@Jun Escalona I think he's doing it this way: he has a normal guitar bus with the tracks he want to record (in this case the DI + the amp one) which is routed to the master bus as usual, but those tracks are recording only and their monitoring is muted, so he's not hearing anything from that. To hear what he's playing he created a track which is routed to another master (which you need to create as well), or it simply bypass the normal master bus going directly to the output, and in the case of another master the benefit is that this new monitoring master doesn't have anything on it, allowing the zero latency monitoring.

Don't know if this has been mentioned in the comments, but Equalizer APO is a free program that can do what he's talking about with sonarworks (though you have to set up most things manually and it's not nearly as robust). There's a github page that has profiles on basically any pair of headphones you can think of. The catch is that it can be kinda hard to get your interface working with it properly if you use ASIO, but with WASAPI it works perfectly. It has a bit of a learning curve, but it beats spending $100 lol

anybody know if he has all those synths plugged in with midi cables, usb's or instrument jacks? i'm good at recording but new to using midi. i've only every plugged in things using instrument cables to my interface, or usb's directly to my computer. i know he said he was routing through his axe fx (so i guess he's using that as an auxiliary interface) but he didn't say what kind of connection. I'm also unfamiliar with axe fx. i'm assuming he has some kind of axe fx hardware unit that has inputs. but i wouldn't know what kind of inputs he's using.

8:10 anyone know a good way to do this in Logic Pro X? Would be nice to never worry about bouncing with the headphone frequency response correction EQ plugin on
@slunnes
@slunnes 4 жыл бұрын
There is a simple way to do this, it is quite easy to integrate into any existing template: Select every track which has "Stereo Output" assigned as its output, and send it to a bus (any bus that you certainly haven't used before, for example Bus 100). I call this one "Mixbus" but you can call it anything you like. Normally Logic will automatically create the corresponding Aux Track in the mixer. (ctrl+t brings it to the arrange window as well) This is going to be your new "Stereo Output" track, on which you are doing all your mixbus compression,eq,limiting and all the fun stuff. This Track has "Stereo Output" assigned as an output. From this Track, you can now create as many post-fader sends at 0dB to outputs of your choice. If Logic sees the Headphone Output as a separate stereo pair of outputs, it's easy. You are going to find a second output channel, which you can call "Phones". This channel is, where you put your correction plugin. So you end up with one Stereo Out which is unaffected and one corrected Headphone Out. Option B is to send a copy of your Mixbus into an unused pair of outputs, for example the spdif's or 3 /4, which aren't connected to anything. In this case you call your second output channel "print" or "bounce" and you leave that one unaffected, while putting your plugin on the Stereo Out . The only downside of this case is, that you can't use the shortcut to bounce anymore, since it defaults to the Stereo Out. Instead, you have to click the "Bnc" Button next to the corresponding fader. There are many more ways to get creative with this, for example adding a layer on top, and sending your mixbus, together with a reference channel or two, into Bus 101, which you call "Main Bus". This allows you, using(alt+solo) to quickly check your mix, against a reference. Your send is then being sent from the Main Bus, which then acts as your "output distribution channel".Obviously, this doesn't add any latency at all. You just have to remember to put the Mixbus as the output of your audio and instrument tracks or group busses, but you quickly get used to it. Have a great day! :)
@darwindeeez
@darwindeeez 4 жыл бұрын
@@slunnes thank you for taking the time! i don't seem to have another output besides 'stereo out' ;/ so i guess muting the plugin is still the simplest and best option for me for now
@slunnes
@slunnes 4 жыл бұрын
@@darwindeeez You're very welcome! You could try adding a piece of software called "loopback" (was called soundflower in the past) inbetween your daw and your interface. It can simulate multiple outputs to your daw. Might be worth googling. And nonetheless, the use of a mix bus is good practice in mixing, it allows you to easily create multiple versions of your mix to compare it. Cheers
@darwindeeez
@darwindeeez 4 жыл бұрын
@@slunnes yes i use audio hijack pro for that which would certainly be a hands-free way of handling the issue and i'd never accidentally bounce through the EQ. but that program seems to use a lot of CPU. and i do use the mix bus setup you're describing with the fake master bus as well, it is really nice, i agree!

@williamdistasio9358 4 жыл бұрын
@@smoreshaunted huh, yeah that's what I do too. I've not used my Lapou sims in a long time, because I'm soo into the emissary. But yeah, my session chain is usually something like this; TSE 808 OR TS 999 then my noise gate,( Weirdly enough for some reason my Noise Gate works better in that spot in the chain rather than in front of everything. It seems like I don't lose the tail end of my sustain as quickly) then the Emissary, Nad IR, (mostly Kalthallen IR's), Anvil 5 amp ( I have this here in the chain as a boost, I use the clean channel but mess with the gain,bass, mid and treble. I'd suggest trying something similar, it's pretty cool for darkening a tone and making it super edgy and aggressive) then usually like TAL reverb on the end...but occasionally I'll put some delay, depending on what I'm trying to achieve. If it's a heavy chugging or technical "riffy" thing then I just use a touch of reverb and double track. So I use mostly free plug-ins man, as you can see from what I just explained to you. The only thing I haven't found yet that I really truly like is a good compression. What do you use for compression?
@smoreshaunted
@smoreshaunted 4 жыл бұрын
@@williamdistasio9358 I've been back and forth between LePou and the emissary for a few days I actually like the Mesa voiced amp quite a bit (the Lecto) sounds good with a real boost pedal and I've been using celestion 2x12 v30 IRs(md421) as well as Glenn fricker's free IR that he gave out a few weeks ago. Sometimes after recording I use a multi-band compression plugin(FL studio stock plugins) on guitars but usually no compression. Now if you're talkin compressor pedals, sometimes I use a Seymour Duncan vise grip compressor before the instrument input/DI same with my boost pedals
