Ikr the people defending his character are ridiculous. He's a walking red flag fr, like any toxic relationship, he gives you bouts of good moments but all are few and far in between. He has hurt kotoko more than he showed her "love" and "care" for her and he never seemed to apologize to any of his behavior and he'd gaslighted her so many times. He even let kotoko take the fall for not going to the Tokyo U entrance exam when he could've clearly told anyone he has time even after rushing her to the hospital, he watched kotoko's father do the deep bow and he couldn't care less which if anyone knew japan culture, that was extremely embarrassing on that context. He let other people bully and make fun of kotoko on that high scholl graduation ceremony they had. He kissed her forcefully, regardless if she liked him, that was not the way to go, he didn't have her consent, he kissed her too when she was asleep, again regardless of whether she liked him, he clearly doesn't respect her of he thinks he can do that. He only wanted kotoko when he thought he was gonna lose her to kin-chan, ffs he was already engaged to a different girl then, he both played with that girl and kotoko's feelings. Even at the end of this episode, he didn't even try to follow her or appease her. He didn't care what would happen to her *wife* . And i could really go on and on about him and dude if you found a guy like this in real life, run away. Tbh i think people are just defending him cause he's handsome but attach the same attitude to a less attractive male and see how they change their opinion. And before dense and blind fans attack me, I only am talking about the character Irie Naoki and not the actor Furukawa Yuki. Edit: there's also a lot of faults with kotoko's character, girl can't live without a man, can't respect herself jfc but that's a discussion for a different time.

I think that Naoki might have opened up to Kin-chan for advice is because Kin-chan is the only other guy that has been in love with Kotoko. He knows her well. Naoki and Kin-chan share a bond in that way. Also, Kin-chan does not mince words he will tell you straight what's going on.

You've got the point. I know he is a jealous partner after watching the season 1. He is also good at hiding it but i can tell it all. If you look him close from the previous , you will see he put all his attentions to every guy that comes close to Kotoko and somehow he manages to shove them away from Kotoko but him. Hahaha he reminds me of my husband's image from the days we just start to know each other. I love this drama because my love story is pretty similar to it. But mine is the office romance. Every time i rewatch this series, i always smile and tell him that how Naoki kun is similar to him and that I'm amazed that i win his heart over.

Naoki is possessive to her. He doesn't want any man to come steal her heart even before they got married. He always make sure that any man would feel he holds the upper hand because he have her heart and her 100% attention. But keita is in another level. And knowing her when she sets her mind into doing something she would do everything to succeed. I don't think most viewers are aware that loosing her was the last thing he doesn't want to experience. He can't stand it

That explains well. Everytime I rewatch this drama I always thought that Naoki's character is very unique from all cold-hearted characters I know. I can see it on the surface that he doesn't care or was forced into it but when I observed how he watches his wife talking, there are invisible sparkles that makes him romantic. Given to his situation and his upbringing, he isn't like other people who can understand their own emotions. He got intelligence but that doesn't mean he's perfect. He can make mistakes too. I think he is lucky to meet Kotoko rather than Kotoko is lucky to have him. And he is very aware of that. In this episode was kinda hard for him because this is his first time to feel so threatened now that any man who is close to Kotoko can see her charming personality and can fell in love with her the way he does right now.

And for starters like him, it is hard to cope up in dealing jealousy. He never felt that way because he has never been jealous before because he can do all things effortlessly. I think it's a very big challenge to him. I know it's a red flag to some others but I think his character is constructed. He can be hateful sometimes to the way he treated Kotoko with his cold ways but if somebody has to take Kotoko away from him, damn he could be devastated. Because only Kotoko can bring out the best of him. So I think this is how Naoki should do when he's jealous.

But even though in this episode he treated Kotoko as sht, disregard her being his wife but at the end of the day he never stop thinking about her. He acted so cold and distant because he clearly doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know that what he is feeling is jealousy until Kin-chan pointed out for him. If he doesn't love Kotoko, then he shouldn't listened to him and let her out of his life. As I look closely, he wants to patch things with her but he doesn't know where to start. 🙂

I think his character has a lot of development going on and he really mean to learn and accept the changes in his life. People change when they love someone so does Naoki. Kotoko fell for him first but as they day goes by he will fall harder and deep loving her. All of this episodes have brought Naoki the real meaning of life that he can't just find easily on books. So this episode means special because we've got to witness how he takes his jealousy to any level. So it might be a red flag but no relationship is perfect.

@@blissfujiwara1753 I think compared to other versions, due the Naoki's prototype insights we actually understand him better and see him falling in love than in other version. The more you rewatch you notice things like him always staring at her, drinking her coffee to relax, helping her study frequently and so on. In my eyes they're both lucky to have each other no sane person would fall back in love with their obsessive stalker, Kotoko needs someone calm and who challenges her to work harder. Had she not met Naoki, she probably would've settled for Kinchan and just worked at her father's restaurant but never found her dream. The hardships they're both experiencing is helping them grow as people and as a couple. It's good that they have them. Smth on my rewatched I really loved was how Naoki didn't meddle in the issue with Rika, in some eyes that might be cruel, but it was smart. He let Kotoko "proof" herself and show that it can only be Kotoko, would he have meddled she wouldn't have gotten it. It shows how much he trust his wife and admires her.

True. Naoki has his ways to express his feelings towards Kotoko. We always think that being vocal is a green flag but we should realize also that we have different ways of expressing our love. I've been rewatching this many times, I also thought before that Naoki is really bad but I realized that Naoki dont have experience in love before because he is really focus on his studies that's why you can tell that everything he feels is new to him.

His new to the feelings and nobody teach him how to be a good husband to her. For him , he tries his best to be there for her always. And to always make her feel loved in his own way. For him having a initiative to have physical contact is a big deal because he hates it himself. But because of her. He adjusts to her pace and tried to understand her and comfort her. He also has his shortcomings too. Just like kotoko has hers
