Listen,,,,Miss Congeniality isn't about Grace getting a makeover and ~learning to love herself~ it's about Grace learning to overcome internalized misogyny and realizing that the "airhead beauty queens" are real, important, and brilliant people and that their interest in fashion and makeup doesn't make them idiots. Grace loved herself the entire movie, with or without the make over; the makeover helped her learn to respect other women.

As a former Miss Wisconsin State Finalist, I can confirm that pageants are like this. Prepare for all t he snide comments and sassy comebacks but also the sisterly love when you genuinely need it. TBH if it wasn't for this movie I probably never would have become a pageant girl, but I'm so glad I did.

@@lilavril3 I can't say that the pageant world is perfect, I think TLC did a good job shattering that 😅. But it's definitely comforting to know that I made some really wonderful friendships, and that being around so many other wonderful women only helped me become a better woman myself.

13:39 My mum is a feminist and an intellectual, and even though she doesn't go for beauty pageants - never entered one, never watched one etc - she wouldn't call any woman who did join a worthless airhead. Those who do aren't real feminists, they're objectifying women same as the men they criticise do.
@NoudlePipW
@NoudlePipW 3 жыл бұрын
*ABSOLUTELY*. TRUE feminists believe in every woman's CHOICE to do what they want with their bodies. If you want to be a lingerie model, sex worker, farmer, or CEO.
@Blueeyesinthesky
@Blueeyesinthesky 3 жыл бұрын
@@NoudlePipW id say that’s up for discussion. Yes a woman can absolutely do what she wants with her body. However, it doesn’t mean you have to see it the same way as everyone else. If a woman chooses to be a stripper I can still be a feminist and have the opinion that that choice of occupation is a form of self objectification and whatever other opinion there may be.
@NoudlePipW
@NoudlePipW 3 жыл бұрын
@@Blueeyesinthesky It absolutely can be tricky there. Well, for me I believe it's fine if she choses it for herself, however some women are forced into sex work and stripping. If a woman chooses it though I believe it's her body and her choice. If she enjoys it and personally feels empowered then good for her tbh. I get what you mean though

Yes. Pageants are like this. Hairspray keeps your suit bottom from riding up, hemorrhoid cream shrinks tissues and gets rid of under-eye bags, vaseline on the teeth keeps your lips from sticking to your teeth. There are a number of beauty tips and tricks and this movie only touches on a few of them.

Fun fact: I was Ms Congeniality at the real Miss United States pageant (I was Ms Michigan) in 2012. You cultivate life long, AUTHENTIC friendships with the other women. Yeah, you have 1 or 2 hyper competitive women that you would like to take a "pass" on..... but the others, they're inspirational doctors, attorneys, authors, military women that push themselves to grow as a person.

As a tweenger, Gracie-Lou teaching the ‘Solar plexus, Instep, Nose, Groin’ self-defence method was a long lasting and important life lesson. Someone tried to assault a friend of mine and that’s what instinctively came into her head, all these years later, and she managed to fight him off and get away. I notice - in general only - guys watching her ‘talent’ find it funny that she’s beating the crap out of the guy, while girls and women focus in on the acronym and knowledge.

3:23 - No they were portraying Sandra Bullock's character as a less-than-feminine FBI agent. Hence the trashy apartment, TV dinner, and her masculine attire. Obviously this distinction leads to the main plot of her going undercover as a contestant into the feminine world of beauty pageants.

In 1986, I was 4th runner up for the Miss Washington DC title, which was great. All the snide comments and crap between some contestants was perfectly and accurately shown in the movie. 🤣😂🤣. And, YES, *Butt Glue* is a real thing. It is sprayed on the skin and then the bathing suit is adjusted over it. That stops it from riding up and showing your Southern cheeks. 😁🍑

So you've graduated to movie reactions. Great choice. I do love this movie. And yeah, they did act like rookies in the beginning. It pissed me off that they were blaming her for that cop getting shot when he wasn't standing where he was supposed to be, nor watching his side view where the bad guys literally were standing. I was like " If the bad guys are at the side of him, and the other cops got their angles covered, where and who is he pointing his weapon at? Why isn't he standing behind the bar counter pointing his gun at their backs? He would have seen them reach for a weapon first." She did the right thing. Cops shouldn't just stand around waiting for the guy to choke over. They should have had the two guys, behind him, on the ground with their hands behind their heads, with weapons dropped to the ground and kicked over. But...whatever. Listen here Cali, I didn't care for the shade you threw at New Yorkers. We keep it 100%. We'll leave the fake boobs and smiles to the West coast. J/k😋 Just poking fun at you. I didn't appreciate that, once again, they always have to make the sistas the lesbian. Because, it's a weak stereotype that Hollywood has been trying to convey about us, like we want to be men and we're all butch. ...Just another way to sublimely get men to hate us and find us unattractive. But I digress. That's a subject for a deep convo video. Reverse back to having some light hearted fun. This movie is definitely one of Sandra's crowning achievements (no pun intended) because she put her name on this as producer. Her production company released some gems and gained momentum after this....Imo. Great reaction. Thanks

I have to admit, I never knew an agent that wasn't OCD. Sloppy doesn't fit the profile, but it's fun and does show some subluminal resistance to ANYthing that the character considers a sign of weakness.

Can you review either I Still Believe or A Walk to Remember? Both are based on true stories. You actually reviewed the Jeremy Camp's song I Still Believe not to long ago so I figured you could watch the movie too.

Thanks for the comment Robbie Jay. If you enjoyed A Walk to Remember you should check out I Still Believe. Similar storyline with just as much heart and faith.

Billy you are wild. I love your reaction channel but this is my favorite channel because you just say what you feel and it cracks me the hell up. "I'm tryna visit hell one time."

Unrelated but when you mixed up beauty and booty it made me think of a sister sister episode where they snuck backstage to see Cold Dog and he came up with the lyrics “twin booty is thang of beauty “😂🤦🏾‍♀️

Thanks for this reaction. I do like the messages of this film, I actually like the sequel better - Miss Congeniality: Armed & Fabulous #bingers. Less sexual harassment played for laughs in that one. And awesome female friendships.

If you can find it, can you do a commentary on The People under the stairs? Also, Aquamarine and Bratz (the live action movie from the 2000s).
