Berowra Waters - Boats on the Bottom ... the search for the missing New South Wales couple .
In 1978 Michelle Pope and Stephen Lapthorne went to a formal dance together and then after having "a feed" with Stephens parents they jumped in Stephens 1977 Bedford CF Lime Green Van and were never seen again. License Plate SL710. NSW
Come with us as we try to uncover new clues in their disappearance and provide answers of where they are not and hopefully for their family, where they are.
Down Under Dan and Bill McIntosh have been tracking down their possible routes and different locations of potential travel itinerary to get from West Pymble to Berrowa Heights where Michelle lived (address still unknown). On the night they went missing Michelle was supposed to let the cat out and Stephen was preparing to leave on a skiing trip the next morning with his mates. She never arrived and he never met up with his mates.
Rumors of Ivan Robert Milat, the Backpacker Killer, locally being in the area at the time and speculation and rumors hindered the case for years. Our hope is that we can bring much needed answers to the family, friends, community, and local officials so that both their communities can heal.

Some info that may assist. Michelle Pope lived at Gwandalan Cres. Low tide had been at 8.19pm meaning the tide was still relatively low at the time. The weather had been sunny that day but the mornings and nights were cold. Wind on exposed water was 10-15 knots. There was a cable ferry in place as at 1978. Because Berowra Waters is BEYOND Michelle's home at Berowra Heights I am inclined to believe they went to some other lovers lane. Bobbin Head seems likely.

There was a report of an old van fitting the description in the Marramarra National Park up off one of the fire trails via Bloodwood rd fiddletown seen by a horse rider back in 1989/1990 - I do wonder if they may have tried to drive though the bush there somewhere that night.

I know a van very similar was found in the bush but I understand that the vin was one number out, strange yes

I don't believe that they ever worked out exactly where in the Marramarra it was that the horserider saw the van as the rider could not remember exactly where it was so as far as we know, that particular van in that park was never actually sighted by the police or removed. There was another van found in some other bush area in southern sydney area near the milat dumping ground but it was apparently not the van@@downunderdandiving3357
