When I was in jr high, something went wrong with our antenna wire so we got no more TV channels. We could only watch VHS tapes. My dad refused to fix it and it very much changed our lives. We ate dinner around the table together every night, we played basketball at the barn, we rode horses until dark we played instruments and sang as a family. After dark, we sat in the living room and visited for a couple of hours as a family. At first my friends felt sorry for me but after a while, they all admitted that they wished they could sit and just visit with their dad and spend time with their mom and that they got a long with their siblings. It was a true blessing…

The office looks awesome! I'm personally thankful for the staining "mishap"- I tend to try to make all wood tones match perfectly and it's so nice to see a visual reminder that mixed tones and contrast is beautiful AND adds a lot to the space!

Beautiful office! We started keeping a digital Sabbath back in January, from Saturday 4.30pm-Sunday 4.30pm, after reading 'Ruthless elimination of hurry'. We now all sleep a lot longer on that night each week because we know that there's not going to be screens in the morning, we have an excellent rest. Best decision for our family.

When I “mix” I don’t mix the stains together. I do the lighter stain first, let it dry, then do a second coat in the darker stain. It’s easier to control how dark it gets that way because the first coat partially seals it so it doesn’t absorb as much of the dark stain. You can control how fast you wipe off or leave on too. I’ve used that method to match existing house stain and used as many as 3 or 4 different colors without mixing anything in the containers.

I think the dark is beautiful! Honestly when the video first started, before I knew you'd be talking about it, I noticed the darker color and thought "oh I like that, I should try that!" It looks great!

A dimmer would make it not have to be so bright when you are just working in the office, but the lighting looks perfect for the video! I love you two so much. We’ve never met, but it feels like you’re friends. The countertop looks good, and so does the decorating (way better than what I could do).

It looks nice, Diane. I think it is weird how some people are so finicky. I am 68, so I have seen so many color, material and decorating trends in my lifetime. No matter what you do, in 10 or 20 years it will be dated. I like my ceiling fans, because sometimes one room is stuffy but the thermostat doesn't need adjusting.

I love the darker stain, and everything looks really nice. Yes, Diana, a very pregnant woman on a ladder is a “hmmmm” moment for me but something I totally would have done myself! 😀. Dawn helping you is always entertaining. 😉 You two are so dang cute when you film together!

I like the dark better honestly. It looks so clean and modern. I think the shelves would look great dyed to match!

I do love the darker stain against that beautiful wall color. I, myself, would be tempted to also stain the shelves, except I know what a pain they were to hang in the first place, so that might deter me😂

I think the darker stain looks great. I wouldn't expect the floating shelves to match the cabinet top - it would be too much. Plus the darker cabinet board is grounding the background. THank you for mentioning you stopped short of finishing the project. I just realized I do that exact same thing. There's just something So hard about that final step.

We just had 4 days away at a cottage with our kids and grandkids with no cell or internet service available. It was wonderful! Lots of board games, reading, biking, hiking, swimming, s’mores, saunas, hanging out, eating, Amazing family time.

I live in Arizona and will never get rid of our ceiling fans and if I could I would have them in our bathrooms. LOL

I agree it looks great. You did well. I find myself telling my mind, Just because I can do it doesn’t mean it has to be done by me. This is my way of being ok with spending money on someone else doing the work, most times I do this I realize money spent was totally worth it.

I prefer the dark wood to the lighter wood. You go. My mom rode a Tobacco setter, put up corn, and reupholstered a chair when she was ready to deliver. I was painting a huge bonus room and throwing a big birthday party the day before I delivered my daughter. I have 4-H ribbons as well. It always amazes me how parallel my life has been to yours and Dawns.

Just love you ladies, i think the darker stain brings out the beautiful picture more. My family struggled when i was young- we always say the saying a jack of all trades but a master of none!!! I am always. I can do that... thats crazy money!! The lighting is perfect. With my first son I was mowing the lawn the day before i have birth!!

Gotta love a twin sister to tell you how it is 😂 I think it looks nice and not dollar tree ish lol! My husband does the same thing with the piles on the desk. Drives me nuts. Lol but he is getting better at throwing away junk mail. Dawn makes a good point to start on the bottom. I never thought of that.

Looks great! My favorite stain that turns out about the same as what you stained is white vinegar and steel wool. Put it in a jar and let it sit for 24 hours and the steel wool dissolves. When you use it the only smell there is is vinegar and it dissipates quickly.

I like the contrast of the different wood colors and it also goes well with the contrast of the painting, darker colors at the bottom and lighter colors at the top.

Haha Diana I am like you with the stain. I just dive in and see what happens. The lower board matches Dawns hair colour and upper shelves and lighter like yours. The 2 colours look beautiful together. I have a couple projects at 70% I feel like I need to go finish now

My boys (now 18 and 21) used to go from our house in Ohio to my brother and SIL’s house in Vermont for a week every summer when they were younger. Bro and SIL had a policy of “Low Tech Tuesdays” in their house, and my boys would always grumble about it. But secretly they loved playing board and card games on Tuesdays with their aunt and uncle, and would start planning earlier in the week what games they would play on Tuesday. Even now, we still talk about Low Tech Tuesdays. Maybe I’ll try to institute it for myself…
