8. minus 2 points for the obvious complete separation of Tom Cruise as he slides away into thin air making it impossible for him to somehow levitate back to the rock and cling to the edge. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipmlZJyfnranqZ8.html

Showing that Ethan Hunt is a kind of man that exercises with death defying tasks even on his day offs was a master cinema trick to develop his character. Just because of this very scene I always saw him in the sequels as a man fearlessly giving his all in every single task he does, and it really sauced up those movies, specially MI3 and Rogue Nation.

For those wondering if Tom Cruise really did this.... In a 2000 interview with UKC, Mission: Impossible 2 cameraman and experienced climber Earl Wiggins broke down the sequence. He explained that Cruise trained for Mission: Impossible 2's rock climbing scene with stunt double Ron Kauk, who would also escort him into position for each shot. The climbing was filmed over five days, while winches were also used to get the star in and out of position for the scene. For the moment where Hunt - who has "died" in several Mission movies - slips down and holds on to the overhang, Wiggins revealed Cruise's double Keith Campbell did that particular stunt.

This scene definitely inspired some people to take up rock climbing, and some of them may have made careers in that industry, whether it be a supervisor/belay guy at a indoor rock wall, a employee at a outdoors/mountaineering store, or really athletic rock climbers out there pushing the limits.

what top 3 of all time? You need to watch more, Tom Cruise alone has 7 other movies that are classic in fact all except the two with Nicole kidman. He was distracted no offence to NK.

He did absolutely freak out over China virus mask non-compliance during the filming of M:I:7, though, and flew off the handle towards his crew, which I didn't like at all, when he saw a couple of crewmembers weren't wearing masks or had them pulled down. (I'm anti-mask, myself, and quit a good paying job over it.) He should've treated them like fellow human beings, and not threatened everyone with firing and swearing at them all. Without a film crew, Mr. Cruise wouldn't be able to complete a single movie. He said he was saving the industry in Hollywood during the China virus and keeping people employed, but totally freaked out when some people weren't wearing a face diaper on set and threatened (with a lot of awful language) to fire anyone caught not complying again. I'd have quit over that outburst and treating the crew like they were disposable (and I think some people did, if I remember correctly).

@@Arnold_Rimmer hi, so can I ask in your honest opinion do you think it was fear and pressure from the government's demand and control over everybody at the time , fear if they were caught not wearing masks production would have been shut down and cost everyone their jobs . Or is his personality that angry all the time? I don't believe anyone has the right to speak down to anyone no matter how high up your status is in life.. Don't look down on another human being unless it's to hold out your hand to help them up🙏

The music in this scene is pretty much similar to intro scene in Rainman where the car gets lowered. Both given by Hans Zimmer, so understandable.

This was a great era. The 90s had finally ended and people were waiting for where the trend would go. I had exactly the same hair and similar outfits as Cruise here, and man did it go down well with the chicks. The film's visuals, music, and Asian dramatics also felt cool and new. I must have seen it three times in the theatres.
