This is a Missoula Montana travel guide from 2021. In this travel guide we explore Montana's second largest city behind only Billings. We take a look at downtown Missoula then head over towards the river where we check out the local hangout known as the "Wave". We tell you about some of the things to do in Missoula as well as discuss that fact that Missoula is a college town with an emerging technology and medical scene.

Lived right outside of Missoula for many years, maybe Missoula is welcoming newcomers but down the road not so much. You did not mention the terrible hard cold snow filled winters. Over the years I have seen lots of people move here but they move out after a couple years. Wages are low, winters are cold and it is expensive. Our locals are finding they can no longer afford to live in their homes because of high property taxes and rent is high. So that has a lot to do with how the locals feel about the new comers. Just thought I would share some of local feelings not all of us feel that way but oh Jeff now so so many do.

I was displaced from portland last year due to southern californians, I found a place way up in the woods at a more than affordable price. Within one year the owners of the property got the greed disease and because “their friends told them they could get more money” and “they saw houses selling in town for over .5mil” I now have a more than 50% rent increase. I have a great job and run my own business part time, I’m going to have to run from here soon too unfortunately…..

@@denefbla I don’t have any answers. It’s still possible to eek out a living here, def more than portland, but this won’t last much longer. If you can work remotely, you’re going to have to live in one of those towns you drive by on a backcountry highway where you blink and you’ve passed through. Those two or three building towns where it looks like meth came in and ravaged it in a matter of days, those types of places are our only option at this point. Be ready to make 2hour trips to get stocked up on food and fuel, if you’re ever hurt you won’t be able to get help, this is the preapocalyptic world we live in.

I'm American living in Alberta Canada. Let me tell you, I'm looking to relocate. Why? I've NEVER seen a more unhappy people than here and mainly because most come from all over the world. Different cultures. There's not much eye contact and NO smiles. Smiles are rare. I've been here just over 5 years now and I'm feeling the strong oppression not to mention most Canadians do NOT like Americans. Welcome to Canada. It is beautiful up here... Oh my!! The town of Cochrane is my happy place however!! I'm so sad from the culture and I've been harrassed a few times for just being American. Either they love you or hate you. So, the other people coming in to Montana from other States, I can almost tell you that their attitude is probably by far better than most Canadians. Now I've gotten to experience it up here... I now know that Canada and Australia are close knit together and that most Australians don't like us either. Nice! So, most will be nice to your face but watch their eyes... Tells alot!! I've got alot of stories and when I've shared with my family and friends back in the US... Their mouths drop open. I've never cried so hard in my life and I wished it was different but it's not. So, I'm looking to relocate.... USA .... I'm in love with you my home land. ❤️🇺🇸

Alberta is kind of its own thing. Kind of the Wyoming of Canada, even if your experience is coming from Montana. I'm sure you don't need another American to tell you that life is different if you were living in BC or Ontario.

@@javyjavyjavyjavy I've heard that... But most Canadians in general do not like Americans. I don't think most Americans do not like Canadians. Although, I now know how the Mexicans feel. Honestly, here, I think most the atmosphere is due to the different cultures coming in. I hear the East coast people are a little bit different in Canada but I met one lady and I thought she was really sweet. I hear Quebec is French and most French people do not even like the other Canadians and in fact I hear at least the buzzword is that they don't like anybody coming into Quebec that's not a French Canadian. Well my parents sold their home in Duvall Washington to a Quebec couple that was having a baby and they were actually offered a lot more money from a single guy who really wanted it but my parents took under their asking price for a family to come into the neighborhood so they said yes to the Quebec family. I don't know they were really nice to us. but I've heard a lot of different people even different people I've met strangers going back to the states that have traveled through or vacation through Canada and I haven't met anybody that was happy with BC either and it's interesting cuz I've never had a issue with anyone from BC I think that they're really friendly. But I guess even people from BC can't stand the US people. Would you happen to be a dual citizen by any chance?

@@aether4554 No. I think he means, people from Montana who lived there before trash Californians from San Fransisco migrated across the country to every nice place they could find to avoid fixing their communist hellhole of a state. That they destroyed and refuse to fix or acknowledge. And then pseudo their way out of constructive self analysis by embuing themselves with a Native American likeness. As if there is any similarity, whatsoever. Natives respect the land. Californians trash it. Which is why every National Park in the state now requires permitting, and people can't even go visit yellow poppy fields. Then they cry "THATS NOT ALL OF US". Yes. Yes it is. These people destroyed Bend Oregon too. And Colorado. And Texas. And Arizona. And basically everything they touch. Because they're an incognizant disease of state programmed social media junkies and tech addicts who have a disconnect with themselves and everything around them.

I lived in Msla in the early and mid '70s. I was happy to call it my home, made many friends during my brief college days. Then I left with a young girlfriend, whom I married and much later divorced. The Puget Sound area of Seattle and into the west slope of the Cascades can do that to couples. Anyway, Msla has changed from the old days. Not sure I'd want to live there again, even if I could afford it. Have no problem with it being a liberal bastion of the western part of the state. Camp along one of our rivers in town. Some people will come along and move you to a free motel. Do some paper work and you will get free medical and free dental. Free meals. City will not arrest you because jail is a revolving door. Some of our new residents think jail is a luxury motel in the winter. Putting you in an apartment looks better than having you in jail and creates a housing shortage. City is creating a homeless problem in order to make a solution. What is Mayor Engen's solution? The largest drug treatment center in USA. The largest mental health treatment center in USA. City is buying property and zoning for such a thing on West Broadway. Called a Green economy. I have lived in Missoula since 1960. You want all the things to do, move to Portland Oregon. There is much more variety of activities. Drug related crime here is getting out of control and more police is not working. Higher taxes with no results. People are people no matter how many trees you have. The city's actions encourage all the unfortunates of other towns to come here. Professional tax leeches.
