist considered a leading composer of the late Romantic and early modern eras. The Canadian pianist Glenn Gould described Strauss in 1962 as "the greatest musical figure who has lived in this century"
Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov (1865 - 1936) was a Russian composer, music teacher, and conductor of the late Russian Romantic period. Glazunov toured Europe and the United States in 1928, and settled in Paris by 1929.
