Hi Davy. The issue is, I’ve put a blanking plate in the Egr so I assume this makes the Egr valve basically redundant so even if there was some type of blockage it shouldn’t cause an issue because the Egr is t being used? Could be totally wrong and I’ll check anyway, but my next course of action will be to replace the fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure sensor

@@michaelpotter5455 that's where i was wrong too it has nothing to do with how much egr the engine receives its because the blokkage the valves starts to act up strange and causes the strange behaviour. Evert time the idle surge disapeaered when i take the connector of from the valve or removed connector from airflow meter. Then the enige goes in a fixed program and the idle is normal. I checked everything injectors fuel pressure etc everything was stable. don't understand me wrong but i have 18years my own shop and had a lot of weard problems and This one is in my top 5. My guess is that the vacuum is Blokked to the valve en the engine tries to adjust This. I have no doubt this is exact the same problem!! I found IT just today and This was a problem on top of the throtlle valve that we replaced. I found your clip because i was lost.untill i found out the valve on the vacuum in side wasnt getting vacuum and removed the hose and found the blokkage. My problem was instant gone.

@@AdmotiveAdmotive thanks for the reply. So did you replace the throttle body also? Could that not have been the problem? If my EGR valve is blanked off why would a blockage in the valve effect the idle as it’s blanked off anyway? I don’t have access to my van for a couple of weeks but I’m going to try and check what you mean, where is it located can you remember?

@@michaelpotter5455 the car was in the shop because the engine management light was on. The fault was in the throttle body.After replacement the engine management light was out and the engine returnend back to normal mode.That's when we discoverd that the engine rpm goes up and down. everytime we put a fault in the car like for example disconnect the vacuum valve or airflow meter the car goes in limp mode (fixed program) then idle was stable but you here and smell that the car is in limp.Then i started check everything fuel pressure temperature etc..that the requierd airmass andactual deviates when the engine is cold is normal the egr only start work when the engine is at temperature.I first thought to that the egr was at fault and took my vacuum pump and manually put vacuum on the egr. ofcourse then the engine Rpm did go to normal then and i realized it's an egr fault.Because the idle problem was only there when the engine was cold it was almost not possible it was a sticking valve.It's then that i started check the vacuum to the solenoid valve and found in the T connector a smal peace of rubber that was blocking the vacuum to the solenoid. The egr was never working at all. Because the valve didn't get vacuum i think somehow the engine management see this and try to adjust it.I had today another mechanic at the phone and he experienced the same fault some years ago.I tell to you check your vavuum line from the T connector to the black valve and you will find your problem.

So when you unplug the MAF sensor the surge idling stops? Does it through up any dash lights or can this be just left unplugged?

@@michaelpotter5455 unplugging the MAF sensor didn’t raise any error codes but I haven’t tried driving with it unplugged. I assume that it will just run in some limp mode 🤷‍♂️ Same thing if I unplugged the EGR control valve, the surging disappears but in this case it triggers a yellow check engine error. Tried replacing the control valve unit but it didn’t make a difference

@@TheHyttinge To All of you i gave already the solution you guy's just don't listen! by unpluging the maf or egr it goes in limp mode ofcourse it run's stable then check the goddamn T piece at the vacuum line there is the problem and since last time i posted this a college of me had the same problem.

I have the same issue, only when the engine warms up and cold down again but not cold cold

To fix the problem I had my van remapped and had the EGR valve electronically removed. Not had a problem since and my MPG is also far better, £200 it cost me

Replace egr void hose

The plastic scuttle has a joint in the middle which cascades water onto the engine. Fiat quality design I'm afraid. 😩

I’ve had loads of people all telling different things but a lot of people mentioned EGR valve and it could be blocked so last night I was in the middle of removing it and notice a rubber tube coming from the valve had disconnected from somewhere else so I’ve reattached it and I’ll give it a run out today and see if that’s cured it

@@michaelpotter5455 cool. Let me know how you get on. I've got exactly the same issue. Although sometimes it idles fine. I was thinking EGR too although some also mentioned fuel pressure regulator as being a common thing to fail and produce similar symptoms. Keep me posted with how you get on. Presumably like me you don't have the engine management light on? Was going to get a diagnostic done on mine

@@010ashley1 has been running fine since a notice a small rubber hose had came off that was going to the EGR valve and I reattached it but it’s started again 2 days ago. So back to the drawing board. What have you done to try and fix the issue? I’m thinking of blanking the EGR valve off and getting it mapped so it’s electronically removed to stop any fault codes. Other than that I’ll have to try, throttle body and air flow sensor
