Even if the voicemail was deleted on the answering machine, the police should still have access to the phone logs. It's strange that there is no mention of phone logs of the prank caller and tracing it back to someone and the police questioning them. The phone companies in 1992 definitely had call logs with numbers, times, and durations. I remember seeing my parents' phone bills when I was a child.

Also, I know it’s unrelated to this comment BUT as a 90s kid, Stacy’s mum not going straight into panic mode wasn’t weird for the time 🤔 Since cell phones weren’t common, you had to use landlines and if you were out with friends (aka not at someone’s house or a pay phone) you just didn’t call 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ Kids and teenagers did this all the time. If you didn’t hear from them you’d automatically assume they aren’t near a phone and they’re just hanging out. You would wait til they got home and lecture them about calling (knowing it’s going in one ear and out the other lol) - that’s exactly what my mum did with me! 😆 my “excuse” was that I didn’t have any change to use the pay phone when I was out riding my bike. Then I’d get “WELL JUST DO IT COLLECT AND I’LL ANSWER!! 😠” 😂😭 the truth was it just wasn’t “cool” to check in with your mum every hour hahaha

And I also think the way her sister articulated this tells us also that she wasn’t happy about her sister getting divorced. So she was sort of shaming her sister for getting a divorce and being a single mom.

@dorannenods 2 жыл бұрын
@@franbonomolo9183 yes exactly! I think it makes even more sense if this sister is an older sister of Sherrill but I’m not sure that’s the case. Either way it’s definitely a way of saying that someone is an all or nothing type of person. And in this case I think it’s showing some sort of rivalry between sisters. Maybe the sister was unhappy in her own marriage as well but chose to stay married out of pride and “loyalty” and she was secretly jealous of Sherrill who took charge and was more brave in a way.

I live near Springfield and this case haunts me; around the same time I was a victim of “wrong place, wrong time” when I was a kid. Resulted in the death of a family member. Now I can’t hear loud noises or doorbells or knocks without immediately running for cover. PTSD is a helluva thing. Luckily those responsible (in my case) are rotting in prison. I pray for justice for these ladies.

I will say (in my opinion anyway), your question about tearing up the parking garage and why the Police won't push it. Absolutely, as a Police Officer you want to solve these cases, but sometimes we hit a roadblock called Politics. If the picture you showed is the actual parking garage, it looks rather big, expensive and I'm going to guess if the Police pushed the idea of tearing the garage up, I'm almost certain they were met with a big NO from the Mayor, City Council, the CEO of the business and any other rich person who may have been involved. My two cents about that anyway.....

But they have the xray machine don't they that can see thru or maybe even drills some holes to see if a cadaver dog could smell anything. That wouldn't be a complete uproot of the garage.

Most people I know would just be “oh glass! Better clean that up before something happens” or “she won’t want her (perfectly clean house) seen this way. I better tidy.” Also I was waiting to see how many of the theories she she hit on!! I think she only didn’t cover one and it’s always been considered a long shot. You are so right about people not being so worried about someone’s whereabouts before mobile phones. The bad boy that said he had an alibi for the night they went missing, and his girlfriend backed him up. She later recanted… So there goes his alibi. Also I think your theory about Susie’s mom having plans for the night at her house… That’s the empty space in the morning where Susie usually parked her car. I’d certainly look more into the mom’s recent past and see what her dating history is, etc..

When I was in University, I was getting my degree in Criminology and one of my favourite classes was Psychological Explanations for Criminal and Deviant Behaviour. I had to write one of my final case studies on Jeffrey Dahmer and I remember researching and writing for months about him, I began to dream about him because he had like infiltrated my brain. I ended up handing my case study in somewhat unfinished because I just had to get him out of my head. It is actually very stressful researching and talking about this kind of material. A lot of police departments don’t have the funding for cold cases. That’s how it is in my state and I’m aware of it being the same situation in other places too. A lot of times it’s retired police officers/detectives that take on these cases and don’t receive pay or they depend on donations.

The cleaning is like a “tic” for country, midwestern, southern women of a certain age. They are unable to just sit still, especially in a awkward or emotional situation. They clean and straighten up without even being aware of it most of the time. They also compulsively try to feed people.

This is so true. My nana was on hospice last month, and Everytime I would go over to visit, there was more and more food, and weird things would get reorganized. Because of covid we couldn't all visit together, but each of the women would leave their mark (& food) as they filed thru. It was like they were saying "I love you" to my nana, even if she was asleep when they visited 🥀❤️

My mom would have cleaned her friend’s house too. 1: she cleans when she’s stressed and 2: she would be like, “strangers are coming over, she wouldn’t want them to see her house like this, let’s just straighten up a bit” Literally didn’t surprise me at all. Dumb but if it wasn’t an “obvious” crime scene they probably wouldn’t have thought twice at all.

This story is just extra sad/scary because it's everything you think should be the right thing. Like the girls were responsible in going back to their own house to sleep, calling their Mum. You always think that at least there's safety in numbers, it's not easy to make three people completely disappear. Even the fact that Stacy had broken up with and reported the boyfriend, although it would make him mad, you'd think it's the better option.
