This was a fascinating historical tribute to Miss Universe. Kind of sad they got rid of the cape and scepter. I love when the former Miss Universe returns in native garb. The thing I love best about this is how the entire world really is represented. And it's not just a handful of countries that win over and over and over. Also glad the crowns are not as big as the universe anymore. Although the bouffant hairdos of the 60s kept them in place

I love all Indian 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳 Miss Universe. They're all amazing soeaker also beautiful. Did You Know? Lara Dutta holds multiple records in pageantry on her name, and will probably remain unbroken forever!! 1) She is the only girl to have won two notable international titles, i.e Miss Intercontinental 1997 and Miss Universe 2000. 2) She won every pageant that she participated in, Gladrags Megamodel, Miss Intercontinental, Femina Miss India, Miss Universe. 3) She received highest televised individual interview score of 9.954 in the history of #missuniverse pageant.

I found out from the news: At that moment she was studying at the university, and she had to submit her dissertation. At the same time, the organizers of the contest put her in a very strict framework and she had to give up her title. But they wrote that she got married and was pregnant, and also got fat. It was a lie. She is a brave and smart girl :) (sorry, my English is terrible)

Miss Universe Peru visited Australia in the 1950s and stayed with my grandparents in Adelaide. Needless to say, my grandfather loved it and my grandmother, not so much. 😁

That is correct. Jannele was the first BLACK winner, not "first woman of color" winner, because there were other women of color who won before her. As to whether hers was the most memorable performance OF ALL TIME - that, sir, is a matter of opinion.

Color TV might have something to do with it. The black-and-white coverages before 1972 were so fuzzy and shaky, so bad - you could hardly see the winners' faces. It does not mean the post-1972 ladies were more beautiful.

FILIPINAS- The Philippines came from the name of Spanish King Philip II (FELIPE II). Looks of Filipinas are DIFFERENT: Morena (Spanish brown Gypsy); Mestiza (White skin); Asiatica (Native Filipina); Am-Girl (The ASIAN-PACIFIC feature is strong despite having a white dad); Chinita (Almond-eyed) and Mulatto (dark or brown skin).

It maybe because, before then, Puerto Rico was considered part of the US, and therefore represented in the pageant by Miss USA. It took a while before Puerto Rico started sending their own candidate.

You get a ten in all the coronation videos of the queens of the universe, especially in the video of miss universe 1962, because most of the videos only show about 2 seconds and already, instead you showed a video of reasonable time, congratulations, I am already waiting with emotion for the 71st edition of Miss Universe 2022

I keep listening to 1967's announcement! This was Bob Barker's first pageant as host. He crowned two Miss USA's as Miss Universe: 1967 and 1980. This would be the same Top 2 outcome as in 1997.

Janelle Commissong who was the first woman of color to win, is my favorite. She's the epitome of beautiful. She came to my High School of Art &Design in 1978 and I asked out a question during Q & A. I forgot what I asked her but I still have the sketch I drew of her on stage in the assembly hall.

What about Miss Peru Gladys Gender of 1957? Miss Japan Akiko Kojima from 1959???? Miss Peru is Native American. And Native American is also a woman of color. Miss Japan is Asian which is also a woman of color. The world isn't just black and white.
