It would make the pageant a lot more interesting. After all, does the woman who represents the best the U.S. have to offer really need to be an accomplished entertainer? Why shouldn't she be someone who can speak intelligently and eloquently?
@philxdev
@philxdev 6 жыл бұрын
yeah well isn´t that a discrimination of dumb people? seriously.. they try to pull a liberal bs on all and forget that there are people who simply cannot speak intelligetly and eloquently but are still good people.. this whole pageant stuff is a load of crap and the whole process is open for manipulation.. they told "save the whales and world peace" ever since they introduced the speach as part of the pageant and rehearsing the crap out of this one to tell people exactly what they want to hear and what sounds the best isn´t quite the "accomplishment" they try to portray with this changed format... now they just focus less on skin and more on "lies and fairy tales" ... if this was all so non discriminating.. where are the ugly women who really made a difference in peoples lifes and helpf many many people with their good deeds or their business achievments? Not saying beautiful women can´t and won´t , in fact every women has the potential..

+Thomas Erlandsen you grew up with some good nurses. But you need to ask them if they ever came across nurses who were just there for the money and could care less about the patient. Or better yet go into a nursing home and ask some of the patients which nurses they like and why. I have run across plenty of both types of nurses. Lucky for my patients I know them as who they are and not as what they have.

+feliciannurse I have always held nurses on a tall pedastal, but one late night in a hospital two years ago, sealed it. I was in to my second day there following open heart surgery. I had no family to come, and only two visitors in the 7 days I was admitted. My head nurse, who was finishing her shift, stopped in my room to check on me, and to tell me she was leaving. I'm pretty much the "I'll do it myself" type, but this night I just wanted company. I asked her if she would set for just a minute, until I dozed off. The next morning, nurses told me that she stayed for over an hour. You could not have chosen a more honorable profession. Thank you.

+stiimuli Why do people feel the need to make comments like you did? "I hope a cure is developed for your diagnoses" is saying he hopes medical science and caring human beings are there for him. I'm not even religious but still I find comments like yours to be just as annoying as a bible beater. You see the word God and just can't resist getting on a soap box. How helpful is your comment?

@stiimuli 8 жыл бұрын
IrishIrish79 You don't find it odd for someone to, in the same comment, hope for a medical cure for a disease and then invoke a god that apparently can't be bothered to do anything about any disease? Marty may as well have said "may the force be with you". I totally agree with most of Marty's comment. I simply found the last bit to be silly, useless and contradictory. BTW, how helpful was *your* comment if you think mine was not? Is it ok for you to critique someone's comment but not ok for me to do it? =)

This is very true, and really defines what it's like to be a nurse. As a nurse I feel this connection with a lot of people. I'm not a hospital nurse, but I am a rehabilitation and long term care nurse. My difference isn't always about helping my patients get back to a normal life - I am their normal life. It's not about knowing just their health issues and how to treat them, but also about knowing how they like their coffee. It's about knowing their favorite candy, and sneaking them a piece and lending an ear or kind word when they need a little encouragement. It's about knowing their life story, and having a connection with them and their family. It's about being there to listen to the patient that they said would never speak. It's about standing with them through the good and the bad. It's about being there for them and their family when it's time to let go, knowing that you too will need to let go. Nursing isn't simply about healthcare, it's about making a difference, big or small. If I can put a smile on the face of my patient or make them laugh, everything else pales in comparison.

I have been that Nurse for 37 years.... I have had those patients just like Joe.. But maybe not just her speech , which I found very caring she was setting a dialogue for Alzheimer's and setting a platform that maybe she would have supported if she had won... All of the others set platforms for opera or violins play.... Maybe "The View" should have touched on the many of millions of people some in their field ( Glenn Campbell) who are suffering as well as the family members watching their loved one slip away... To me, you and I are not "Just A Nurse" we are the hands, heart, brains and for some the only family members these people have.. And I am very proud to be a NURSE.. Thank you Nurse Kelley Johnson..You can be my nurse anytime and I would be honored

As a nurse, sometimes it does get hard...especially when the patient don't understand what you are doing and that it's not your fault you can't be there after 1 second he called or make him do all the things he want. Some are disrespectful, and after all the sacrifices, I do ask myself "did I choose wrong?" , but then THAT patient arrives. They recognize your worth and how much you care. Thank you, patient. Wow. This young lady is going places in her life. She has spotted something. I have spent some time dealing with nurses. Every nurse I have dealt with in the hospital. I love them. It is hard to say other than those three words.

Wow! She showed that talent doesn’t have to be an overly entertaining performance… It can also be making a big difference in the lives of people and touching them. There is nothing wrong with normal talents but, I think it’s wonderful that she showed how much of a talent it can be to help others! What an incredible role model!!

it takes talent to be a great nurse. it truly bothers me that many reacted negatively to her touching monologue.

we need more people like her. It's people like Kelly that reassure me that there are good people on earth. As +kittennsweetiee said, beauty contests should also be based on whether the contestants have a good heart or not. Miss Colorado, you have won many people's hearts with your extraordinary actions and keep doing what you are doing!

Miss America 2024 was just crowned: also from Colorado, also a monologue! ❤️👑 Nurse Kelley will always be my example when people say monologue/spoken word is not a talent.

When she walks into the hospital the patients will start feeling better instantly. But yes Her job as nurse is 24/7 and not easy. The doctor goes away after his daily round but the nurse has to stay till someone comes to relieve her Night shifts are particularly difficult. Frontline workers We salute you. God Bless you.

I don't understand how The View could mock this. Michelle Collins was the one who said "She came out in a nurse's uniform and basically read her emails out loud". I didn't think it sounded anything like that. Miss Colorado could have possibly used a little more enthusiasm in her monolouge however she didn't deserve to be mocked. I thought it was a beautiful and inspiring story of how she became a nurse.

this was by far...better than what the others call entertainment...Miss Colorado actually expressed feelings and thoughts without copying popular songs or showing off skills...She came right down to a need that we all will share one day...LOVE...and it showed from her presentation...The women on the 'View" cant relate to working class people....and therefore have to try & demean them or make fun.... I hope the old gal on the View has to publicly apologize for the uncaring remark she made concerning the contestant...this only shows her jealousy and contempt for the contestants...Shame on her.....!

23 thumbs down and several negative posts - how disappointing! Public speaking and engaging with an audience is not easy and so quite rightly this was appropriate for the talent section. She did nurses and patients proud with this monologue.
