Learn to sew. Push the needle in, pull the needle out. That's what sewing is all about. Patterns exist. KZfaq University provides teachers aplenty. Just begin. And if you fail at your first try, you need to know that professionals work with a cheap fabric called muslin FIRST and will make and remake upwards of 7 times. SEVEN TIMES. And this is the average. @@ddneko1385 Qipao is influenced by Manchu women’s long robe. The last Chinese dynasty is Qing. Manchu women wore long robes called Qi Zhuang, very similar to the old styled Qi Pao. After Qing ended, Qi Pao was invented, combining elements from Qi Zhuang and more modern cutting styles. “Zhuang” means clothes while “Pao” means robe. Both share the same first word “Qi”. “Qi” often refers to Manchu people.

They have to be cut looser to the body because traditional materials do not stretch. It is also a testament to the fine craftsmanship of fitting such a garment to a body. The elegance comes from the people who wear these garments knowing how to comport themselves So many non-Asians are vulgar at worst and awkward at best because they don’t understand that you can’t just throw something on without knowing how to move in it. There’s a reason we traditionally do not put these clothes on children and they start wearing them when they are older and know how to present themselves properly
@the_indecisiveartist_5850
@the_indecisiveartist_5850 Ай бұрын
As an American, I couldn't agree more. Movement and how you present yourself make an outfit. You could have the most gorgeous dress in the world, but if you don't know how to walk or stand in it, it will look unflattering. I do wish practicality was more emphasized in the fashion world. I have short dresses I hate wearing. They are very tight around my thighs and due to the lack of a slit, I am stuck making limited movements and wear a corset to fix my posture so it doesn't bunch up. The Qipaos of the past really do look elegant and dignified, so much more comfortable and breathable too. While I love experimenting with clothes, uncomfortable or not, I wish more people put value into thier appearance. I cannot go to work, or an event, without taking the time to be comfortable and beautiful. It makes me glad my parents instileld the habit of dressing nice to make a good first impression, and if I don't want to be bothered by anyone, I just throw on a shirt and pants lol

Cheongsams are also flattering on most women and use the minimum amount of fabric necessary. I made a beautiful one from brilliant red embroidered silk damask my grandfather brought back from Hong Kong (He worked at Pan Am in its heyday) for my mother, probably 70 years ago. Unfortunately, the damask fabric was so narrow and my mom's hips could not be accommodated. The piece came down to me and i started making a cheongsam for myself to wear out on Valentine's day with my boyfriend. But, we broke up and so i put it away for 10 years. I was always the go to girl for prom dresses and the older of two girls I had babysat since she was one year old, asked what i had available. Since she was about my size and build I hauled the half finished dress out and finished it up with red silk tissue lining. I just needed to let it out a little in the waist and give her a couple of diuretic tablets, since she had her period and her bust wasnt fitting from water weight. Next day, she looked beautiful with lacquered chopsticks in her chignon and a small black silk cylinder shaped clutch I lent her. I've still never worn it myself.

@@LUIS-ox1bv You're entirely wrong... it's not. Go to KwaZulu-Natal in south africa and walk on the beach... Woman shower top less and nobody cares. Absolutely normal. Nobody sexualizes them. Traditionally dressed zulu woman don't cover their breasts at all, but again- it's not seen as sexual, only as traditional and it's admired. @@AirbornSoul013Every culture has a concept of modesty. It's usually determined by the acceptable standard of behavior in that culture and the physical climate. Cold places wear more clothes, because it would be stupid not to. Hot places either go long and loose or accustom bare skin to intense sun. But it's folly to pretend that modesty is a purely western concept. Some societies don't consider breasts as sexual. Western society didn't always do so, either. Times and values changed, as they do in every culture. I get a little tired of the idea that western colonization was somehow unique or supremely terrible. Colonization always sucks, but don't assume that everything you currently dislike about your culture came about because it got colonized. There are good and bad and questionable things about every culture, and only some of them are a direct response to external pressure. People come up with weird and stifling rules on their own, you know? Over time the world in general has gotten more and more hyper sexualised. Perhaps the tides will reverse and we will leave that behind for a while. Who knows?
@AirbornSoul013

@@rachelclark6393 the statement I'm correcting is "modesty is universal", not "every culture has modesty". Some people just don't, and some are without culture. There are always outliers, making generalizations like this is absolutely stupid when you don't know every culture or creed on the planet, and you get people like me saying modesty isn't a concept in some places... and some cultures... and some traditions... "Acceptable standard of behavior" don't define or outline modesty, that's a separate talk entirely. Enesizotha is "polite" in Zulu... the word "modesty" doesn't conceptually exist in the language. Maybe learn about tribal culture and language before encompassing the world in your statements?
